At a time when it’s seemingly impossible to reach consensus about anything from science and meteorology to how economies function and who should benefit from them, it’s either daring or divisive for “Raya and the Last Dragon” to make a case for reaching out to our enemies and trusting them to put the common good above factional rivalry.
How viewers will respond to that kind of message in a family-friendly period fantasy will no doubt vary, but the film itself is a gorgeous piece of work that features elaborate and ambitious world-building, stunning visuals and an A-team of impressive voice actors. It’s a film with a lot on its mind and plenty of plot and character plates to spin, but the results are both impressive and exciting.

Nominations for the 41st Annual Annie Awards were announced and "Frozen" and "Monsters University" led the pack with 10 nominations each. "Despicable Me 2" and "The Croods" followed closely with 9 noms each.
I am rooting for "Frozen" to win! It's a return to form to what Disney does best -- affecting fairy tale with memorable musical numbers. "Monsters University," on the other hand, was bland. The film bored me on second viewing.
Steven Spielberg will receive the Winsor McCay Award for career achievement at the awards ceremony happening on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. Patrick Warburton will serve as host.

Leave it to Disney to come up with a way to update Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale Treasure Island into a science fiction epic. The studio that brought you the unforgettable live-action film version returned to the source material once again with the idea of taking the adventure into deep space and to other worlds. Unfortunately, moviegoers weren't interested in Treasure Planet when it came out in 2002. The film underperformed at the box office but was still nominated for a 2002 Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Feature.

Tangled Directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard took part in a very cool virtual roundtable interview recently, and they managed to cover a lot of subjects while interviewers got a chance to catch some of the special features. I'll be getting you a lot of great stuff related to this release in the coming days, but for now check out what the directors had to say about their film.
Q - Congratulations on the film's success. Have you given any thought to making a sequel?
A - Nathan Greno: We'd only do a sequel if there was a great story to tell. The movie buttons up really nicely... but we do love those characters... I guess we'll have to wait and see. Again, we'd have to have a great story already in mind if we wanted to do a sequel...

With the upcoming blu-ray & DVD release of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Tangled“, Disney gave us the opportunity of a roundtable Q&A with the film’s directors. The film was directed by both Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, previous Disney films they have worked on are: Bolt, Brother Bear, Prep & Landing, Mulan, as well as Lilo & Stitch. I personally loved the movie (it was one of the top 3 films on my list for 2010), the story was fantastic, songs moving & memorable, Zachary Levi & Mandy Moore were outstanding, and let’s not forget how beautifully animated the film was… plus Pascal & Maximus were pretty awesome too.
As an aspiring filmmaker of animated films and geek of anything Disney and/or Pixar it’s great to see films like this succeed, as well as being made in general.
Check out the the amazing Q & A below (questions are in bold, answers...
