Roadside Attractions will release Stonewall, a drama about the 1969 Stonewall riots that started America’s Lgbt rights movement, on September 25, 2015.
Written by Jon Robin Baitz and directed by Roland Emmerich, both out gay men, the film stars Jeremy Irvine and newcomer Jonny Beauchamp, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ron Perlman.
Emmerich, who also produced the film, says, “I was always interested and passionate about telling this important story, but I feel it has never been more timely than right now.” Less than 50 years ago, in 1969, being gay was considered a mental illness; gay people could not be employed by the government; it was illegal for gay people to congregate, and police brutality against gays went unchecked. Today, thanks to the events set in motion by the Stonewall riots, the gay rights movement continues to make incredible strides towards equality. In the past several weeks alone, the...

B-movie classic The Blob is getting another remake. Why? I couldn’t tell you, but here we are. Goldcrest Films is moving forward with the project, which the studio has set The Expendables 2 helmer Simon West to direct.
The 1958 cult classic, directed by Irvin Yeaworth, starred a young Steve McQueen as a teenager whose small Pennsylvania hometown is unexpectedly threatened when a gelatinous alien life-form emerges from a meteor and begins to consume the townfolk, growing larger in size with every new victim and oozing forward with no indication of stopping.
The Blob, though received with mixed reviews at the time of its release, is now held up as a prime example of B-movie entertainment. It birthed a sequel, Larry Hagman’s 1972 Beware! The Blob, and was previously remade in 1988 by Chuck Russell. Producers on this remake are Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten.
West said of his new take:...

Once you’re absorbed by its terror, you can’t even scream. The slimy mass that is the Blob first thrilled audiences when it took on Steve McQueen on the big screen in 1958. It next oozed into cinemas via the 1972 sequel, Beware! The Blob, before being reborn in a 1988 remake directed by Chuck Russell and co-written by Frank Darabont. Proving that it’s still a relentless alien amoeba, 1958’s The Blob is being remade once again.
Goldcrest Films is moving forward with a remake of The Blob, with Simon West (The Expendables 2, Con Air) lined up for the director’s chair and shooting slated to begin this summer. Modern-day special effects capabilities are expected to bring the Blob to life like never before, and Chris Haney (Avatar, Avengers Assemble) will oversee the VFX in post-production.

Roland Emmerich's upcoming gay rights drama "Stonewall" has added three new patrons. Jonathan Rhys Meyers ("Match Point," NBC's "Dracula"), Ron Perlman ("Sons of Anarchy," the "Hellboy" movies), and Joey King ("White House Down") have joined the small-scale passion project from the "Independence Day" and "2012" director. Los Angeles, August 27: Principal photography begins today in Los Angeles on erotic thriller Plush directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) and produced by Jason Blum, producer of the Paranormal Activity franchise. The picture is being financed by Im Global’s genre label Octane. Plush stars a sexy young cast, including Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, The Uninvited), Xavier Samuel (Twilight Sage: Eclipse, Anonymous) and Cam Gigandet (Easy A, Never Back Down) in a story of rising rock star Hayley (Browning) who, after losing her band mate and brother to a drug overdose, finds herself in a downward spiral. The second album from her band Plush is received as a critical and commercial disaster, but she finds new hope and friendship in Enzo ( Samuel), the replacement guitarist who inspires her to reach new creative heights. However, their collaboration soon crosses the line sexually and Hayley, not wanting to betray her husband (Gigandet), retreats from Enzo’s advances.

Producer Johnny Lin has reworked production company Filmula with a mandate to finance two to four movies annually and has greenlighted "Tweakers Delight," a drama directed by Emir Kusturica with a $35 million budget.
Filmula also said that international rights to "Hesher," its Natalie Portman starrer that premiered this year at Sundance, have been acquired by Nu Image in a seven-figure deal. The title will be changed in international markets to "Rebel." Domestic rights already have been sold to Newmarket for a fall release.
Filmula, which recently changed its name from Dreamagine, was founded in 2008 as the producing partner of CatchPlay, a division of Via Technologies and Studio Solutions Group. Filmula has offices in Los Angeles and Taiwan.
CatchPlay is perhaps the biggest movie distributor in Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Last year, it released 45 theatricals and more than 100 direct-to-dvd titles, handling films from Relativity Media and Lionsgate, among others.

International presales used to be the panacea par excellence for the always ailing indie film business. But during the past few years, the cure no longer worked, sending many struggling indies into a coma if not straight to the morgue.
Suddenly, there are signs of recuperation: Numerous film sellers report a pleasant surprise after the recent European Film Market in Berlin. Presales are back ... sort of.
Richard Rionda Del Castro, chairman of West Hollywood-based foreign seller Hannibal Pictures, was among those who experienced better-than-anticipated results, especially for the police thriller "Son of No One," starring Al Pacino and Channing Tatum.
Although prices paid by foreign-territory buyers remain "30% to 40% lower than two years ago," says Del Castro, his company was able to close deals covering much of Western Europe, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
"I could see an improvement compared to the past two years," he says. "I would say...

NEW YORK -- Ed Pressman and John Schmidt's ContentFilm banner said Wednesday that it will finance and produce a big-screen adaptation of Donald Goines' novel Daddy Cool. A Goines novel was the basis for ContentFilm's Never Die Alone, which Fox Searchlight is releasing Friday. Cool follows a hit man whose family life is torn apart after his teenage daughter runs away. When the assassin tries to rescue her, a tragic series of circumstances unfolds. Alone helmer Ernest Dickerson is said to be circling Cool, and another Alone alum, rapper-actor DMX, is considering a supporting role and shared producing responsibilities through his Bloodline Pictures banner. Daddy was adapted by screenwriter Oren Moverman (Jesus' Son). James Gibson is executive producing with Marc Gerald, Pressman and Schmidt. ContentFilm's Alessandro Camon will produce. Michael Roban, ContentFilm head of business affairs and acquisitions, brokered the deal with publisher Holloway House's Bentley Morris for Cool's rights. ContentFilm's credits include The Cooler, which was released by Lions Gate Films, and United Artists' upcoming Undertow.
