The longest-serving Speaker of the House in U.S. history, he occupied the office three times: 1940-1947, 1949-1953 and 1955-1961.
At the time he died in office, he was the eldest-sitting Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Nancy Pelosi
later surpassed his record in 2020.
