Was invited to Hollywood in 1938 but decided to sign a contract with
Gaumont British instead. The film 'Strange Boarders' (1938) was ignored
by the public and she decided to leave England and go to Italy to work
with Vittorio De Sica who directed his first film, 'Rose Scarlatte'
(1940), but the film also bombed at the box-office.
