Theaters will need wider screens because two action icons built like trucks, Dolph Lundgren and Michael Jai White, are teaming up for Fight or Flight, an upcoming action thriller. Shane Dax Taylor directs the assassins-in-action film project, and Charlotte Kirk joins the lead cast. Fight or Flight is going to Cannes. Archstone represents international sales, while Saban holds the North American rights.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Fight or Flight has the following synopsis:
“Sam Hayden as an assassin of assassins, completing every assignment – no matter how dangerous with ruthless precision. Sam’s next assignment is to take out his legendarily ruthless predecessor, Charles Managold (Dolph Lundgren), who has fallen for his beautiful exotic mark and is now on the run with her. The loudest voice in Hollywood last week belonged to Haim Saban. “Bad . . . Bad . . . bad decision, on all levels,” he roared, in an email to President Joseph Biden, sent via White House aides, denouncing the Administration’s announced plan to withhold bombs and artillery shells from Israel if it proceeds against Hamas in the population centers of Rafah.
About the policy itself, opinions vary (to put it mildly). Congressional representative Ilhan Omar happily declared that pro-Palestinian protests had worked. Former Biden spokesperson Jen Psaki said Biden should have used his “leverage” sooner. But by week’s end, Presidential surrogates, feeling heat from critics, were looking for semantic wiggle room; Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Biden was solid behind Israel, but had been guilty of ‘imprecision.’
In any case, it is impossible not to be impressed by the clear, emphatic and melodramatic declaration from Saban, whose brief missive—addressing “You Mr. President...

Media mogul Haim Saban sent an email to top White House aides criticizing President Joe Biden’s threat to withhold arms shipments to support an Israeli military invasion of Rafah.
In the email — reported by Axios and Israeli media outlets — Saban, a longtime major Democratic donor, called Biden’s threat a “bad…bad…bad decision on all levels. Pls reconsider.” The email was addressed to Steve Ricchetti and Anita Dunn, two of the president’s top aides.
“Even beyond Israel, this sends a terrible message to our allies in the region, and beyond that, we can flip from doing the right thing to bending to political pressure.”
He added, “Let’s not forget that there are more Jewish voters who care about Israel, than Muslims [sic] voters that care about Hamas.”

Nick Saban, who ended his high-profile run as head football coach at the University of Alabama last month, is headed to ESPN.
The championship-winning coach will become a regular on the network’s popular show College GameDay and is also slated to appear elsewhere on ESPN, including on coverage of the NFL Draft this spring.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the Saban signing and a slew of other news during the company’s fiscal first quarter earnings call.
Saban, 72, is already a recognizable figure on ESPN, whether in interviews, documentary programming or in commercials for insurance firm Aflac. Prior to Alabama, Saban coached at Toledo and Michigan State before winning a national title at Lsu, but he is best known for capturing six more titles in a 16-year run at Alabama. He has come to be seen as essentially college football’s version of NFL coach Bill Belichick. Strikingly, both...

ESPN is going to take a bigger swing at streaming video.
The Disney sports-media giant aims to launch a stand-alone direct-to-consumer product that would give subscribers its full portfolio of game-day content, “Sports Center,” talk shows and analysis programs by the fall of 2025, and potentially by August of that year, ahead of the NFL season, the company’s CEO, Bob Iger, disclosed during an interview on CNBC. ESPN already offers its ESPN+ subscription-video service, but that offering was devised as a complement to the sports unit’s linear portfolio — almost as if a few large crumbs had fallen off a bigger cake.
The timeline for the new, larger ESPN streaming hub shows Disney moving with some urgency as it seeks to claw back revenue as one-time TV subscribers migrate to broadband products. ESPN has thrived for decades on affiliate fees from cable and satellite distributors, but so-called “cord cutting” is washing away that revenue stream.

Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban is retiring, ending one of the greatest coaching careers in the game’s history.
Saban won six national titles at Alabama and one at Louisiana State University. He took his most recent Alabama team into this year’s national championship final four, falling to the eventual national champions by 27-20 in overtime in the Rose Bowl.
He also had a brief and unsuccessful stint coaching the NFL’s Miami Dolphins from 2005-2006, going 15-17 before returning to the college game. He also coached in the NFL as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.
Saban has not spoken on his retirement, but multiple sources have confirmed his news.
Saban, 72, just completed his 17th season at Alabama. In 17 seasons, he won 201 games — tied with Vince Dooley (Georgia) for the second-most wins at a single school in SEC history, behind only Bear Bryant, who won...

Dermot Mulroney – action hero? Could happen.
I ran a piece not long ago asking where the new action heroes are. Some of our legends, like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Neeson, are well into their seventies and slowing down. An odd quirk of modern action fans is that they tend to prefer their heroes on the older side. Think of the biggest action stars out there. Are there any under fifty? With Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves busy in A-list action, there’s a lot of room in the second-tier category, and now Dermot Mulroney, a rom-com perennial from the nineties, is dipping his toe into the genre with his new film, Ruthless.
In the new trailer, which Saban just put out, Mulroney plays a high school coach with a specific “set of skills” and a bad temper. When one of his favourite students gets abused by her dad,...

Butcher’s Crossing was reviewed at TIFF 2022.
Plot: A young man (Fred Hechinger) forsakes his wealth and privilege to explore the American west. He’s talked into bankrolling a Buffalo hunting expedition by Miller (Nicolas Cage), who’s become obsessed with his all-consuming trade. Soon, the two are on an endless expedition threatening their lives and sanity.
Review: As a lifelong Nicolas Cage fan, it’s tremendously rewarding to see him again respected as perhaps the most iconoclastic actor of our era. While I’d argue there are bigger stars out there, there are few on-screen personalities to match Cage, and while he was stuck in an endless loop of Dtv movies for too long, he’s since re-emerged and regained his reputation as a master of his craft. It helps that even in his worst movies, Cage never phoned it in, which is perhaps why he’s been able to...

In a carriage battle about pay TV’s future, one of the original cable channels became an unexpected flashpoint.
Freeform, the Disney-owned cable channel that caters to younger women, was dropped from Spectrum channel lineups as part of Disney’s landmark deal with Charter Communications. It was no small decision, with Freeform in some 74 million homes at the end of last year, and with Charter’s nearly 15 million cable TV households no longer having access.
“When we looked across the portfolio to try to identify where the greatest value in this deal was to us, we definitely made some trade-offs,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden told The Hollywood Reporter after the Spectrum deal was announced. She noted that channels like Freeform already served as a pipeline of programming for streaming services like Hulu.

I was set to cover Black Lotus when it was released in the UK a month from now when, to my surprise, a friend announced it was our movie watch for the weekend. It seems it was released over here with pretty much zero publicity, which is never a good sign. But his enthusiasm “It’s got Frank Grillo and a seven-foot Mma fighter!” won me over. And since I was going to be watching it now, I figured I might as well write it up now as well.
Armed men have taken the German National Opera hostage and are demanding a three hundred million ransom. Three hundred million what is never mentioned but be it dollars, euros, or marks, they want three hundred million of them.

Digimon, as a franchise, has always had the perception of being Pokémon‘s less successful younger brother. That’s bound to happen when two Japanese media franchises choose to name themselves after the pneumonic of “Adjective + Monster,” with Pokémon meaning “Pocket Monsters” and Digimon meaning “Digital Monsters.” That perception, however, isn’t entirely fair. Digimon never reached the cultural heights that Pokémon did because truthfully: very few franchises do. But that doesn’t mean that Digimon didn’t have plenty going for it back during the dawn of the 21st century.
First starting as a series of virtual pet toys before moving on to video games, card games, other merchandizing, manga, and ultimately a moderately successful anime, the Digimon franchise was genuinely successful in the late ’90s and early ’00s. So much so that the digital powers-that-be must have felt they had everything they needed to compete with Pokémon. There...

The minute you see the words “The Addams Family,” no doubt you snap your fingers twice.. The Addams clan has seen several incarnations since debuting as a series of The New Yorker cartoons penned by Charles Addams in 1938. The cartoons and the various films and television shows that rose in their wake perfectly blend the humorous and the macabre while focusing on the tight-knit family of Gomez, Morticia, their children Pugsley and Wednesday, and Uncle Fester.
The latest iteration is Tim Burton’s series “Wednesday,” set to debut on Netflix on November 23. The series centers on a teenage Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) trying to solve many mysteries, one being how to cement her identity outside the shadow of her ever-glamorous mother, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Wednesday is also tasked with harnessing her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case at Nevermore Academy and cracking a murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago.
