Mitchell Leisen’s great Christmas-time tale has a brilliant screenplay by Preston Sturges and letter-perfect performances by Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray, threading the needle between light cynicism and well-earned sentiment. Sturges’ celebration of ‘country values’ is sincere and heartfelt, as is his affection for the supporting cast. The presentation includes two radio broadcasts plus a star-studded Paramount short subject for war bonds.

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is looking for his next film project after Hobbs and Shaw and he may have found it with Undying Love.
Undying Love is based on a graphic novel created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, and it involves vampires. Warner Bros. managed to acquire the rights to the comic when it was in a big bidding war years back. Directors Joe Carnahan and Alex Aja have previously been attached to the film, but it looks like Leitch may end up being the one to get it made. Here’s the story summary:
In this horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore set in modern-day Hong Kong, ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: she's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her.

Macmillan CEO John Sargent’s hard stand against book discounting in 2010 was the first salvo in the war of Amazon versus Big Publishing (and led eventually to the Department of Justice’s lawsuit against the latter). Today he announced a multi-year truce of sorts, becoming the latest to make a deal with the etailer to regain at least some control over the price of the company’s books. (Simon & Schuster made a deal in October, and Hachette, whose books Amazon had been deliberately underselling, came to terms last month.)There’s a major catch, though, at least in Macmillan’s case, which made Sargent’s letter today to agents, authors, and illustrators a bit more complicated than the usual CEO report. Sargent gamely explained that, while its agreement with Amazon does away with the value-destroying deep discounts of the past, it still has to endure “unlimited discounting” until October 5, 2017 in...

After his failed attempt to adapt "Daredevil," director Joe Carnahan is aiming to get another comic book adaptation under his belt.
"The Grey" helmer is reportedly in talks to direct an adaptation of "Undying Love," Deadline has learned. The graphic novel, which was written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, tells the story of two lovers, an ex-soldier named John Sargent and a Chinese vampire named Mei. Sargent goes on a journey to kill the vampire who made Mei in order to free her from her curse.
This might not be Carnahan's next project, as he's already working on "Nemesis" and a remake of "Death Wish." However, it is exciting to know that Carnahan hasn't given up on the comic book movie genre after missing out on the "Daredevil" remake.
Meanwhile, Carnahan has revealed who his dream actor to play Daredevil in his planned remake would have been.

A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan is attached to write and direct the big screen adaptation of the vampire comic book Undying Love for Warner Bros. The comic was published in 2011 and created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who also previously wrote a draft of the script when Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja was attached to direct the movie. Obviously he was never able to move it into production. I think Carnahan is a better director anyway, and I think this will be a great project for him to work on. It's definitely different from anything he's worked on before.

The high-concept vampire tale? Another one? Please no! But wait, this time we have The Grey helmer Joe Carnahan interested in the whole thing, maybe that news deserves our attention after all? Yeah, I thought so.
Here’s the thing then, Carnahan is apparently attached to both write and direct an adaptation of a graphic novel series created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, and titled Undying Love. Sounds promising?
Described as a horror-action tale, Undying Love combines vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, and is set in modern day Hong Kong.
It centers on an ex-soldier John Sargent who has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: yeah, you already guess – she’s a vampire! In July 2011, Warner Bros. purchased film rights to Image Comics’ Undying Love. We haven’t heard much about the project since earlier this year, when Alexandre Aja (Piranha/The Hills Have Eyes remakes) was in negotiations to direct the film. Alexandre Aja has yet to make an original American film. Since making his way to the states following the success of 2003's High Tension, Aja has directed The Hills Have Eyes, Mirrors, and Piranha, three films based on projects that have been previously made. Fortunately it looks like that part of his career is over. Going forward it seems to be all about adaptations. It began in December when he signed on to helm a feature version of Joe Hill's Horns, but Deadline says he's not stopping there. The project first came about last summer when Warner Bros. grabbed the rights to the title, which is an eight-part mini-series written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Warner Bros. are to turn Image Comics’ recent series Undying Love into a feature film with Chris Bender, Stephen L’Heaureux and J.C. Spink attached to produce.
Set in a mood-evoking and cinematic Hong Kong, ‘Undying Love’ presents a simple concept: hardened American ex-soldier, John Sargent, has fallen in love with a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart is the small issue of Mei being vampire. Yup… it’s another vamp love story.
Determined to ensure the possibility of a future together, Sargent sets out with Mei on a journey to free her from this curse and make her human once more. Further complicating their desperate situation, their unlikely human/vampire partnership has piqued the interests of other strange beings drawn from Chinese folklore where our hero must save Mei from the vampire who created her, and...

Just when we thought we were nearing the end of Hollywood.s vampire craze, with the Twilight saga drawing to a close and fewer undead projects in development, Warner Bros. dives back in to the blood-red waters for the potential adaptation of a graphic novel (no pun intended). The studio grabbed the rights to Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman.s Undying Love, an eight-part mini-series that Image Comics released earlier this year. Their story blends elements of traditional vampire lore with the bloody vengeance of the Hong Kong action genre, centering on a protagonist who must defeat countless enemies to win the heart of the woman he loves. The hero, if you can call him that, is John Sargent, a former U.S. soldier who falls for Mei, a vampire.
