Captain America: Brave New World is less than a year away from hitting theaters and, if we're really lucky, a trailer might be attached to Deadpool & Wolverine later this summer.
In the meantime, a new still from the movie has started doing the rounds on social media - seemingly from Empire - which features Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), director Julius Onah, and Xosha Roquemore's mystery character.
Cap is suited up and appears to be in a war room. As for Roquemore, it's previously been reported that she's playing Leila Taylor. Introduced in 1971 and created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., she was Sam Wilson's girlfriend but faded into obscurity in the early 2000s.
On the page, Leila was a journalist who fought for equal rights and eventually worked for The Daily Bugle. This version looks like she might work for the CIA or be a Secret Service agent,...

For the first time (except for the studio's unplanned 2020 Covid-19 hiatus) since "The Avengers" rocked the box office all the way back in 2012, there will be only one Marvel Studios film released this year.
That film is "Deadpool & Wolverine," which just released its second trailer after the first debuted during the Super Bowl. Hugh Jackman, who's been playing Wolverine since 2000's "X-Men, was lured out of superhero retirement to share the screen with Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds). Wolverine had an emotional, well-crafted send-off in 2017's "Logan," but now that Disney owns all of Marvel Comics' characters (thanks to a merger with 20th Century Fox), they want the face of Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Regardless, Jackman seems pretty pumped about putting the claws back on. He teased the trailer on his social media account, posting a clip with sepia-toned clips from past "Wolverine"/"X-Men" movies over Deadpool's voiceover: "Eventually,...

The late Len Wein was one of the most prolific comic book writers of his day. Like many of his contemporaries (especially Marv Wolfman and Gerry Conway), he bounced back and forth between the "Big Two" comic companies, Marvel and DC. Wein left his mark at both, co-creating characters like Swamp Thing and Lucius Fox at DC and the next generation of X-Men at Marvel.
However, his most famous creation is without a doubt Wolverine. Lein worked with then Marvel Editor-In-Chief Roy Thomas and artist John Romita Sr.; the trio debuted Logan in 1974's "Incredible Hulk" issue #180 (written by Wein). In creating Wolverine, Wein wanted to give whoever wrote "X-Men" next a new mutant character. As it turns out, that writer was Wein himself when he crafted "Giant-Size X-Men" #1 with artist Dave Cockrum the following year. Wein eventually ceded the ongoing "X-Men" series to writer Chris Claremont, but...

John Romita Sr., the legendary Marvel artist who worked on characters ranging from Spider-Man and Wolverine to the Punisher and Black Widow, has passed away at the age of 93.
On their official website, Marvel set up a wonderful tribute to the brilliant artist, complete with a touching drawing depicting John Romita Sr. at his desk surrounded by some of the classic characters that he worked on throughout his career. “Millions came to know Marvel through his art, and millions more came to know Peter Parker through the unmistakable bold brushwork Romita brought to his pages…Known fondly to many as “Jazzy” John Romita in the Marvel Bullpen, his kindness, grace, and vision will always be remembered, and his influence will continue to shape generations of artists to come at Marvel and beyond…The Marvel family has lost one of its legends, and we mourn the loss of a creative giant.

John Romita Sr., the groundbreaking comic book artist who co-created some of the most influential characters in Marvel Comics history and drew some of the company’s most celebrated stories, died Tuesday, his son announced. He was 93.
Romita was already an established comics artist in the late 1960s when he took over as lead artist on “The Amazing Spider-Man,” but soon he established a unique, era-defining style for the character and helped create the title’s most enduring love interest, Mary Jane Watson. He would later co-create the mutant Wolverine, the criminal overlord Kingpin, and the vigilante antihero The Punisher, creations that would become staples of a billion dollar entertainment franchise, immortalized for generations of fans even if his name never became as widely known as his frequent collaborator, Stan Lee.
“I say this with a heavy heart, My father, John Romita passed away peacefully in his sleep this Monday morning.

How do you solve a problem like Frank Castle?
The Punisher has had a wild career since Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru created him way back in 1974. Originally a pretty clear cut villain, his popularity saw him frequently guest star so much he morphed into something of an anti-hero. You can blame Frank Miller for that one. His graduation to his own multiple books saw him become one of Marvel’s biggest characters in the early 1990s, together with Wolverine and Ghost Rider. Heck, he even got his own Netflix TV show just a few years ago. So, why has Frank not been flavour of the month lately?

Peter Parker is a rebel. He’s a high-swinging, hard-kicking, red and blue smartass who never keeps his mouth shut. Spider-Man may have grown up learning the lessons of his dear Aunt May and Uncle Ben, but outside of those ostensible parents, he never has time for anyone over 30. He was the superhero idol of his age in the 1960s: a wiseguy who taunted all the squares that tried to make him respect their authority. Yet whether it was his best mate’s father, Norman Osborn, or Otto Octavius and his ridiculous bowl cut, those stiffs learned just how few webs he had to give.
It feels worthwhile remembering this aspect of the character nowadays. After all, the most popular modern image of Spider-Man—Tom Holland’s affable spaz in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—has largely abandoned this fundamental element of the comic book character in favor of becoming the...

Some fans jumped in joy when Crystal Dynamics announced that Spider-Man would be joining the roster of the upcoming action-adventure game Marvel’s Avengers in 2021. But not all Marvel fans were happy with the announcement, especially those who planned to get the game on an Xbox console or PC.

During a Twitter Q&a session hosted by Wired on Monday, “Avengers: Endgame” director Joe Russo surprised fans when he said that Richard Rider’s Nova was in the huge battle scene in the film.
“Look closely at that scene again and you will see. You will see Richard Rider in the background of the shot. Easter egg,” Russo said.

The official Netflix set-up synopsis for the new season of The Punisher: “Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as...

Without Stan Lee, there would be no X-Men. Hugh Jackman won the role of a lifetime when he was cast as Wolverine in the 2000 film adaptation of the beloved comic book series, replacing Dougray Scott three weeks into filming. While John Romita Sr., Roy Thomas and Len Wein had created the character, Jackman knew how influential Lee had been in developing the franchise. So, hours after Lee's death Monday, the actor wanted to pay tribute to the pop culture legend on The Late Show. "Let me just say, to the family and to the legions of fans, that I remember Stan as a true gentleman who had this glint in his eye. He's a creative genius," Jackman said to Stephen Colbert. "He thought outside the box. He created a...

Writer, editor, and Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee has died at the age of 95.
Stan Lee, the legendary writer and editor who co-created the Marvel Universe has died at the age of 95.
Born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York City in 1922, Stan Lee began working at Timely Comics in 1939, during the early days of the golden age of comics. Timely published Captain America by Joe Simon and future Lee collaborator Jack Kirby, as well as a book with the prophetic title of Marvel Comics. Lee’s first published work came in a text-only filler story in Captain America Comics #3 in 1941. Before long, Lee was the editor-in-chief of Timely.
Timely eventually became Atlas and switched its focus to genres like westerns and romance. But in the early 1960s, Lee and Jack Kirby created The Fantastic Four, and changed the course of comic book history. Following on from the success of the Fantastic Four,...

Season 3 of Daredevil is earning rave reviews on Netflix from fans and critics alike at the moment and rightfully so. I most confess at this time and I wear it with a badge of honour but I first became interested in Daredevil after watching and enjoying the 2003 movie with Ben Affleck as the man without fear. Through reading comics already and things like Wizard magazine I knew the name most associated with Daredevil was Frank Miller. I knew his art work from the original Wolverine mini series he did with Chris Claremont and I knew his writing from The Dark Knight Returns. I made his run on the title my first port of call for back issues to collect. Back in those days I was picking up all my back issues at conventions and relatively little trouble getting all of them for a variety of grades and prices. I wasn...

Six episodes were provided for review.
The Defenders may not have been the high-performer that Netflix hoped it would be (our review here), but nevertheless, its premiere essentially concludes “Phase One” of this branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, setting the stage for new stories with established characters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist (all of whom have secured another season). Before any of the Defenders return to the small screen, however, it’s Jon Bernthal’s turn in the spotlight. The Walking Dead alum debuted as Frank Castle in Daredevil season 2 and immediately emerged as a fan favorite. Thus, The Punisher was born.
As a character, The Punisher – created by Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru in 1974 – has traditionally been depicted as a sheer force of vengeance. But Castle’s quest for revenge against the criminals who killed his family is all but complete...

While bloodthirsty fanboys will forever continue the DC vs. Marvel debate, the fact of the matter is that there are many of us who enjoy stories released by both publishers. Furthermore, it’s important we not overlook that countless talented writers and artists have switched sides throughout their illustrious careers. Heck, even John Romita Jr. made the jump to DC a few years back.
On that note, another name normally associated with the House of Ideas has made a similar shocking career move. Truth be told, we all figured the day would come when Brian Michael Bendis would write for DC, but we never knew when that’d be.
Well, with a single Tweet that rocked the industry, DC announced that Bendis has signed an exclusive deal with them that’ll span multiple years, thereby allowing the co-creator of characters such as Miles Morales and Jessica Jones access to their pantheon of heroes and villains.

Even though Thor: Ragnarok debuts in cinemas in just a couple of days, it turns out we’re not going to have to wait years for interesting bits of trivia to trickle online – even though that’ll most assuredly happen. Actually, even the most unexpected sources are proving to bear some generous fruit.
As you know, Marvel Comics’ version of Thor borrows heavily from Norse mythology, with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby having fused the fantastical with science fiction back in the day, thus creating the superhero and the world he inhabits that we’ve come to love today. Furthermore, the books – along with the music of Amon Amarth – have become one of the more popular ways for folks living outside of Scandinavia to become familiar with that culture.
Obviously, names other than Thor, Loki and Odin remain mostly foreign to the average Joe, thus leading to an odd game...

Black clothes. White skull. Smoking guns. These are the gloriously simple ingredients behind the Punisher, the no-holds-barred antihero who'll soon be starring in one of the fall's most anticipated series. As played by The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal during the second season of Netflix's Daredevil, the gun-toting vigilante stole every scene he was in, making the network's relentless campaign of teases and trailers damn near irresistible. But like every major superhero, he's taken a long strange trip from his comic-book origins to his modern-day multimedia superstardom. Below, you'll find...

There’s a peculiar mix of older graphic novels and new graphic novels in our home right now. The new stuff is all part of a top-secret project I’m working on with my daughter, Tess. We can’t let the cat out of the bag yet, but you can check out her showcase of street art for the sneak peek tease. (And now that I think about it, who even puts cats into bags ?!?)
I’m struck by the wide variety of engaging, superlative creative endeavors we cram under the umbrella term “graphic novel.” While there’s one line of thinking that argues Geek Culture has outgrown the phrase “graphic novel,” it’s still handy and flexible enough for hardcore fans, casual fans, librarians, and bookstore owners.

There's no doubt that the landscape of modern-day comics (and, by extension, comic book film adaptations) would not be quite what it is today without Len Wein, who co-created two of the most intriguing characters in comic book history. It is with heavy hearts, then, that we share the news of the innovative writer and editor's passing at the age of 69.
The news of Wein's passing comes from multiple sources, including DC Comics and Variety. The cause of death has not been announced, but fans of Wein who keep up on his Twitter account know that he has been undergoing surgeries in recent years, including getting a new heart valve in 2016.
After Wein began writing for DC Comics in the late 1960s, there was no looking back, as he went on to make his mark on comic book history by co-creating Swamp Thing with Bernie Wrightson (who also passed away...

Wolverine co-creator, Watchmen editor, and legendary comic book writer Len Wein has died at the age of 69.
Len Wein, the legendary co-creator of Wolverine and Swamp Thing, as well as the editor who helped Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons bring Watchmen to life, has died at the age of 69.
Wein's career spanned decades and you can find his fingerprints all over the comics industry in addition to his two most famous creations. Shortly after he co-created Wolverine alongside John Romita Sr. and Roy Thomas, Wein, with artist Dave Cockrum, revived the previously failing X-Men in 1975 with the larger, more colorful lineup that launched the team to pop culture immortality. During his extended stay at Marvel Comics (including a year as editor-in-chief), Wein took a shot at writing many of Marvel's flagship books, including long (and fan favorite) runs on Marvel Team-Up and Amazing Spider-Man.

A few weeks ago we learned that Frank Miller was going to be working on a new comic book called Superman: Year One. He explained at the time that this would allow him to finally have a meaningful crack at Superman. He also said that it would tell his origin story.
"It’s telling his beginnings from when Pa Kent discovered him in the cornfield, and the little boy goes to youth, and then to manhood."
According to artist John Romita Jr., though, it's not really an origin story. During a DC Comics Metal Panel, he talked about what he knows of the upcoming comic saying:
"I’ve seen the reactions online about, ‘Oh, my God, here we go, another Superman origin,’ and it’s not really the origin retelling. It’s after the origin, it’s after he lands, what happens between the time he lands and the time he realizes what he is.

Jay Baruchel chats to us about comics, X-Men movies, Goon 2 and Jason Statham...
Jay Baruchel is a very happy man indeed. Over the last decade, I’ve been fortunate enough to interview a lot of people for Den of Geek, but Mr Baruchel might just be the most enthusiastic one to date – almost every sentence ended with the kind of joyous laugh that would come from having, quite possibly, the best job ever, twice. Known to most as an actor with a gift for the comedic, having starred in the likes of Tropic Thunder, Knocked Up, Goon, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and The Art Of The Steal (to name a few personal favourites) as well as voicing accidental hero Hiccup in the fantastic How To Train Your Dragon movies, it was about his recent involvement with Canadian comic book publisher, Chapterhouse, that we had a chat with him about.

It is not uncommon for young boys to grow up viewing their fathers as being a real live hero — choosing to immolate their every move. This is why boys shadow their father shaving in the bathroom in the morning or cutting the yard. Now, imagine growing up and your father is one of the world’s top comic strip artists and storytellers. Well, this was actual reality of John Romita Jr. Yes, that is right, he is the son of the great John Romita Sr. — the sketch artist behind a great deal of the artwork and storytelling at Marvel

With there being so many comic book reboots into feature action films, people are beginning to reminisce about their youth when reading comic books was a fetish of almost every kid in America. When you start talking about static comic book art, it would be remiss not to mention the name of John Romita Sr., one of the most prolific comic book artist of all time. Lee has drawn for of some of the greats in the industry including a stint for Stan Lee’s Atlas Group and Western Publishing. While you might not have heard or seen his name before,

We've discussed whether or not there's a rivalry between DC and Marvel (there's not), and what it means for superheroes going forward (it means nothing). Kevin Feige recently downplayed the topic as well, citing what's good for the Dceu is also good for the McU, but if you go way back, to a time when Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, and The Avengers had just exploded onto the comic book scene, unseating Batman, Superman, and the Justice League of America from their positions at the top of the industry...a certain legendary creator decided to stir the pot and stoke the flames of competition, but in a uniquely humorous, good-natured way.
According to THR, Marvel's editor/head writer at the time, Stan Lee, frequently took shots at his distinguished competition, to play up Marvel's growing power in comics -- that's right folks, Stan Lee is the original troll! Back in the...

It’s been quite a while since I’ve plopped my butt down on an airline seat. There are several reasons for this, the primary one being I loathe being treated like shit.
As we have seen from all too many recent incidents, once onboard airplane employees have complete control over your fate. If you do not promptly obey their every command or, say, object to their anti-peanut policy, they can and will have you arrested. If somebody on the plane thinks you look weird, or you look like a Muslim or some other type of person they find noxious, they will complain to a flight attendant. If you have yet to take-off, the airplane Nazis will call the goon squad and have you taken off the plane, sometimes by force. If you’re in the air, you likely will be arrested when the plane lands. Paranoid Fox News watchers,...

I’m still reeling – in a good way – from Syracuse’s Salt City Comic-Con. It was a fantastic comic convention where I had way too much fun. And I’ve got some observations to share with you about it, but they’ll have to wait until next week.
This week I like to share some of the treasures I found at the show.
Let’s start with the “full disclosure” routine. I’m at the point where my comic collection is way too large, and I’ve been taking the steps to prune it back over the last few years. I’ve found this process difficult to adjust to, but my wife and I are in that downsizing mode. Surprisingly, I’m finding that maybe I am not that much of a hoarder after all. I actually feel better when I get rid of stuff.
But… I can’t help...

Dark Days: The Forge #1 is a glorified zero issue that lays major groundwork for the upcoming Metal event that will be impacting nearly all DC comics this upcoming summer. Much is revealed in this issue that will have many fans asking some major questions. The issue, however, is if you are not very familiar with DC lore prior to The New 52 you may be left confused by nearly everything this is showcased in this book. Clearly, something major is going on and this is the very beginning. For some it may be a better choice just to wait until it gets fully started.
Long lasting DC fans that have loved stories like Crisis on Infinite Earths and even The Dark Knight Strikes Again will certainly have a lot to be excited about.
