MGM TV head Mark Burnett — the prolific producer behind reality show staples such as “The Apprentice,” “Shark Tank,” and “Survivor” — is teaming with CNBC for a new unscripted prime-time series aimed at anyone who dreams of owning their own business.
“Business Hunters,” set to debut this fall, features aspiring entrepreneurs who leave the comfort and safety of their day jobs to take a chance on themselves by buying a business. The MGM series arrives as American employers have seen unprecedented resignation levels throughout the pandemic as workers wrestle back the power from their bosses.
“I love this format. I’ve lived it! The idea of betting on yourself is the American dream,” said Burnett, who serves as chairman of worldwide television at MGM. “This will be unlike any show I’ve ever done in the business space, because for the first time, the buyers are everyday people, just like the viewer at home.

There’s nothing like a major political scandal to deliver TV ratings, and so it proved in the U.K. this bank holiday weekend.
Despite it being the hottest day of the year, a reported 3.7 million viewers tuned into BBC One on Monday afternoon to hear Dominic Cummings, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s chief advisor, defend his decision to make a 260-mile trip while the country was in lockdown. Cummings was recently portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the Channel 4/HBO drama “Brexit: The Uncivil War.”
Cummings explained yesterday that he had not told Boris Johnson when he decided to take his family from London to County Durham, in the North of England, on March 27 after his wife developed Covid-19 symptoms.
Cummings — who masterminded the successful Brexit campaign ahead of the U.K.’s referendum on E.U. membership — said he believed he had acted “reasonably” and within the law.

In modern reality television’s 16 years on cable and eight years on network, the genre has given television more (and often better) gay portrayals than scripted programming. Whether part of competitions in artificial contexts or fly-on-the-wall footage of real people's lives, reality TV has offered moments so unexpected that viewers might not have believed them if they occurred on a drama or sitcom.
With the fall television season now underway and reality shows bound to create more such moments – Dancing with the Stars has Lance Bass and Survivor has a gay contestant once again, among others – now's a good time to look back at some of the more memorable moments, ranging from progressive portrayals to cringe-inducing scenes.

Hollywood superstar George Clooney has laughed off rumours he is set to return to the long-running U.S. medical drama Er for its final season.
Reports alleged the 46-year-old was one of the former stars of the hit series due to make a small-screen comeback to celebrate the hit show ending after its 15th season later this year.
But Clooney - who shot to fame with his portrayal of hunky Dr Douglas Ross - has dismissed the claims, insisting the series' bosses have not asked him to come back.
And the actor wasn't the only one shocked by the rumours of his return - he claims the show's executive producer John Wells had no idea of his supposed cameo appearance either.
He explains, "No, we never even talked about it. No one has ever asked me. It's the funniest thing. The story came out, and I was like, 'Where did that come from?' It was everywhere - I mean in one day!
"I ran into John Wells two days ago on the lot . and said to him, 'What the hell happened?' He said, 'I don't know. I don't know where that came from."
But Clooney isn't discounting how crucial the role was to his catapulting him to stardom, adding, "I was 33 when Er hit, so I have a very different outlook on the way things work.
"I don't think I was supposed to have been famous. I realize how much of this is luck."...

Actor George Clooney is reportedly set to make a comeback on the long-running Us medical drama Er for its final season.
The series' producer David Zabel is desperate to get characters old and new together for a one-off special to celebrate the hit show ending - namely Clooney, who would reprise his role as Dr Douglas Ross.
The TV drama, which will close after its 15th season, catapulted the 46-year-old star to the Hollywood A-list after his run on the show from 1994 to 1999.
Zabel says, "We want to revisit characters that have existed on the show over the years and say where they are now.
"We'd love to get them all back in some way - that doesn't mean we are going to but we are going to try."
And bosses at the show's U.S. network NBC are also eager to bring back actor Anthony Edwards - despite the fact his character Dr Mark Greene died of a brain tumour.
Zabel adds, "There are ways to do it that we've thought about - even if it were like a lost episode from 1996."...
