The production companies behind the 2014 film, Walk of Shame, as well as its lead star Elizabeth Banks, have prevailed in a lawsuit alleging the script about a reporter's journey after a one-night stand was stolen. The copyright and breach-of-implied-contract complaint was filed by Shame on You Productions, operated by Dan Rosen, who alleged the film was illicitly derived from his screenplay "Darci's Walk of Shame." He claimed that in 2007, he met with Bank and her husband, Max Handelman, who produces films through Brownstone Productions, to pitch the screenplay. Despite supposed interest, Banks and

Last night I was at the latest of many discussions about the future of music streaming. And the more I hear, the more I come to the same conclusion: nobody knows how – or if – the business model will work.
As more and more music streaming sites vie for market share, the one thing music industry experts and utopian-minded music bloggers share is this: digital sales will continue to increase, and no one has yet fully figured out how music will be monetised in the future.
Host John Safran, Rdio's Dave Cain and Scott Bagby
I was at Rdio’s Future of Music roundtable, featuring some of Australia’s best brightest music industry people, and came away with the single clear thought: the role of brands will be paramount, but no one has anywhere near cracked how to play that role.
There’s no doubt that music streaming platforms like Rdio...

The Australian music industry has vowed to clamp down on illegal downloading. New research has shown that music sales in the country are continuing to fall, while as many as one in four internet users access illegal music websites and services each month. Australian Recording Industry Association (Aria) CEO Dan Rosen told the Herald Sun that unauthorised downloading could cause permanent long-term damage to local musicians and the entire industry. "Online piracy is still the biggest challenge we face as an industry,'' he said. "There's no moral justification anymore, everything is available digitally and legally, it's purely people stealing." Rosen also revealed that Aria is trying to seek help from the government as well as internet service providers to put a stop to pirated music, saying: "It's not about whacking people, it's (more)...

Fred Durst wasn't the first Du-singer to make it into the world of cinema. Back in the '90s, Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz produced two films, and now, a decade later, he's heading back to the biz. Variety reports that Duritz is going to produce a new film from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe called Freeloaders. Written by director Dan Rosen (with the lead singer of Gigolo Aunts, Dave Gibbs), the film focuses on "five guys and a girl who live in the lap of luxury in a rock star's mansion." That is, until the star decides that he wants to sell his home. Oh, the woes of groupie moochers. Broken Lizard (Super Troopers) is financing the film, and I imagine they're also starring in it -- that leaves us with the girl, and the rock star. Will Duritz take it? And speaking of '90s singers and film -- who's next?...

Broken Lizard’s credits include “Super Troopers,” “Club Dread” and “Beerfest.” The group is currently working on “The Slammin’ Salmon.”
Final word: I never enjoyed any of the Lizard’s comedies, so I am definitely not looking forward to this one. But hey, that’s just me.

What happens when a Counting Crow meets Broken Lizard? We’re about to find out, for Counting Crows frontman, Adam Duritz – he of the nasal whine, dreadlocks and inexplicably high hit ratio with the female cast of Friends – has signed on to produce Freeloaders, the new film from the American comedy troupe. And that’s not the only rock’n’roll connection – Gigolo Aunts lead singer Dave Gibbs co-wrote the screenplay, along with Dan Rosen, who will direct. And a quick perusal of the plot will tell you why – it’s about a group of freeloaders (five guys, one girl) who sponge off a rock singer in his massive mansion. When he decides to sell up, their carefree existence is plunged into doubt – and, clearly, something must be done. Curiously, neither Rosen, Gibbs or Duritz are members of Broken Lizard – the troupe that comprises Erik Stolhanske, Paul Soter, Steve Lemme,...
