Veteran television executive Lindsey Springer has boarded Media Res as the studio’s new president of scripted series, Variety has learned exclusively.
“Lindsey’s rich experience, deep relationships, taste, poise and savvy make her the ideal executive to spearhead Media Res’ next phase of growth,” said Media Res founder Michael Ellenberg. “We look forward to Lindsey collaborating closely with our creative and network partners to build and shepherd our ambitious slate.”
Springer most recently served as president of Genre Arts, where she oversaw development, sales, production and post-production for the production company behind “Bates Motel,” “The Strain,” and “Colony.” As an executive producer on Amazon Prime Video’s “Jack Ryan,” she guided the series from early development to global launch, and more recently served as exec producer on Netflix’s “Locke & Key,” which has been renewed for a second season.

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

On Monday Fox unveiled their primetime slate for the 2013-2014 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The network announced 5 new comedies, 4 new dramas, a first event series, and an animated comedy from Seth MacFarlane.
Some of today’s most inventive directors working in film have smoothly segued from motion pictures to series TV and their new shows have found a home at Fox. What caught my attention were the sci-fi, fantasy shows bearing the names of Abrams, Shyamalan, Kurtzman and Orci.
Among the network’s lineup is M. Night Shyamalan’s new event series Wayward Pines. Set to premiere in 2014 and based on the best-selling novel, “Pines,” by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines is an intense, mind-bending thriller in which nothing is what it seems. Also on the Fox schedule is the...

Atta Fox, well done. They have announced their new series pickups, and they include two shows we’ve been following. In fact, they are two of the series we were most excited about, so Woo Hoo! Both come from former Fringe executive producers, and one features a favorite movie star, whose latest movie premieres next week…
That would be Karl Urban, Star Trek‘s Bones, and his show is the project formerly known as Inhuman, then just Human, and now/currently Almost Human; it’s the buddy cop robot show. Executive producers are J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Fringe, etc etc) and J.H. Wyman (former Fringe showrunner).
The other is Sleepy Hollow, the modern-day retelling version we’ve been telling you about, from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers, Fringe). Here are the details from Fox, via Deadline:

Two projects that we’ve highlighted previously have been picked up by Fox for the upcoming fall season. Those would be Almost Human and Sleepy Hollow. They both feature a star studded creative team involved.
The recently titled Almost Human:
From Emmy Award-winning executive producer J.J. Abrams and creator/executive producer J.H. Wyman and starring Karl Urban, Michael Ealy and Emmy Award nominee Lili Taylor, Almost Human (working title) is an action-packed police drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. An unlikely connection is forged when a cop with an aversion to robots and a robot with unexpected emotional responses investigate cases in a brave new world. Almost Human (wt) is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The series is created by J.H. Wyman, who wrote the pilot. The TV Upfronts begin next week, but already the networks are making announcements to attract advertisers. Fox picked up four new shows, including one we've had our eyes on for a while: "Sleepy Hollow," directed by Len Wiseman. We have all the details and some early photos.
"Sleepy Hollow," from Star Trek team Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, finds Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) being resurrected to find a world on the brink of doom. Here's the official synopsis:
From co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the Star Trek and Transformers franchises, “Fringe”), the thrilling new action-adventure "Sleepy Hollow" is a modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic. Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and that he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a...

Today’s headline has got me in full geek mode. Karl Urban, who was a minor lead in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and who plays Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek films has just taken the starring role in the exciting action-drama pilot Fox is planning, which partners two cops, one human, one A.I.
This is the most exciting news yet for the untitled pilot to be delivered by J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman, whose previous collaboration was the series, Fringe. We announced it when we learned that Michael Ealy would rock the pilot as Dorian, a robot partner assigned to Karl Urban’s all too human character, John Kennex.
Also in the THR update was this delicious morsel. The working title for the pilot, which I really hope goes to a full series order, is “Human”. I like that a lot. It’s very simply,...

Fox is developing a very intriguing new drama series, which puts a futuristic spin on the classic buddy cop concept. There’s no word yet on the title of the new series, but it will follow a human police officer and his robot partner. J.J. Abrams is teaming with Fringe producer, J.H. Wyman to make this action fueled project a reality, and they’ve just made Common Law actor, Michael Ealy, one the show’s stars.
I must say, this one has me jumping up and down for joy. According to THR ,Ealy, who I’ve always said has very nice eyes, is the first person to be cast in the Fox show.
Ealy will play Dorian, the android partner of Lapd officer John Kennex. Dorian understands more about humanity than his human partner does. I’m quite sold on this idea. It sounds like a win to me.

A political career involves a great deal of compromise. Everybody wants a return on what they invest in, whether it's a bill, a policy, an appointment or a favor. Getting something for nothing isn't impossible, but it's more rare than a polite and insightful current-events discussion on cable news.
Don't take this as an insult -- it isn't meant as one -- but TV viewers aren't that different from political types: We want something in return for our investment of time. Despite its shiny credentials, however, "Veep" (10 p.m. Et Sunday, HBO) doesn't offer much in the way of rewards.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Selina Meyer, who is billed as a "rising star" of an unnamed party in HBO's press materials. It's hard to see how Selina rose very far -- to the office of vice-president, in fact -- given her inability to manage her chaotic staff, project leadership...

So, when can we expect the David Fincher-directed, Rooney Mara-starring remake?
I clearly jest, but it’s reported that Dragon Tattoo‘s Niels Arden Oplev and Noomi Rapace will get back together as director and star for Dead Man Down, which will also be led by Colin Farrell. The project is being sold by Im Global at this year’s American Film Market; Neil Moritz is producing through Original Films, as is writer J.H. Wyman for Frequency Films.
Farrell will be playing “Victor, right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City who is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Rapace), a crime victim seeking retribution.” Shooting on the film will begin in early 2012, making a release toward the end of next year a real possibility. At the same time, they could try and take advantage of the success seen by action films in the beginning of the year,...
