Polish filmmaker Jan Komasa, who scored a best international Oscar nomination earlier this year for “Corpus Christi,” will direct “Anniversary,” a drama of social apocalypse.
“Anniversary” will be produced by Nick Wechsler and Chockstone Pictures partners Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz. Wechsler and the Schwartzes are no strangers to dark and edgy projects — they have collaborated on such films as “The Road” and “The Counselor.”
“I’m working on an intimate project about my most personal nightmare — a group of people who love each other being challenged by a devastating and inevitable force … a social virus,” said Komasa, whose most recent film, “The Hater,” which dealt with the dark underbelly of social media, won the best international narrative feature prize at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was also released in Poland in March but its successful theatrical run was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lori Rosene-Gambino is scripting “Anniversary.

Esteemed filmmaker Brian De Palma has lined up an adaptation of Sascha Arango’s The Truth and Other Lies as his next project, according to Deadline.
Pitched as a black comedy, Arango will pen the screenplay, flanked by producers Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz and Wechsler. It’s a tale that centers on one Henry Hayden, a seemingly genuine author and all-round stand-up guy who has carved out a living as a writer.
Little does the literature world know that it’s actually his wife that penned the novels that shot him to stardom, and complications begin to arise thick and fast when the identity of Henry’s mistress is revealed – and to add fuel to the fire, she’s also pregnant.
Here’s a synopsis of Arango’s source material:
Henry Hayden seems like someone you might admire, or even come to think of as a friend. A famous bestselling author.

Producers: 2929 Productions’ Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner, Ben Cosgrove, Chockstone Pictures’ Paula Mae and Steve Schwartz, Nick Wechsler
U.S. Distributor: Rights available
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Tony Jones, Rhys Ifans
While we were expecting Susanne Bier’s latest, a return to English language filmmaking after her 2007 Halle Berry starring Things We Lost In the Fire, to bow in 2013, it looks like this will be pushed into this year due to the oversaturated Jennifer Lawrence/Bradley Cooper market. This was meant their first project together post Silver Linings, but it looks like we’ll have to be happy with American Hustle instead, this season. Meanwhile, Bier has been on a roll herself since winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film with In a Better World. She’s several other irons in the fire currently, but look for this to be her next release.

Last night we were in attendance at a rather special premiere – to mark the release of the forthcoming Ridley Scott thriller, The Counsellor. In a busy Leicester Square, we had the wonderful opportunity of speaking to some of the cast and crew, including lead stars Michael Fassbender and Penelope Cruz, as well as producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz.
The film, which is out in cinemas this coming November, also features the likes of Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz. The screenplay was the first to come from renowned author Cormac McCarthy (The Road, No Country For Old Men) – and he was main focus of most of our conversations – which you can watch below.

Veteran screenwriter Lem Dobbs ("Dark City," "The Limey," "The Company You Keep") has been hired to pen the script for the film adaptation of Frederick Forsyth's latest thriller novel "The Kill List".
"Snow White and the Hunstman" director Rupert Sanders is still onboard to helm the project which Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz ("The Counselor") are set to produce.
The story follows a U.S. Special Forces agent tasked with tracking down a powerful terrorist in a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game.
Forsyth penned such legendary works as "The Day of the Jackal," "The Odessa File" and "The Dogs of War" which all saw film adaptations. 'Kill List' though would mark the first adaptation of a Forsyth novel since 1987's "The Fourth Protocol" starring Michael Caine and a young Pierce Brosnan.

Taglined with "Sin is a Choice," this new Swedish poster for Ridley Scott's The Counselor is lackluster, and well, quite boring, unlike what I would expect the film to be. The top notch cast of the 20th Century Fox thriller includes Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz, getting an October 25th, 2013 release date. Others on board include John Leguizamo, Goran Visnjic and Bruno Ganz. The film written by Cormac McCarthy, is produced by Steve Schwartz, Nick Wechsler and Paula Mae Schwartz. Catch the latest poster below the synopsis, and see previous additions to the image gallery under that. Last month, producers Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz, and Nick Wechsler pre-emptively acquired the rights to the as-yet-unpublished Frederick Forsyth espionage thriller The Kill List. Losing no time, they have already found a director to helm the project. Rupert Sanders, director of Snow White and the Huntsman, and an avowed fan of Forsyth’s books, has been brought on to direct the movie. In addition to selecting a director, the producers are also already meeting with writers to start adapting the novel.
A former journalist, Frederick Forsyth is known for his meticulously researched, highly technical, realistic novels about politics, espionage, and crime. Here’s a summary for the upcoming book:
In Virginia, there is an agency bearing the bland name of Technical Operations Support Activity, or Tosa. Its one mission is to track, find, and kill those so dangerous to the United States that they are on a short document known as the Kill List.

Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders has signed on to direct The Kill List, based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth.
Sanders is a big fan for Forsyth’s work. Here he talks about why he chose The Kill List:
“Day Of The Jackal, Odessa File and The Dogs Of War are three of the finest works of modern espionage. It is an incredible privilege to work from Forsyth’s new novel The Kill List. It is a thrilling read and frighteningly accurate. It immerses us in the shadowy worlds of terrorists, spies, private contractors, Us and UK special forces. It spans an epic, international world and delves deep into the psychology of its two main characters – ‘the hunter’ – a Us Special Forces Tracker and ‘the hunted’ an extreme fundamentalist terrorist. Forsyth’s depth of research and authenticity creates a vivid and frightening story – a nightmare scenario that is all too possible.

The Open Road Films release hits theaters on March 29th, 2013, looking for a big opening under the helm of In Time director Andrew Niccol. Also with William Hurt, Frances Fisher, Chandler Canterbury and Boyd Holbrook, The Host was published in 2008, and was #1 on The New York Times Bestseller List for 26 weeks. Niccol also adapts the screenplay for the film produced by Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz. This is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured,...
