Hello, everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to do an installment of my Phantom Thread series, but I’m finally back on the beat and this newest entry is quite an oddball in the realm of Phantom of the Opera-related adaptations. Directed by Gene Levitt and starring the likes of Peter Lawford, Jack Cassidy, Broderick Crawford, and Jackie Coogan (who most genre fans know from his role as Uncle Fester in the Addams Family TV series), this made-for-tv movie first aired on CBS in February 1974 and features a mysterious masked entity who is stalking the backlot of Worldwide Films as the studio prepares to sell the property off to the highest bidder.
And while there’s a lot of unevenness to The Phantom of Hollywood that makes its plotting feel choppy at times, as someone who adores the history of Old Hollywood, I...

The long goodbye has started for NCIS actress Pauley Perrette. TV’s most beloved forensic scientist happily tweeted out that she has completed her last scene on the show, which airs May 8.
No details were revealed on the nature of quirky Perrette character Abby Sciuto’s last scene, but Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, Emily Wickersham and Wilmer Valderrama evidently are present, judging from the tweet.
Producers have promised Perrette isn’t leaving NCIS after a decade and a half without a “special send-off,” according to executive producers George Schenck and Frank Cardea.

Recently, CBS put out a news article on their website revealing that we’re about to see a new female agent join the NCIS crew for the upcoming season 15. It turns out that the show has decided to hire actress Maria Bello to portray an NCIS agent that was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army and served two tours in Afghanistan. Their article didn’t reveal the character’s name. So, I guess we’ll have to wait until later on or until she finally arrives on the show to get that intel. Adding to the character’s description, they said, “After joining NCIS, the character built her reputation as the agency's premier forensic psychologist. Unlike the other agents, she can second-guess and challenge Gibbs. So, there will be friction but also mutual respect. She is a positive force, mischievous and at times, acerbic. They say she will...

Shout! Factory is always ready to pounce on a great opportunity. They show their smarts again by following up Warner Home Video's release of Westworld on Blu-ray with their very own high definition version of its 1976 sequel, Futureworld. Although the film is considered by many to be a poor excuse for a sequel,it has its own cult followers who are more than happy to see it getting an upgrade.
After the tragic deaths of several guests at the hands of robots in Westworld, Delos decides to invite reporters Tracy and Chuck to the rebuilt resort. Delos representatives want to prove to the public that their new vactioning spots are completely safe and their robots are under control and harmless. As Tracy and Chuck investigate Futureworld, they begin to suspect there's something sinister behind Delos' welcoming embrace.
Judging Futureworld on its own merits, I found it to be a...

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 17: “Prime Suspect”
Written by George Schenck and Frank Cardea
Directed by James Whitmore, Jr.
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
The entirety of this episode is a balancing act: maintaining the heart of the matter in the midst of a complex series of constructed events. You have Gibbs juggling two cases, each with its own set of unusual circumstances, Director Vance’s return as head of the agency, the introduction of an “old friend” of Abby’s, but most importantly, the return of Probationary Agent Ned Dorneget.
Because the team is already hard at work on a case when the show opens at Gibbs’ local barbershop, the first case concerning money missing from a military base doesn’t have a chance to present itself in the usual fashion that engages viewers from the start. It simply sets up the scenario that requires Tony and Dorneget...

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 10: “You Better Watch Out”
Written by George Schenck & Frank Cardea
Directed by Tony Wharmby
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
No one wants to feel left out, especially during the holiday season. A simple sense of belonging is part of what comprise the Christmas spirit. So it’s only natural that NCIS partakes in the tradition of devoting an episode to the time of year when the desire for unity, grace, and compassion are in the forefront of our minds and the fulfillment of those wishes warm our hearts. Robert Wagner guest stars and kicks off the festivities in a merry fashion, dropping by to make amends and start the new year off right.
It’s hard to tell who is having more fun: Robert Wagner, playing the father to Michael Weatherly’s character, Tony; or the the character Wagner plays, who delights in every visit with the team.

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 5: “The Namesake”
Written by George Schenck and Frank Cardea
Directed by Arvin Brown
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
NCIS has given its audience numerous glances into the make-up of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, each one brief but hefty with emotional detail (“Heartland” still ranks high on the list). In fact, most viewers can all but read his mind by now. Despite the many episodes that have worked to fill out what started as a blank slate, “The Namesake” offers even more insight with another genuine look into the past. Serving as more than a simple explanation for Gibbs’ name, it steps away from the present to personalize a lifetime of grief and elaborate on the dividing effects of love.
The death of a petty officer in a stolen Ferrari takes center stage as the case of the week. Discovering the murder weapon at the crime scene,...

NCIS Preview: The Explosive Arc To the Season 9 Finale Continues Tonight
NCIS continues its explosive climb to the May 15 finale of Season 9. The four-episode arc started by showing that, even after nine years, there is much left to explore about the NCIS team. The first installment in the arc, "Rekindled", explained how eternal frat boy, Tony Dinozzo, (Michael Weatherly) became a cop.
The "Rekindled" episode featuring Dinozzo saving a child from a fire was as emotionally combustable as the fiery bomb material, thermite, that is the thread connecting the arc. Weatherly's poignant portrayal of a man whose life found meaning in the screams of a child is a far cry from the class-clown-exterior schtick he uses to razz his team. Dinozzo opened a painful vein for McGee (Sean Murray) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) that is not revealed often to his NCIS teammates.
