When you sign on as the lead character of the seminal sci-fi series "Doctor Who," there are certain things that must happen. First, you need an instantly recognizable costume. Then, you'll have to pick out the right Sonic Screwdriver. It's recommended that you change the desktop on the Tardis as well, but it's not always necessary. You should also expect to mix it up with a number of classic monsters from across the long-running British show's extensive history like Daleks, Cybermen, and maybe even The Master. And, seeing as you would be a part of the New Who (or NuWho) era, you would have to find an excuse to wear the beloved orange spacesuit. Luckily, just under the wire before she took her final bow as the iconic Time Lord, Jodie Whitaker's Thirteenth Doctor donned the suit for the first and last time in "The Power of the Doctor" before regenerating.

Season 11 has ended, but Doctor Who is the story that never ends. What did Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Class leave unanswered?
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This feature contains spoilers for every series of Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and Class.
It's a big universe out there and it's only got bigger since Doctor Who returned. Returning to screens in the multi-channel age, it's not surprising that the new series' success has led to spin-offs. In the last 13 years, the program has evolved into one of the BBC's biggest global properties, creating more chances to explore the Whoniverse for its writers and producers.
Beyond the Tardis-faring adventures of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and now Jodie Whittaker, we've had three major spin-off series “from the world of Doctor Who” since 2005. All were made for vastly different audiences to each other,...

As Doctor Who fans know, David Tennant played the Tenth Doctor – one of the most popular incarnations of the Time Lord – from 2005 to 2010. He then picked up the sonic screwdriver again for the 50th anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor.” But it turns out that there was another time Tennant returned to the role, too, that we never knew about. Until now, that is.
Back in 2013, Tennant teamed up with his wife Georgia Moffett to film a special home video as a present to their friend Gary Russell, a Doctor Who writer who was emigrating to Australia. The hilarious short has now made its way online, courtesy of the actress – who herself is a major figure in Who lore – and sees Tennant not only in character but also in full costume as the Tenth Doctor, parodying his own performance. He even references a proper plot point from the show.

Big Finish is finally entering current Doctor Who continuity with the Unit Extinction adventures, but what does that mean?
During Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary celebrations, everybody had their own favourite moments. Maybe yours was seeing Matt Smith and David Tennant sparring with each other. Maybe it was the “all thirteen!” moment on Gallifrey, seeing Tom Baker turn up at the end to say “Hi! I’m Tom Baker! How cool is that?”, or watching Peter Davison and Colin Baker try and break into the BBC. There was no shortage of punch-the-air moments for fans. But as someone who spent nearly every moment of the anniversary bouncing up and down and literally clapping my hands with glee, the highpoint came towards the end of Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor short, The Night of the Doctor. Just before he regenerates, he utters the words “Charlie, C'rizz, Lucy, Tamsin, Molly, friends, companions I've known,...

Ghosts! Teen exorcists! Doctor Who! Platform games! Just some of the stuff on offer in this week's Crowdfunding Friday...
Every so often, a crowdfunding project seems to come along and take on a life of its own. That's certainly the case with Mighty No. 9, a side-scrolling platform game that managed, almost entirely thanks to enthusiastic word-of-mouth, managed to break through its $900,000 minimum goal within less than 48 hours. At the time of writing, its total stands at $1.6million and rapidly climbing.
It's when you look at who's behind the project that you realise what the fuss is all about: former Capcom artist and designer Keiji Inafune has assembled a phenomenally talented team of fellow videogame makers under the banner Comcept USA, and together, they're making what promises to be a spiritual follow-up to Mega Man.

Left to right: the audiobook, the 50th anniversary edition, the original cover.
In the introduction to the 50th anniversary edition of Beautiful Chaos Gary Russell informs us he made Russel T. Davies cry. He dismisses this as Mr. Davies “just being nice”. Well Mr. Russell you made me teary by page 7 and sobbing by the time I reached Donna’s letter on page 239. Russell also claims there that he wrote Beautiful Chaos to be a story “about loss, sadness, triumph, and living the only life we have, despite – or even because of – what fate hands us.” The result is very much that story, an exploration of memory and identity from the utterly human, to the very alien, and everything in between.
To like this novel, you have to like Donna, you need to be invested in her and in her family. Or you at least need to be willing to...

Ruined castles and rolling moors; mysterious islands and hidden caves: the five can find adventure wherever they are. Join them at Kirrin Cottage, or away on their holidays as they encounter smugglers, scoundrels and spies. Thankfully, Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny are always around to offer lashings of ginger beer.

This weekend I made my first trip to the 23rd installment of Gallifrey One – a Doctor Who convention held annually in La – and it was nothing short of Outstanding. The defining characteristic of this event is that it is 100% fan-run. This means every staff member and volunteer is participating out of sheer love and enjoyment of the series, and it shows in every detail of the programming. Chairman Robbie Bourget and his team planned a fantastic convention with an enormous variety of interviews, discussion panels and screenings.
The charm of this convention goes beyond the quality of programming. Just as important to the overall experience is the character of the fans. I am pleased to say I have never been surrounded by so many friendly, enthusiastic, and kind people that I immediately felt a connection with. This inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere was in no way diminished by a record-breaking attendance of 3,183 people.

In addition to the ongoing audio dramas and original novels, the adventures of Captain Jack and the Torchwood crew are coming to comic books. Titan Publishing, which already handles the Torchwood magazine, will release a comic in August.
Two stories will appear, the first, “Captain Jack and the Selkie”, is being co-written by series star John Barrowman and his sister Carol E. Barrowman,. Handling the art is veteran Tommy Lee Edwards and Jonathan Ross. A New Torchwood comic, based on the hit sci-fi show, is being launched by Titan Publishing.
In its first issue, John Barrowman (Torchwood's Captain Jack) and his sister and frequent collaborator Carole E. Barrowman have teamed up with artist Tommy Lee Edwards, currently working with TV presenter Jonathan Ross on the comic series Turf, to produce a story called The Selkie.
The Selkie is one of two original Torchwood stories in the launch issue and sees Jack facing a deadly threat on a remote Scottish island, where people are disappearing. To his horror, Jack starts to suspect he may know who, or what, is responsible.
Barrowman says Edwards is one of his favourite artists. The pair began working together after Barrowman and his sister Carole spotted a poster of Captain Jack at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con.
