In recorded jail calls, “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed complained about the judge, prosecutor and jurors who served on her case and said she was “railroaded,” according to a court filing on Friday.
Gutierrez Reed was convicted last month of involuntary manslaughter for loading a live bullet into Alec Baldwin’s gun, leading to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. She is due to be sentenced on Monday in a Santa Fe, N.M. courtroom.
In the filing, prosecutor Kari Morrissey asked that she be sentenced to the maximum — 18 months — and said that the recorded calls show her lack of contrition.
“Ms. Gutierrez continues to deny responsibility and blame others,” Morrissey wrote.
The prosecutor provided a summary of the calls, in which Gutierrez Reed spoke with her mother, her boyfriend and a defense paralegal.

GoFundMe has shut down the fundraiser that Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed‘s family started to help pay for the cost of an appeal because it violated the company’s rules against raising money for “the legal defense of alleged financial and violent crimes.”
The family had launched the fundraiser ahead of Gutierrez-Reed’s scheduled sentencing for involuntary manslaughter on April 15. The 26-year-old Arizona woman faces up to 18 months in prison for her role in the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the low-budget Western. Gutierrez-Reed has been in custody since the Santa Fe jury’s verdict was read March 6.
During her trial, Gutierrez-Reed was represented pro bono by New Mexico attorney Jason Bowles. The GoFundMe, begun by her father, longtime entertainment industry armorer Thell Reed, asked donors to contribute to appeals expenses, with a fundraising goal of $100,000.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer on the ill-fated Western film “Rust,” was convicted on Wednesday of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the film’s cinematographer.
Jurors returned a verdict after less than three hours of deliberations on Wednesday afternoon, following two weeks of testimony about safety lapses on set.
Gutierrez Reed was acquitted of a separate charge of tampering with evidence. She faces up to 18 months in prison at sentencing, which is expected sometime in April.
Following the verdict, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ordered Gutierrez Reed remanded into custody. As her attorney, Monnica Barreras, rubbed her back to comfort her, bailiffs led her away.
Outside the First Judicial District courthouse in Santa Fe, N.M., juror Alberto Sanchez told reporters that the jury reached a “fair” verdict.
“Someone died,” Sanchez said. “You gotta take responsibility. Especially when you’re handling weapons and you’re in charge of those. That’s your job.

The man who supplied guns, blanks and dummy ammunition to the set of “Rust” denied Monday that he had provided any live rounds to the production.
Seth Kenney, owner of Pdq Arm and Prop, took the stand on the eighth day of the involuntary manslaughter trial of Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the film’s armorer. Gutierrez Reed is accused of negligently loading a live round into Alec Baldwin’s gun, leading to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Kenney testified that he individually rattled the dummies that he supplied to the set, ensuring that each one contained BBs that indicate they cannot be fired.
“I have never sent out any dummy round that doesn’t rattle,” Kenney said. “Unless it rattles, it’s not to be trusted.”

Rust ammunition supplier Seth Kenney today said during the involuntary manslaughter trial of armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed that he “started to sense that there were efforts to redistribute blame or the cause of this accident” over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on October 21, 2021.
Kenney asserted Monday that right after the accident, the attorneys for Gutierrez-Reed, as well as the relatively inexperienced armorer’s father 81-year-old veteran movie consultant and sharpshooter Thell Reed, were essentially trying to assert that “the live ammunition on the set of Rust …somehow came through me.”
“Knowing Thell and having been friends with him for a few years at that point, I know how much he loves his daughter,” Kenney said.
Charged with involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering, Gutierrez-Reed could go to state prison for up to three years if found guilty.

“We seemed to always be rushed and under the gun,” a key crew member on the troubled Rust film told a New Mexico jury today in the involuntary manslaughter trial of armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.
Describing the Alec Baldwin-starring indie western as “budgetarily restricted” and in a constant “state of chaos,” dolly grip Ross Addiego testified that the film was “moving at ludicrous speeds, racing the production clock” in its initial two weeks of production in Santa Fe. Amid tears, Addiego also gave detailed and emotional remarks about what happened on the set when Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot in October 2021.
One of the few members of Rust’s camera department who opted to stay on the movie after disputes about money and safety, Addiego bluntly told Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, the jury and others in the courtroom that “safety seemed to be secondary” on the set. He...

The involuntary manslaughter trial of Rust armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed got underway in a New Mexico courtroom on Thursday when the prosecution said her negligent and “sloppy” conduct led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Prosecutor Jason Lewis claimed Gutierrez-Reed, 27, who was 24 at the time of the tragedy, failed to properly check the prop gun she handed to Alec Baldwin.
The weapon in Baldwin’s hand discharged during a rehearsal at Bonanza Creek Ranch, Santa Fe, on October 21 2021, and hit Hutchins (pictured), who died hours later in hospital. It was later found the gun contained a live round.

Santa Fe, N.M. — The trial of “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed began Thursday with prosecutor Jason Lewis arguing that her “sloppy” and “unprofessional” conduct led to the death of the film’s cinematographer.
In his opening statement, Lewis argued that Gutierrez Reed had twice failed to properly check ammunition that she loaded into Alec Baldwin’s gun.
The cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, was killed when Baldwin fired a live round during blocking for a scene in October 2021.
“The defendant treated the safety protocols as if they were optional rather than as if people’s lives counted on her doing her job correctly,” Lewis argued. “By failing to make those vital safety checks, the defendant acted negligently and without due caution. The decision she made that day contributed to Ms. Hutchins’ death.”

Santa Fe, N.M. — A jury was selected Wednesday in the trial of Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the film armorer charged with involuntary manslaughter in the 2021 fatal accident on the set of “Rust.”
Twelve jurors were chosen — seven men and five women — along with four alternates, all men. The opening statements will be held Thursday.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer began the questioning by asking the pool of 70 potential jurors to raise their hands if they had seen media coverage of the case. Most hands went up.
Kari Morrissey, one of two special prosecutors, also focused on media coverage in her opening question.
“Because of all the press coverage, that makes it difficult to get a fair and impartial jury,” Morrissey said. “All of us can agree that frequently the press gets it wrong.”

On Oct. 21, 2021, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, then 24, arrived at the Bonanza Creek Ranch just south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, an hour or so before sunrise and reported to her job as the armorer and props assistant on the set of the low-budget indie Western Rust. She took a Covid test, swung by the catering tent and headed to the prop truck to prepare weapons the cast would need that day, including Alec Baldwin’s gun, a long Colt .45 revolver, which she loaded with what she has said she thought were dummy rounds.
When first assistant director Dave Halls called for Gutierrez-Reed on a walkie-talkie, she walked to a church set on the edge of the ranch’s mock Western town and approached Halls, seated in a pew with director of photography Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza, conferring about the schedule. SAG-AFTRA issued a statement Thursday defending Alec Baldwin after the actor was indicted last week for involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The union argued that Baldwin was not responsible for firearms safety, and that if the prosecution rests on such a responsibility, “that is an incorrect assessment of the actual duties of an actor on set.”
“An actor’s job is not to be a firearms or weapons expert,” the union said. “Performers train to perform, and they are not required or expected to be experts on guns or experienced in their use. The industry assigns that responsibility to qualified professionals who oversee their use and handling in every aspect.”

Hollywood studios and entertainment unions are close to a compromise on a new California law to tighten set safety rules, which comes in response to the fatal “Rust” shooting.
The compromise would adopt the film industry’s firearm safety rules, which are currently voluntary, into state law. It would also mandate specialized training for armorers and others who work with firearms on sets, according to sources familiar with the talks.
The two sides have been working for more than a year on the legislation following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in New Mexico in October 2021.

Prosecutors in New Mexico on Thursday announced criminal charges will be filed against Alec Baldwin in connection with his role in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of Rust.

Assistant director David Halls also signed a plea agreement for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon. The terms include a suspended sentence and six months of probation.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office released a massive trove on Monday from its ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust.” The release adds significantly to the public record of the events leading to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Oct. 21.
But it does not answer one key question: Where did the live round come from?
Movies often use real guns, but never real bullets. But on “Rust,” a live round made its way into a Colt .45, which Alec Baldwin fired during set-up for a shot inside a church at the Bonanza Creek Ranch. Investigators would later find seven other suspected live rounds on the set, mixed among dummy rounds.
Det. Alexandria Hancock was tasked with figuring out how they got there. On Nov. 9, she interviewed Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the film’s 24-year-old armorer, who came in with her attorney. The interview was recorded on Hancock’s bodycam.

Updated with Hutchins’ family lawyer statement: Long in the spotlight for Alec Baldwin’s fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins last October, the film’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed is now declaring a degree of vindication after a vital safety report’s release Wednesday.

Father Of ‘Rust’ Armorer Says Sabotage Might Be To Blame For Live Rounds In Gun Used By Alec Baldwin
The father of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the Santa Fe set of the movie Rust, told ABC News that he believes that sabotage was to blame for the loaded gun on the set, leading to weapon discharging as Alec Baldwin was rehearsing a scene on Oct. 21.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed and director Joe Souza was injured in the incident, but sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine why live ammunition was in the weapon Baldwin used.
Gutierrez-Reed’s father, Thell Reed, himself a veteran armorer in the industry, said that there was “a lot of motive there” for sabotage.
Jason Bowles, Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney, said, “Somebody wanted to cause a safety incident on set. Nobody wanted anybody to be killed. We have developed evidence of motive here. Why they wanted to do that. Why Hannah might have been a target and that has all gone to the sheriff.

Actor-producer says family is priority; “could give a shit” about his career.
In his first TV interview following the death of Halyna Hutchins an emotional Alec Baldwin insisted he was not to blame for the Rust cinematographer’s death and said he did not expect to face criminal charges.
Talking to George Stephanopoulos on the hour-long ‘Alec Baldwin Unscripted’ broadcast on ABC on Thursday night (December 2) the star recounted how Hutchins herself had guided him on where to point the Colt .45 during a rehearsal on October 21.

The weapons expert who supplied guns and ammo for the production of “Rust” told “Good Morning America” on Thursday that the live rounds found on set did not come from him.
Seth Kenney, of Pdq Arm & Prop, gave his first public comments shortly after investigators searched his business in Albuquerque, N.M., for clues that might explain how live rounds became mingled with dummy rounds. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on Oct. 21 when actor Alec Baldwin fired a live round from an antique .45 Colt revolver while preparing for a scene.
“It’s not a possibility that they came from Pdq or from myself personally,” Kenney told ABC News.
That statement conflicts what with Kenney told investigators on Oct. 29, according to a search warrant affidavit released on Tuesday. In that interview, Kenney surmised that the dummy rounds could have been mixed with “reloaded ammunition” he had received from a friend a couple of years earlier.

Updated with statement from Hannah Gutierrez-Reed) Santa Fe police may be a step closer to discovering where the live round fired last month by Alec Baldwin that killed Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins came from.
In a fourth search warrant approved by a New Mexico judge, detectives on Tuesday revealed that armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s father Thell Reed reached out to them November 15 to tell them about possibly hundreds of rounds of live ammunition that Rust “armorer mentor” Seth Kenney took from him earlier this year. Kenney told the elder Reed to “write it off” when the veteran armorer and stuntman repeatedly inquired about the rounds.
In two conversations with the Sheriff’s Office, the elder Reed revealed that he brought the “approximately 200-300 rounds in the can …described the can to be green in color and looked like a military ammo can” to a “firearms range” to help train actors on another production with Kenney.

The weapons expert who supplied firearms for use on the movie “Rust” told investigators he believed he knew how live rounds got mixed in with dummy rounds, according to an affidavit released on Tuesday.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the cause of the shooting on the set of the film on Oct. 21, in which actor Alec Baldwin fired a shot that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded the film’s director, Joel Souza. Detectives have focused on the question of how live rounds — which ordinarily would be forbidden anywhere near a movie set — came to be mixed with the dummy rounds.
Seth Kenney, the weapons expert who supplied the guns for the film, told investigators on Oct. 29 that he had received “reloaded ammunition” from a friend that had the same logo as the dummy rounds and blanks that he typically supplies to films.

Lawyering up with a former Assistant U.S. Attorney after being called out in public by Santa Fe’s sheriff, the Rust armorer at the center of the tragic accident that saw cinematographer Halyna Hutchins fatally shot has spoken out for the first time.
Disputing tales of after-hours target practice with weapons used for the film, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez’s lawyers on Thursday also confirmed that two weapons were accidentally discharged on the troubled Bonanza Creek Ranch set of Rust before the accident October 21
“Safety is Hannah’s number on priority on set,” said attorneys Jason Bowles and Robert Gorence in a statement released late tonight. “Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced. Hannah has no idea where the live rounds came from.”
“Hannah still, to this day, has never had an accidental discharge,” her lawyers claim in their statement tonight.

Authorities believe a lead bullet removed by doctors from the shoulder of “Rust” director Joel Souza is the same one that struck and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and was fired out of a gun shot by actor Alec Baldwin on the New Mexico set of the film last Thursday. That bullet, along with 500 blanks, dummy rounds, and suspected live rounds are among the evidence that has been collected by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department as part of its ongoing investigation into the fatal incident.
“I think the facts are clear: A weapon was handed to Mr. Baldwin, the weapon is functional and fired a live round, killing Ms. Hutchins and injuring Mr. Sousa,” Sheriff Adan Mendoza said during a Wednesday press conference.
No charges have been filed as of yet. Mendoza said made sure to specify that much of the information he shared will need to be confirmed...
