The news came in today that music icon Tina Turner has died at the age of 83. Fans all over the world are hitting music sites to listen to and remember this incredible singer who has given us decades of hits, from "What's Love Got to Do With It?" to "Proud Mary" and "The Best," just to name a few. But one of Turner's performances graced the soundtrack to the 1995 James Bond film "GoldenEye" starring Pierce Brosnan, kicking off an entirely new era for 007.
The song -- also entitled "GoldenEye" -- features Turner at her best, and the simplicity of the music video, helmed by prolific video director Jake Scott (son of Sir Ridley Scott), is powerful. The glamorous Turner appears in a stunning white dress and belts out the tune in her gorgeous voice, telling a pretty dark story as she does so. The whole thing is intercut...

Berlin, Feb 16 (Ians) Berlin Film Festival jury President Kristen Stewart doesn’t buy the talk that movies are dead. At a press conference in Germany on Thursday afternoon to commemorate the launch of the 73rd annual Berlinale, she declared that cinema will live forever, reports ‘Variety’.
“Take a quick glance at your rear view mirror,” said Stewart, taking questions from reporters, according to ‘Variety’. “We have never stopped telling each other stories.”
She then nodded to headlines about weakened international box office receipts as a result of the pandemic. “How much it costs, obviously like we’re headed towards oblivion on that one. I also think that there’s a sort of, like, vital, desperate need in all of us to create something. And yeah, I think when you start really fixating on, like, the industry, it’s easy to be like, ‘Oh, God, it’s all falling apart!’ But...

Sean Penn’s recently launched production company Projected Picture Works has signed on to produce the political thriller Killers & Diplomats alongside Mill House Motion Pictures.
The film from writers Michael Nourse and John Tyler McClain, whose screenplay was featured on the 2021 Black List, is based on an article by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Raymond Bonner. Based on a true story, it picks up after four American missionary women are raped and murdered in 1980 El Salvador, following a young U.S. diplomat who cracks the case by cultivating an improbable source — risking everything to gather the key evidence.
Pic was developed by Mill House Motion Pictures’ Jordan Foley and Jonathan Rosenthal, who will produce alongside Penn and his fellow Projected Picture Works founders, John Ira Palmer and John Wildermuth. Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2021, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
As 2021 careens recklessly to a close, it seems mentally beneficial to emphasize the positives.
On a personal level, the opportunity to return to cinemas, especially with my children, felt wondrous. And while I was unable to attend the Toronto International Film Festival in person for the second-straight year, having the chance to virtually cover TIFF, Sundance, SXSW, Hot Docs, Tribeca, New York, and Chicago in the last twelve months was a genuine pleasure. It was through these festivals that I saw many of the films on the list below.
Just outside my top fifteen are a number of films that delighted and enthralled me: Joel Coen’s marvelous Tragedy of Macbeth; Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s triumphant Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy and Drive My Car; Edgar Wright’s...

Exclusive: The shocking success of Squid Game has created an appetite for survival projects. Tristar Pictures just preemptively acquired Ultra, a survival thriller spec script by Colin Bannon. Sugar 23’s Sukee Chew is producing.
They are keeping the details under wraps, and Bannon wrote this well before Squid Game. But sources tell me that the protagonist is an ultra marathon runner involved in a deadly race. Bannon is fast becoming the go-to writer for survival thriller/horror projects, having previously sold his Black List script First Ascent to Netflix in a frenzied bidding war. Jake Scott is directing. The plan is to put Ultra into production by the middle of next year.
Chew most recently joined Sugar23 and before that she founded Hopscotch Pictures. Her other projects include the Helen Keller drama Helen & Teacher written by Laetitia Mikles and Wash Westmoreland with Millie Simmonds and Rachel Brosnahan starring, and Westmoreland set to direct.

There are multiple moments during Oasis Knebworth 1996, the hugely entertaining documentary revisiting the Britpop legends’ most gargantuan concert, when present-day interviewees remark how lovely it was that the show occurred pre-iPhone, Facebook, etc. Yes, it is the “Not a cell phone in sight. Just people living in the moment” meme brought to life. And in this instance it’s hard to disagree. The audience was not littered with screens. There were no social media platforms overflowing with attendee gloating. Indeed, the Internet of 1996 was glitchy and unavailable to many. Ticket-purchasing involved waiting in long lines outside record stores or tying up the home phone line while waiting (impatiently) on hold.
As Oasis Knebworth 1996 vividly details, just getting to a concert like Knebworth was not easy. Even more difficult? Finding modern bands with enough popularity to headline such a location. Knebworth House was the domain of Monsters of Rock () like the Rolling Stones,...

Kenyan distance runner Eliud Kipchoge was born in 1984, when the world record in the men’s marathon stood at 2:08:05. Today, he holds the world record at that distance, having pared the time all the way down to 2:01:39. That achievement, not to mention back to back gold medals at the Tokyo and Rio Olympics, have inspired many to declare Kipchoge the Goat (greatest of all time) in the marathon.
Kipchoge is known for his humility, but when pressed about what makes him better than his competitors, he concedes, “I think the difference between me and other marathoners is the professionalism. I am a real professional as far as running’s concerned,” he tells Deadline. “I follow what is required in sport. I really work hard. Even if I don’t feel like waking up I still wake up and just push myself. That’s what I mean by professionalism.

It’s been nearly 12 years since Oasis last played live, but that hasn’t stopped the beloved U.K. band from burnishing its legacy with such projects as the 2016 documentary “Oasis: Supersonic.” That film began and ended with Oasis’ career-defining, box office record-breaking 1996 U.K. concerts in front of more than 250,000 people at Knebworth, which will now receive their own full documentary treatment this fall.
“Oasis Knebworth 1996” will arrive in theaters around the world on Sept. 23, with tickets going on sale on Aug. 10. Blessed with the full cooperation of Oasis’ famously feuding brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, who serve as executive producers, the project was directed by Jake Scott, who helmed the video for Oasis’ 1995 single “Morning Glory,” Scott previously directed memorable ‘90s rock videos such as R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees” and Soundgarden’s “Fell on Black Days,” among many others.
