Oh, directors and their wacky threats to quit filmmaking. We rarely believe them. Case in point: Kevin Smith. The loud and proud filmmaker announced that he finished a new script for a horror film he's calling "Tusk." The movie is currently in pre-production. "Tusk" started out as a joke on Smith's Smodcast series, but fans rallied to see the director bring it to life. Smith was inspired by a classified ad from a man searching for a lodger. The ad read:
"To take on the position as my lodger you must be prepared to wear the walrus suit for approximately two hours each day (in practice, this is not two hours every day — I merely state it here so you are able to have a clear idea of the workload). Whilst in the walrus costume you must be a walrus — there must be no speaking in a human voice, and...

Looks like Abigail Breslin can put her "Zombieland" knowledge of the undead to use: the actress is set to become a zombie herself in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film "Maggie."
Breslin will play the titular character, Schwarzenegger's daughter, who is infected by a zombie virus that has been sweeping the nation. The story, based on a Black List script by John Scott, will focus on Schwarzenegger helping Breslin come to terms with her diagnosis.
Though it's a bit of a stretch picturing the 66-year-old Schwarzenegger as 17-year-old Breslin's father, "Maggie"'s Black List association -- reserved for the top unproduced screenplays in Hollywood -- lends the film some credibility. Here's hoping the movie can live up to its promise.
"Maggie," directed by Henry Hobson, is set to start production this fall.

The first UK murder trial filmed for TV will air tonight (July 9) on Channel 4.
The programme, called The Murder Trial, documents the Edinburgh High Court case of Nat Fraser who is accused of killing his wife after she decided to divorce him in 1998.
Speaking about the risks of televising trials, the show's executive producer Kate Barker told Radio Times: "It depends on the case. We've been quite careful to make sure we targeted the right ones.
"There are obviously a whole raft of trials we're not going near – where there are vulnerable witnesses, where there are children involved, rape cases, gang-land cases. We're not asking for a free-for-all."
Producers spent three years convincing the opposition and judicial system to gain access for the programme.
John Scott, the defendant's QC, said: "Our main argument was that cameras might affect the way witnesses gave their evidence. And there were also representations...

Based on a highly sought after script, zombie flick Maggie is the latest film on Arnold Schwarzenegger's slate...
Arnold Schwarzenegger has certainly wasted little time in re-establishing his acting career after his lengthy break whilst being the governor of California. He has added yet another film to his busy slate in the form of zombie movie Maggie.
The film is based on a Black List script by John Scott, and will be helmed by commercials director Henry Hobson. Maggie follows the experiences of a father whose daughter is slowly turning into a zombie.
Chloe Grace Moretz was linked to the role of Maggie at one stage but recently dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, so the focus will no doubt turn to finding a suitable replacement to star opposite Arnie.
More on Maggie when its available.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Fringe Round Table!
This week, staffers Sean McKenna, Carla Day and Carissa Pavlica - as well as Fringe fan Nick Shere - attempt to make sense out of what could have been a senseless death in "Anomaly Xb-6783746," while also debating the return of fan favorite Michael Cerveris as Donald. What a wonder some hair will do.
-------------------------------
Nina's swan song: your thoughts?
Carla: An honorable sacrifice. What a shift Nina made from her somewhat questionable motives when we first met her to being a truly incredible woman in the end. Despite her dismal future if she lived, it was still a sacrifice for the cause and for those who became her family. With each life lost, it becomes more urgent for the team's plan to be successful and for these losses to mean something.
Nick: I thought it was apt. Each character...

Looks like Natalie Portman is coming back to Hollywood in a big, big way. THR reports that the actress will star in and produce Lynne Ramsay‘s first post-We Need to Talk About Kevin project, an intriguing Western that comes complete with a Black List script. Brian Duffield penned the film, Jane Got a Gun, which ended up on last year’s Black List of best unproduced screenplays (that list included scripts like Graham Moore’s The Imitation Game, Andrew Baldwin’s The Outsider, and John Scott’s Maggie also popped up on the list). The film is focused on “a woman whose outlaw husband returns home barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds. She is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm when her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job.” The film has reportedly spark a bit of a bidding war...

In her young career as an actress Chloe Moretz has played both a vampire and a werewolf. She's now in negotiations to play a zombie in a film called Maggie. So it looks like she will complete the monster movie trifecta. Paddy Considine is also in talks to join the film project.
The film will be directed by commercial director Henry Hobson from a Black List script written by John Scott. According to Variety the film is set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse, and the "story concerns a father's unconditional love for his daughter." Considine would play the father, and Moretz would play his zombie daughter. There's no other details on the story, but I imagine the dad will be trying to keep her zombie daughter safe, and keep her out of trouble. Or hell! Maybe they're both zombies and he's still trying to take care of her.

Pop quiz, hotshot: it’s the zombie apocalypse, civilization as we know it has fallen, and to top it off, your 16-year old daughter Maggie just got bit and is slowly turning into a zombie. What do you do? What do you Do? Well, if you’re Paddy Considine, then you love her unconditionally anyway. Without, you know, letting her bite you, that is. That’s the premise of screenwriter John Scott’s “Maggie”, which is set “against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse.” Inferno Entertainment is currently selling the film in Cannes, and is looking at ever-busy teen Chloe Moretz to play the titular young girl who is slowly but surely succumbing to her undead, er “condition”. Considine is also in talks to play the father, with commercial director Henry Hobson set to make his feature film debut on the picture. “Maggie” surfaced last year, with “Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov...

Now I don’t know if you believe in omens, I don’t even know if I believe them myself, but if ever there was a bad omen for the continued future of Fringe, then have a listen to this strange statistic:
Last week, Episode 15 reached an all-time ratings low for the series, with only 2.8 million Us viewers. Now you could blame this on the opening weekend of the Hunger Games, but we all know Fringe has been sliding slowly down the ratings chart since it was moved to the Friday night ‘death slot’. I don’t have the figures yet, but I suspect last night’s episode offered little improvement. As you’re aware if you’ve seen the episode, it was a re-hash of sorts of an old episode from Season 1. An identical case from Peter’s (Joshua Jackson) timeline re-emerges and takes on...

Brynne Edelsten always knew that her husband Geoffrey had fathered a secret love child, it has been reported. Australian medical entrepreneur Geoffrey, who married former Dancing with the Stars contestant Brynne in 2009, was alleged to be the father of 22-year-old Sydney man Matthew Beard by his ex-wife Leanne Edelsten earlier this week. Leanne said that Geoffrey got former patient Isabel Beard pregnant in 1989 and took a paternity test in 1994 that proved he was 99.7% likely to be the boy's father. She also claimed that Brynne had no idea of Matthew's existence and would be shocked by the news. The Edelstens' spokesperson John Scott has now told The Daily Telegraph: "Brynne and Geoffrey have no secrets. They are well and truly aware of each other's (more)...

Fringe Review, Season 4, Episode 5: “Novation”
Written by J. R. Orci and Graham Roland
Directed by Paul Holahan
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
This week, on Fringe: Walter reminisces, Peter LoJacks a shapeshifter, and Olivia experiences déjà vu.
The first four episodes of this season have been leading to this point, Peter’s return, and after last week’s preemption due to the Game Six heroics of the St. Louis Cardinals, anticipation for “Novation” was high. Few episodes could live up to this hype, but even putting that aside, this week’s installment is underwhelming. It’s not a weak episode- plenty happens to move along the various story threads and we get some nice character beats with Olivia and Walter, but after a spectacular build up, Fringe seems to have bobbled, though not dropped, the ball.
A few major questions have been answered. Olivia and Nina’s relationship is illuminated,...

"One Night in October. No, this week's Fringe episode title was clearly not referring to an evening from the month in which it aired. Rather, it referenced the one simple night when a life was changed.
Let's dissect it below, shall we?
Oh, the possibilities!
As we get to work (weekly it would seem) with both universes, the possibilities of nature versus nurture and choice versus circumstance provide us with endless story possibilities. Following where these differences can take us is going to be a real mind frak.
The subtleties driving the case of the professor over here and the serial killer over there (alternates) were downright shocking, really. I hate to think that anyone who has a morbid interest (raising hand) in serial killers is just a few dead pigeons and a mutilated dog away from making a move to the dark side.
There is so much material to run with this season,...

20th Century Fox has scored the film rights to Isaac Asimov's 1954 novel "The Caves of Steel" reports Deadline.
Set three millennia in the future, the story is set in a time when humans on an overcrowded Earth have grown increasingly paranoid of 'spacers', humans on the rich and more spacious outer planets whose society has grown apart from those on Earth.
When a reformist "spacer" ambassador is murdered, a detective pairs up with a robot disguised as a human to solve the crime.
Henry Hobson directs from a script adaptation by John Scott the Third. the duo are currently in pre-production on the teen zombie girl tale "Maggie".

Olivia Dunham's life, portrayed by Anna Torv, was forged in adversity. Like many strong female characters today, hers was not a childhood of happy, shiny times. The protector instinct firmly entrenched in her soul, Olivia graduates college with degrees in criminology and psychology, joins the Marines as a special investigator. She proves herself a determined investigator and eventually joins the FBI under the command of Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick). Sarah Ferguson has had enough of talking about her 2010 News of the World scandal - she stormed out of a TV interview in Australia after a reporter quizzed her about the bogus cash-for-royal-access deal.
The Duchess of York was caught on camera trying to set up a business deal with an undercover News of the World journalist in return for access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew.
Fergie has publicly talked about her disgust over her actions, and she called on Oprah Winfrey last year to help her rebuild her shattered reputation.
But the topic was a no-go area last week (ends07Aug11) when the former royal sat down with Michael Usher for a taped 60 Minutes interview in Australian.
In a trailer for the upcoming episode, an angry Ferguson appears to shut down the chat after she is asked to watch the News of the World footage. She demands that the footage is deleted as she leaves the room.
The Duchess did eventually complete the interview, but her manager John Scott is furious over the techniques used by 60 Minutes executives.
He says, "We had gone through all the questions and subject matter beforehand and filmed all the walking in the park footage before we sat down. She did walk out when she was ambushed - no, it was entrapment - but, after cooling down, she said to me, 'F**k them, let's do this', and she did, but it was a banal interview and her demeanour reflected that."
But the show's producer Hamish Thomson insists he's baffled by the upset, insisting it was made clear to Ferguson that Usher would quiz her on the subject: "She agreed to talk about the issue, as she has already extensively done, so it certainly wasn't entrapment."
Ferguson also threatened to walk out of an online chat with Time magazine reporter Belinda Luscombe last month when she initially refused to avoid questions about the tabloid scandal.

Sarah Ferguson has walked out of an Australian television interview, as seen in the preview video below. The Duchess of York, who used to be married to Prince Andrew, stormed off the 60 Minutes set after reporter Michael Usher asked her to watch old News of the World footage of her offering to sell access to her ex-husband. Ferguson's manager John Scott said that he called the show's producer Hamish Thomson earlier this week, demanding that the walk-out was not shown on TV. Spoiler Alert! Do Not Read Unless You Have Seen, "The Last Sam Weiss"
I think everyone here can agree that this last episode of Fringe had quite the startling ending. The promo's were even more startling. Walter speaking out of half of his mouth, Olivia's hair changed again, Broyles's eye not looking so good, a daughter perhaps, and then right out of the book of Lost, a coffin with no name. Now if you're a fan of theories, read on. If not and you would just like to participate in the poll simply scroll down and vote.
Alright over the seasons Fringe has showed us the difference between characters in many different ways; hair color, hair style, clothing; etc. This promo tried two of those on Olivia for us.
Her hair looks different and her clothing isn't the way she normally dresses. In the, "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" Peter remarks that she only ever wears black.

After a heated auction for the spec script, Timur Bekmambetov has won rights to produce inventive zombie title, Maggie.
You may have had your zombie fill for the time being, especially with movement on World War Z finally getting underway, but hear us out: The plot tracks the titular, 16-year old girl from middle America who has fallen prey to a zombie infection. The twist? Maggie’s transformation takes six weeks, leaving the film to focus entirely around the emotional impact of her situation.
The script was penned by John Scott 3 (we’re not sure if we’re supposed to pronounce the “three” part) a Nasa satellite programmer, with visual effects maestro Henry Hobson (Rango) coming on board to direct. And with a six-figure budget (somewhere between $4 and $8 million), there’s every indication that this will be a nicely grounded take on the genre. Production begins later this year.

Just when you thought zombie movies were all the same, an idea like Maggie comes out of left field and surprises us all. The spec script for the film was recently involved in a bidding war, which Timur Bekmambetov eventually won. The story comes from John Scott 3 and tells the story of Maggie, a girl who has been infected with the zombie virus. But unlike normal zombies who turn in minutes, this strain of the virus turns its victimes into full-blown zombies after six months.
The film will follow Maggie as she spends her last months as a human with her family. Henry Hobson, who’s done work on the hit TV series The Walking Dead, has signed on to make his directorial debut with Maggie.

I don’t get it. People are always ragging on the overload of vampire movies that are produced every year but when it comes to zombies, there’s little complaint. It’s not like there are any fewer. Never mind the low budget/no budget titles but also the long list of big Hollywood zombie movies currently in production.
Russian helmer Timur Bekmambetov is leading the charge with one of the biggest of the Hollywood titles Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but he loves zombies so much lined up work on another project featuring the undead.
According to Deadline, Bekmambetov has come out the winner of a bidding war yesterday with a spec script for a teen zombie drama titled Maggie. The project, which will work with a budget of between $4 and $8 million dollars (since when is this microbudget?), comes from award winning writer John Scott 3 and will be directed by...

One of the reasons why I like the Frank Darabont-produced “The Walking Dead” on AMC so much is that it toes the line between fast-moving and the traditional lumbering zombies. They’re not crawling-slow, but they’re not running around like speed freaks, either. I think that’s a pretty good idea — a common ground between the new generation of zombies and the old. John Scott’s spec script “Maggie”, which was just picked up by the increasingly prolific producer Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) after a “spirited” bidding war, will ditch the whole “you get infected, you turn” timetable of past zombie movies. Now instead of instantly turning, or turning within a few hours or days, the lead character, 16-year old Maggie, will undergo a six month transformation from the living to the undead after being bitten by a zombie. That sounds novel and all, and I’m glad to...

Wake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you. It's late September, and you've already eaten half the school. I know I keep you amused, but I feel I'm being used. Hobson was also just hired by Sony to direct its campaign for the PlayStation 3 series Resistance.

Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov recently won the rights to a new zombie genre movie script called Maggie written by John Scott 3. This project went through a pretty crazy auction today between six bidders.
Apparently the reason everyone wanted a piece of this script action is because there are some “inventive twists on the popular zombie genre.” The film can also be made for a fairly low budget of $4 to $8 million dollars. I think it’s funny that Hollywood has finally has realized they don’t have to spend $50 to $100 million dollars to make a good movie. Studios can make more movies this way, and make a better return. The film will be produced by Bekmambetov, and will be directed by first time feature film director Henry Hobson.

Timur Bekmambetov has won a spec auction for Maggie, a script that sparked a spirited auction today, with six bidders. Bekmambetov will produce a film that has a script by John Scott 3, and vfx wiz Henry Hobson set to direct, reports Deadline. "Maggie is a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie." Much the way that Danny Boyle changed the lumbering zombie stereotype by speeding up the undead in 28 Days Later, Maggie changes the lightning quick infection period evident in most zombie films, where victims become zombies in minutes. It will take six months for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family. While George A. Romero already explored the slow-burn turn, a six month window really adds to the drama and intensity of the horror. What say you?...

Exclusive: Timur Bekmambetov has won a spec auction for Maggie, a script that sparked a spirited auction today, with six bidders. Bekmambetov will produce a film that has a script by John Scott 3, and vfx wiz Henry Hobson set to direct. Why did so many bidders spark to the script? Aside from offering some inventive twists on the popular zombie genre, Maggie is a blueprint for a genre movie that can be made for between $4 million and $8 million. That budget range has suddenly become highly desirable for distributors looking to make genre films in the mold of Paranormal Activity. Perhaps one of the biggest draws to Fringe is the marvelous characterization, which is incredibly strong for a genre procedural. One draw is, naturally, the burgeoning romance between the show's two young leads, Peter Bishop and Olivia Dunham. Dunham, who was romantically linked with Christopher Chance John Scott in the pilot episode, took the long road in getting over her former fiance's betrayal and death. When she finally left behind his memory at the midway point of the season, there was a bit of a spark of chemistry between the two, which grew over the following season and nearly resulted in a kiss between the two in the episode "Jacksonville." That was, until Olivia discovered that he was from the alternate universe. After Peter went to the other universe, Olivia followed him, and upon finding him, kissed him. It was an emotional payoff to two seasons, and would have been...

Everyone's favorite off-screen "Fringe" couple Anna Torv and Mark Valley have split, confirms People. The couple met on the set of the Fox sci-fi show in 2008 and married quietly over the holidays of the same year. It appears they ended their marriage just as quietly and there is no word as to why the couple split.
Mark Valley's character John Scott was killed off early on in Season 1 of "Fringe," but he continued to appear in Olivia Dunham's (Anna Torv) hallucinations and/or dreams throughout the rest of the season.
Valley now stars on Fox's action series "Human Target" with Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley, while Torv is still starring on "Fringe" alongside Joshua Jackson and John Noble. The "Fringe" plot is thickening with every passing episode, so if you are behind on the show, you should get caught up before the Season 2 finale.

If you take the action hero violence of 24 and mix in a little of the sarcastic humor of House, you've basically got Human Target, Fox's new show which is set to premiere on Sunday, January 17, at 8/7c. The show, which stars Mark Valley (Fringe) as Christopher Chance, the titular Human Target, is Fox's attempt to mix together some of its more successful elements into one big megashow. And they kinda, sorta pull it off. Barely.
The thing you need to know when going into Human Target is that it is not deep television. In the pilot episode, there are no real gray characters. There are good guys and bad guys, and not much else. There's little depth and even less characterization, but you don't care because you're having such a damn good time.
