Amid the news that two American hostages and two Israeli hostages have been released from captivity, Hollywood heavyweights are hoping for the safe return of the 220 innocent people who are still being held hostage by Hamas.

Okay, enough time has passed so we can talk about Young Rocket in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" without immediately turning into a quivering puddle of tears. For years James Gunn has been telling us to prepare for Rocket's tragic backstory, but I don't think anybody was truly prepared for just how masterfully Gunn was going to manipulate our emotions.
We all know by now that James Gunn's brother, Sean, a talented character actor who also plays Kraglin in the "Guardians" films, is the on-set Rocket Raccoon. That means he does some performance capture and is there to deliver the lines to the actors so they have someone to work off of, but up until now, Bradley Cooper has always been the voice of Rocket.
Speaking to ComicBookMovie.com, Sean Gunn revealed that with this super sad backstory finally getting told that two other performers got to voice Rocket.

Vice TV has picked up a third season of The Nacelle Company’s anthology docuseries Icons Unearthed, which will spotlight The Fast and the Furious film franchise.

On the most recent installment of the “Empire” magazine podcast, Quentin Tarantino names the Spahn Ranch sequence in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” one of “the best things that me and my team have ever accomplished” (via The Independent). The filmmaker, who scored a Best Director Oscar nomination for his work on the movie, goes as far as saying the set piece has more “terror” in it than Jonathan Demme’s famous climax to “The Silence of the Lambs,” which centered on Clarice Sterling’s night vision showdown with serial killer Buffalo Bill.
”There’s a difference between suspense and terror,” Tarantino said. “Suspense is what’s going to happen. Terror is [when] you’re afraid you know exactly what’s going to happen and you don’t want to see it. You think the worst.”

Quentin Tarantino’s earliest memory of Los Angeles was as a young boy visiting Grauman’s Chinese Theater, standing in the courtyard and looking at the handprints of John Wayne and Roy Rogers. He recollects the Mold-a-Rama machine outside that dispensed a souvenir wax pagoda if you inserted a quarter.
The director had toyed with re-creating that memory as the opening to his Oscar-nominated “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” He went so far as to have Barbara Ling, his production designer, track down the makers of the machine, but the idea never materialized. Instead, the film opens with black-and-white newsreel footage of Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), setting the scene for their coming exploits. But Tarantino has the machine: “It sits in my garage,” he chuckles as he lounges across the table from Ling and the film’s costume designer, Arianne Phillips...

The winners for the 2020 American Cinema Editors Awards were announced Friday, January 17 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. These are the 70th annual edition of the Ace Eddie Awards, which honor the best in feature film and television editing for the 2019 calendar year. The American Cinema Editors guild, which hands out its awards on January 17, has a good track record as a preview of the Oscar winner for Best Picture (17 out of the last 29) and a great one for forecasting who will win the Film Editing Oscar (22 of the last 29). Not surprisingly, it is also fairly prescient when it comes to predicting the five Film Editing Oscar slots; all of this year’s Academy Awards nominees contend for this cutting prize.
In 1992, the Eddies went from three to five nominees (matching that of the Oscars) and in 2000 it split the award in two, with five nominees for each of drama and comedy/musical. Over the past 27 years, 120 of the 135 Oscar nominees for Film Editing had first reaped a Golden Eddie bid; that makes for an accuracy rate of 89%.

“The sun is shining on Culver City through the smog,” is how Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman began a call Monday to discuss Sony’s strong Oscar nomination showing. The studio reaped a haul of 20 noms – 10 for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, six for Little Women, a Best Supporting Actor nom for Tom Hanks in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, two for the Pedro Almodovar-directed Pain and Glory (Best International Feature and Best Actor for Antonio Banderas).

With the shortened awards timeline, ceremonies hit hard and fast. Sunday night marks the 25th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, airing on The CW beginning at 7pm Est/7pm Pst. Taye Diggs returns as host the proceedings, which take place in the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association. For the first time, three foreign-language films are among the Eddie Awards nominees — The Farewell, I Lost My Body and Parasite — despite there not being a specific category for films predominantly in a foreign language.
Last year’s big winner on the feature side was Bohemian Rhapsody, which went on to score the Oscar for John Ottman.

Quentin Tarantino’s bittersweet intersection of fact and fiction in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” takes a creepy turn when introducing the hippie Manson Family, who lived at the rundown Spahn Movie Ranch during the lead up to the infamous Sharon Tate murders in August, 1969. Naturally, Tarantino couldn’t resist riffing on “Night of the Living Dead.”
“What’s neat — and I can’t truly take credit for it — is just the mise-en-scene,” Tarantino told IndieWire’s Anne Thompson. “It’s the production design [by Barbara Ling]. “We had a structure that was so bold and the [deliberate] pace of the movie, which is slower than the way movies are often done today,” says Thelma Schoonmaker, three-time Academy Award winner and editor on director Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman.” “Marty’s other great idea was, don’t explain. Don’t explain too much for the audience. Respect the audience’s ability to stay with the movie and understand, because if you keep bombarding them with facts, it just turns into a documentary, and he didn’t want that. So we hardly restructured at all.”
Editors often arbitrate between the perspectives of characters. Audiences might want to side with one person or another, but the goal of a filmmaker might be something much deeper.

One of the great surprises of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” was that Quentin Tarantino got to make his third western (following “Django Unchained” and “The Hateful Eight”) with his retro-contemporary redo of the actual ’60s TV series “Lancer.” Only he originally had something much more subversive in mind for Leonardo DiCaprio’s has-been actor, Rick Dalton, doing a guest shot as a hippie-looking gunslinger.

Update: Moviegoer interest in seeing Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood apparently wasn’t just among the public, who crowded theaters to bring in an impressive $40 million-plus weekend estimated box office haul and sold out shows in major markets, especially L.A. As filmmakers spend all-nighters in the editing suite in order to submit their latest work in time for festival premieres, it’s no surprise that during the sometimes extensive wait between the first showing and a theatrical premiere, more tinkering is bound to be done. Today we have updates on two of the biggest films coming out of Cannes Film Festival and the how most audiences will experience them.

Quentin Tarantino is not wedded to the Cannes cut of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” He and editor Fred Raskin worked hard to finish it in time to world premiere at his favorite festival on May 21, and Tarantino told me he wouldn’t have shown it if he wasn’t ready. As soon as he was sure he could deliver, festival director Thierry Fremaux alerted the news. But even if Sony struck three wet 35mm prints of the two-hour, 39-minute Cannes version, Tarantino can still go back into the editing room, Sony chairman Tom Rothman confirmed at the premiere.
