Combining intense action with deep, sociopolitical context is quite a hard endeavor, but this is exactly what Johnnie To achieved with “Breaking News” as he deals with the media, apart from one of his trademark themes, gangsters and the police.
After the clash of the police with a band of ruthless criminals led by the ingenious Yuen ends up with a sound defeat of the former, the media are all over the officers of the law, particularly since one of them was caught on camera surrendering to the robbers, and actually being one of the few that manages to survive. Hard-nosed inspector Cheung and his crew are initially tasked with catching the criminals, but as soon as Superintendent Rebecca Fong becomes in charge of the case, she tries to take them off the case, as her purposes are completely different: To promote police work by having the...

Johnnie To uses his favorite theme of cops and criminals, adds some doctors, and places all the action in a hospital, as he directs a truly agonizing thriller.
Suspense is the key word
Dr Tong Qian is one of the youngest neurosurgeons in the country, but seems to have stumbled upon a wall, as she has made some mistakes lately, particularly because she was overconfident. Eventually, a team of policemen headed by Chief Inspector Ken bring in a criminal with a head injury, Shun. While Dr Qian tries to operate on him, he wakes up, as it is proven that the bullet in his head has not hit anything crucial, and Shun does not give permission to operate on him. Furthermore, Inspector Ken seems to be trying to cover up the events that led to his injury and, at the same time, to discover the whereabouts of the rest of his gang.

Kill Zone 2, retitled from the slightly less badass sounding Spl 2: A Time For Consequences, is actually a follow-up to Wilson Yip’s 2005 film Kill Zone rather than a direct sequel, though the frenzied, bone-breaking action of the original is kept intact and even kicked up a few notches. Directed by Cheang Pou-soi, the film is a pan-Asian noir-thriller with a body-harvesting element, a twist that’s sure to capture genre fans’ attention.
But underneath its gory premise lies a simple, blistering exhibition of exhilarating martial arts choreography starring the (former?) pride of Thailand, Tony Jaa, and a couple of talented, fast-kicking up-and-comers in the form of Zhang Jin and Wu Jing. The action is brutal, elegantly staged and so fast that you’ll feel your hair blow back as the kicks whiz back and forth, but it’s the woefully improbable narrative that gives the movie a strange,...

Alex Kingston’s River Song will join Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor for a new audio adventure with Big Finish. Also, Churchill is back...
Exciting news here – the rumoured return for River Song to Doctor Who has been confirmed, but not in the way you might expect. Alex Kingston’s character won’t be teaming up with Peter Capaldi on TV, but instead joining Paul McGann in the audio world of Big Finish.
River will join the eighth Doctor, as well as his companions Liv (Nicola Walker) and Helen (Hattie Morahan) for Doctor Who: Doom Coalition 2. Seeing as this Doctor hasn’t met River yet (David Tennant’s version, in Silence In The Library, was the first to meet her), River will have to help him without revealing too much about herself.
“The idea of River meeting previous Doctors was actually proposed by Steven Moffat,” producer David Richardson said.

I do have a few favorites in this list and i feel best movie could go to Drug War and best actor should fall to Choi Min-sik (just brilliant in every movie).
Here is the list of nominations below, feel free to write your favorites in the comment box at the bottom of the page.

Big Finish audio story The Light at the End will feature multiple Doctors and a number of old friends...
While details of the BBC's TV plans to mark Doctor Who's 50th anniversary are still largely under wraps, Big Finish has confirmed its audio adventure celebration.
Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are all set to voice their Doctors in Doctor Who: The Light at the End, a 100-minute story that will see multiple Doctors facing "imminent destruction", to be released in November.
Here's what writer/director Nicholas Briggs had to say:
“We wanted to do a proper, fully-fledged multi-Doctor story for this very special occasion, and it’s wonderful that all the surviving Doctors threw themselves behind the project so enthusiastically. That’s not to say the first three Doctors don’t appear – we wanted to pay homage to...

According to an interview that appeared in today's Rutherglen Reformer, Andrew Smith, author of the 1980 Doctor Who serial Full Circle, has been commissioned for a new script by Big Finish.
Smith wrote Full Circle at the age of 18. The story involved the Fourth Doctor, Romana and K9 entering the universe of E-Space. The story is notorious for introducing the character of Adric.
The new script, entitled Invasion of E-Space, has been written for the Companions Chronicles line with Lalla Ward as Romana telling the story, which features the Fourth Doctor and Adric.
Big Finish Producer David Richardson said: “I met Andrew at a convention in Glasgow last year. I was a fan of Full Circle, which was such a clever and inventive script, so I was delighted when he said he might be interesting in writing for Big Finish. It was an instant yes from me - and over the...

Recording is complete on the first season of The Lost Stories, audio versions of unrecorded adventures from Doctor Who's past. Studio work wrapped on Thursday November 5, with the second and final day on Point of Entry, a dark historical thriller originally storyline by Barbara Clegg in the mid-80s, and now adapted by Marc Platt. “There was a real energy on that story,” says producer David Richardson. “Colin and Nicola were absolutely thrilled by the script, and the...

Big Finish have announced a new range of audio adventures based on "lost stories" of Doctor Who - the series has launched this month with audio adaptions of the Sixth Doctor's adventures after Revelation of the Daleks, the unmade Season 23, kicking off with Graham Williams' The Nightmare Fair.
Big Finish plan to release another series of stories next year, following the Seventh Doctor's adventures post-Survival - these are made in collaboration with the then script editor Andrew Cartmel. Says range producer David Richardson:Doctor Who was cancelled in 1989, but the production team already had plans for the following year. It’s been my pleasure to collaborate with script editor Andrew Cartmel, who is rebooting those original storylines together with the writers who had been pencilled in for the season. Script writing is underway – in fact, the second story is nearly finished - and we hope to record these...

Sparrow is a weird little movie. It's an obvious pet project by director Johnnie To that moves in its own breezy rhythm, no doubt an aftereffect of its lax shooting style. Over a period of three years, To and his tight crew—which includes usual faces like Simon Yam and Lam Ka Tung—would shoot scenes for Sparrow in-between their big projects. It's obvious that it's not one of To's best, but it's a very loose and fun film nonetheless.
You can tell it's a To film by its quartet of male anti-heroes. Simon Yam plays Kei, the leader of a quartet of "sparrows" (Hong Kong slang for pickpockets). A beautiful woman (the luminous Kelly Lin) from mainland China enters all their lives separately, and soon they are tangled in a dangerous game against the woman's husband, an old and powerful gang boss. A pretty lady wants to escape a...

You may have recently heard a rumour - supposedly courtesy of 1980s Doctor Who companion Janet Fielding at last weekend's Bad Wolf convention - that Tegan Jovanka would be returning to our screens in 2010. There has been a lot of confusion about this, but thankfully Big Finish's David Richardson has stepped in to clarify: 'We can confirm that Janet Fielding has been asked to reprise the role of Tegan in a season of three stories in 2010, and we are delighted that she has agreed. At...

Beijing -- Hoping a cuddly black-and-white national treasure will again produce Chinese boxoffice gold, Disney is releasing "Trail of the Panda" here Friday.
The release comes ahead of the first anniversary of the deadly earthquake that uprooted the endangered species' home. It follows last summer's record-breaking run for DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda," which earned more than $14.7 million in the territory.
Disney's second Chinese-language film, "Trail" unspools on 900 of the country's roughly 4,000 screens via Huaxia Film Distribution.
Made for $5 million by Beijing-based Ying Dong Media, the film, about an orphaned boy who saves a twin panda cub separated from its mother, "Trail" was nearly ruined last spring. As shooting wound down in the Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve in southwest China's Sichuan province, an 8.0 quake struck May 12, killing more than 70,000 people in the area.
Twenty-eight members of the film's crew abandoned B-roll film and equipment and hiked through the mountains...

Such is the success of The Companion Chronicles - in which former Doctor Who companions narrate new adventures featuring them and (usually) the Doctor, Big Finish have announced a fourth series of the audio plays. The series returns in July with Simon Guerrier's The Drowned World which is a direct sequel to the earlier Home Truths, and sees Jean Marsh return as Sara Kingdom. “The response to Home Truths was sensational,” says series producer David Richardson...
