Sarah Michelle Gellar’s long-awaited return to the small screen has been cut short.
Paramount+ has officially canceled Wolf Pack ten months after its freshman finale.
The series kicked off in January 2023 and picked up with a deadly fire ravaging California.
It triggered a series of supernatural events, and a group of teenagers came together under strange circumstances.
Gellar, best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, played an arson investigator named Kristin Ramsey.
Despite spending much of the freshman season against the group of werewolves at the show’s core, the now-series finale found fans being let in on a big secret:
Kristin was also a werewolf.
Wolf Pack season 2 promised to be very different
The first season of Wolf Pack set the stage for a much bigger second season that will sadly never see the light of day now.

Paramount has decided to not move forward with a second season of “Wolf Pack,” Variety has confirmed.
Based on Edo Van Belkom’s book series and created by Jeff Davis, the show follows two teens whose lives are changed when a California wildfire awakens a supernatural creature. Season 1 aired in Jan 2023 alongside the “Teen Wolf” movie. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rodrigo Santoro, Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson and Tyler Lawrence Gray starred.
Sources say Paramount hoped the audience behind the series would have grown from Season 1 to Season 2, but due to the dual Hollywood strikes, the likelihood of that happening was cut short since production was stopped. Season 2 would’ve arrived roughly two years after Season 1 debuted.
The series serves as the latest Paramount+ original to be canceled following “Joe Pickett,” which ended after two seasons in October 2023. Along with the rest of last year’s cancellations including “iCarly,...

Wolf Pack, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, will not return to Paramount+ for a second season.
Although the drama series never was officially renewed for Season 2, the team was actively working on it, with production having been slated to begin in February, sources close to production told Deadline. Series creator Jeff Davis told the cast about the cancellation this week.
It comes as Paramount+ continues cutting costs, which also includes mass layoffs. Bob Bakish addressed this in a memo to his team on Thursday that the company will continue to reduce its global workforce “to operate as a leaner company and spend less” after Deadline revealed over the weekend that the company was bracing for more staff cuts, thought to be in the hundreds including the programming teams.

In the years before Twitter was euthanized, I’d patiently wait for the onset of the holiday season, and the renewal in my feed of the great “Love Actually” Debate. Every year, the best and brightest of the world — middle management apparatchiks, underemployed magazine writers and hall of fame doomscrollers — would chime in, mostly on the nein side, and make their arguments with eloquence. My favorite was ‘You’re a fucking idiot.’
That one I heard a lot.
“Love Actually” turns 20 this month, and I thought it was time for a thorough revaluation. Was it still a glorious double-steak overstuffed Chipotle burrito of humanity, or would I now see it as they did — a foot-long Subway sandwich with way too many olives bought at a South Dakota gas station?
So I watched the movie again this week. I was struck with an unearned epiphany, the kind that you find in a middlebrow holiday romantic comedy.

We saw that Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro was hard at work on a new fourth feature, and now we have title, cast and minor plot details to share. Titled Outro Lado do Céu (translates to Another Side of Heaven), Rodrigo Santoro (who we most recently saw in the Venice preemed 7 Prisoners) looks to be part of main players on this fourth feature film by Mascaro who reteams with Desvia Produções’ Rachel Ellis (most recently produced the Quinzaine-selected Légua). Look for this to be ready for a major film fest in 2024. Here is the translated synopsis:

Once again, the caprices of the Netflix algorithm have somehow unearthed a little talked-about near-bomb from a decade ago and pushed it right to the top of the streaming service's popularity charts. In mid-April of 2023, the Kim Jee-woon action flick "The Last Stand" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Knoxville was Netflix's #1 movie. In this case, it is a minor work of justice, as "The Last Stand" was actually a pretty good movie. It was bright, upbeat, enjoyably violent, and boasted a fun cast of notable supporting players, including the inimitable Luis Guzmán, Jaime Alexander, and Rodrigo Santoro. Forest Whitaker played an FBI guy. The film was a modest critical success (it boasts a 61% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes), but only made $43 million at the worldwide box office. It passed from the public consciousness pretty quickly after that.
"The Last Stand" was, of course, meant to be something of a comeback for Schwarzenegger.

Updated: The MTV Movie & TV Awards will no longer be live on Sunday, as the show pivots to a pre-tape in light of the writers strike. “As we carefully navigate how best to deliver the fan first awards’ show we envisioned that our team has worked so hard to create, we’re pivoting away from a live event that still enables us to produce a memorable night full of exclusive sneak peaks, irreverent categories our audience has come to expect, and countless moments that will both surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and TV over the past year,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount Global, and an executive producer of the MTV Movie & TV Awards, in a statement.

Drew Barrymore has pulled out of hosting the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards just days ahead of the live show.
The TV personality made the decision to step down in support of the Hollywood writers’ strike, however, she remains on good terms with MTV as she agreed upon returning as host for the 2024 awards show.
Nonetheless, Sunday’s upcoming show must go on, and will do so hostless, MTV confirmed to Variety on Thursday. Producers have been busy making changes to the live ceremony- part of their strike contingency plans- such as taking away the pre-show red carpet, including interviews with the stars.
“I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike,” Barrymore said in a statement obtained by the outlet. “Everything we celebrate and honour about movies and television is born out of their creation.

The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which is slated to air live this Sunday from Santa Monica’s Barker Hanger with host Drew Barrymore, will move forward even as a writers strike is now underway. The ABC drama Lost kept fans and critics hooked for six seasons. It wasn’t always positive. Not everyone was satisfied with the show’s answers to its own mysteries, but they kept watching to the end and many were. One development that did not go over well was the characters of Nikki and Paolo.

On March 28, 2007, Lost listened to fans and killed off Nikki and Paolo. Ironically, “Expose” turned out to be the best Nikki and Paolo episode. Here’s what happened:
The introduction of Nikki and Paolo on ‘Lost’
Lost was about the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island. The plane already included a large ensemble cast of survivors. Each week, Lost would focus on a different character and flash back to their lives before the island, informing some of the action on the island.

After 26 years away from the supernatural monsters of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Sarah Michelle Gellar is back in the pack with "Wolf Pack." The Paramount+ series, created by Jeff Davis ("Teen Wolf"), is based on the book of the same name by Edo van Belkom. When a fire causes animals to flee the forest, and some teens are injured, they discover that werewolves are real and living among them. Some of those attacked have become wolves as well. The series also stars Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson, Tyler Lawrence Gray, and Rodrigo Santoro.
The draw for many fans, however, is Gellar's return. After all, she did star as Buffy, a groundbreaking show for the time about a young woman who was far more than she appeared to be -- a vampire slayer who not only fought monsters but had a bunch of them as friends.
It may be flawed and of its time,...

[This story contains major spoilers from the first season of Wolf Pack.]
Sarah Michelle Gellar is already quite familiar with the supernatural world, but what drew her to the Paramount+ series Wolf Pack goes deeper into what the show represents.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress’ latest project, which she stars in and executive produces, has her embracing werewolves, but in a way that gives her the opportunity to discuss important real-world topics, which she says is the reason she did the show. “Supernatural stories, in a really odd way, allow you to tell the most superhuman stories,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter.
While the series, written and produced by Jeff Davis, starts off as a “slow burn,” Gellar’s character eventually has two twists that most probably didn’t see coming — including when she’s revealed to be a werewolf. By the end of the first season, the high school-set horror show has answered many questions surrounding Gellar’s shocking character,...

Lew Wallace's 1880 novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" has been adapted into film many times. Much like the regular remakes of "A Star is Born," including the 2018 version, every adaptation reveals something about where Hollywood was at the time of its making. The story is a sprawling biblical epic, one that suggests a kind of maximum blockbuster potential, with naval war scenes and gladiatorial combat. Silent adaptations were made in 1909 and 1927, but the most enduring (and human) take on the story was the four-hour 1959 epic directed by William Wyler.
So why did the 2016 take on "Ben-Hur" fail to make any kind of impact -- or even its budget back at the box office? It's not as if the story is any less rich in the current day. Positive memories of the definitive Wyler take on the story surely linger. And that story's brand of action and masculine themes,...

Is the Oscar cinematography category making progress when it comes to recognizing female DPs?
This year, Mandy Walker became only the third woman ever nominated for cinematography for her work on “Elvis.” Rachel Morrison (“Mudbound”) made history as the first female Dp to land a nom and that was in 2018, while Ari Wegner was nominated last year for “The Power of the Dog.”
Walker’s up against James Friend (“All Quiet on the Western Front”), Darius Khondji, Roger Deakins (“Empire of Light”) and Florian Hoffmeister (“Tár”), in a very competitive race.
While the cinematographers’ branch has a notoriously poor track record in honoring diverse artists — no Black Dp has ever won the category and only two have been nominated — Walker might have an edge.
Her work on “Elvis” earned her the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts gong for cinematography — the first woman to take home this prize ever.

German powerhouse Zdf Studios and U.K.-based Factual Fiction are reteaming for “#DorianGray,” an updated social media spin on Oscar Wilde’s classic, “The Picture of Dorian Gray.”
In Wilde’s original, first published as a novella in 1890 in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine, the self-besotted Dorian Gray sells his soul in exchange for eternal youth, a picture painted of him recording the decay of his soul as in outward appearance he remains physically forever young.
Currently being written by Maiya John, a young London-based screenwriter, the contemporary reimagining is described by Zdf Studios as “a suspenseful ride through the life of a teenager as they construct their identity.”
While navigating sex, and gender, mental health and consent, through tweets and #instagram and Tik Tok videos, Dorian Gray, as in Wilde’s central concept, projects an image of who he’d like to be, rather than who he really is.

Wolf Pack's most recent episode concluded with a big twist, changing the trajectory of the new Paramount+ drama.
At the end of Wolf Pack Season 1 Episode 2, Kristin (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her team rounded up Everett (Armani Jackson), Blake (Bella Shepard), Luna (Chloe Rose Robertson), and Harlan (Tyler Lawrence Gray).
We learned that Kristin had many questions for the teenagers, but we're sure she'll have far more for Everett after he was found at the hospital with Connor's cast.

In every generation, there is a Chosen One. But for many, there’s a particular Chosen One who has transcended all that with a legacy that endures from one generation to the next.
Kendra and Faith both hold a special place in our hearts, but it’s Buffy Summers who will forever remain the blueprint, even now. Sunnydale would have been a very different place without its signature Slayer, and it’s safe to say that TV as a whole would have been very different without Sarah Michelle Gellar too.
In the 20 years that have passed since Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, Gellar has slayed all manner of projects, from underrated roles in Ringer and Southland Tales to an instantly iconic comeback in Do Revenge.
And now she’s back on our screens, working both in-front-of and behind the camera for a new TV show called Wolf Pack.

Before a deep dive into Paramount+’s latest supernatural teen drama “Wolf Pack,” a bit of housekeeping is in order. “Wolf Pack” is the creation of Jeff Davis, who also loosely adapted “Teen Wolf” (from the old Michael J. Fox film) into a six-season drama, for Paramount’s MTV. But “Wolf Pack” – built from the novel by Edo van Belkom – is not a “Teen Wolf” spin-off, and doesn’t take place in the same universe. But it is about werewolves, and it premieres immediately following the new culminating “Teen Wolf” movie. So that settles that.
That might make Davis’ newest project a tad bit confusing, but it’s also a pretty slick strategy to follow your hit series with a show that resembles it so closely that audiences might not resist its supernatural pull. Basically, Davis has cornered the market on teen dramas for people who stayed angry about Bella...

It’s not an anniversary most people are celebrating, but it was only a year ago that Peacock released a quirky little dramedy called Wolf Like Me. Even though it was obvious to anybody who could read the title, the preference was that critics not spoil that the show, featuring a great central performance from Isla Fisher, was really about werewolves. Then again, if you revealed that the show was about werewolves, audiences tuning in for werewolves probably would have felt like the show was too much about people. Stupid, pesky people and their pesky feelings.
Fortunately, there’s no need to tip-toe when it comes to Paramount+’s new drama Wolf Pack. It’s about werewolves. Yay! The very best thing that can be said about Wolf Pack is that it’s not coy. Still, even knowing that the show is unquestionably about werewolves, discerning audiences tuning in for...

Supernatural mystery fans were undoubtedly thrilled when news of the "Wolf Pack" series was announced. The series was created by beloved "Teen Wolf" producer Jeff Davis, and stars "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" superstar Sarah Michelle Gellar. Like any highly-anticipated show, fans are eager to learn more about the cast, which includes veteran actor Rodrigo Santoro,...
