Paul McCartney messed up while singing The Beatles’ “Penny Lane” as a 1960s star looked on. She enjoyed watching him make a mistake. Interestingly, Paul and John Lennon wrote some of the star’s biggest hits.
Paul McCartney forgot an entire verse of The Beatles’ ‘Penny Lane’
During a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Paul was asked to name the last major mistake he made during a concert. “I don’t remember the last one,” he said. “But I had a show in Paris where I started off with the second verse of ‘Penny Lane’ instead of the first. It should have been ‘a barber showing photographs.’ So I thought, ‘I’ll swap the verses — do verse two, then verse one and we’ll go into the middle bit.’ But the band correctly thought, ‘He skipped verse one — we’ll go into the middle.’

Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight" was the big winner at the 25th Gotham Independent Film Awards. The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the child molestation in the Catholic church took home the Best Feature and Screenplay trophies. I love this film! It's ripe for melodrama but McCarthy wisely avoided that!
Another film I love that won big at the Gotham Awards is Sean Baker's "Tangerine." It took home the Audience award with Mya Taylor winning the Breakthrough Actor trophy.

Lionsgate and the world.s exhibitors were probably betting that nearly everyone who saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 would roll up to the finale.
How wrong they were -- and by a long shot. In Australia the finale of the franchise based on Suzanne Collins. novels rang up $9.8 million on 624 screens. That.s $2 million less than the debut of part 1 and Catching Fire.s $12.5 million opening in 2013.
Some exhibitors were theorizing that the Francis Lawrence-directed action fantasy was impacted by going against the second weekend of Spectre. That may be so although the Bond film plunged by 52 per cent to $5.4 million, scoring $20.6 million so far.
Another possible explanation is that some cinemagoers were so let down by part 1 they had no desire to see how the story ended. Or maybe it.s just that part 2 is bleak, too long and lacking the excitement and thrills of earlier editions.

Nabbing Best Actress, Screenplay, Breakthrough Director and Feature noms, Marielle Heller’s Diary of a Teenage Girl leads all Gotham Award nominations with four, while Carol is technically tied with a foursome of mentions as well. With a pre-win (Directors Tribute) accompanied by a trio of noms in the Best Feature, Screenplay and Actress categories, Todd Haynes’ drama will likely find xeroxed nom mentions for both the Indie Spirits and Oscars.
While Rick Alverson’s Entertainment and Sebastien Silva’s Nasty Baby are noticeably absent in what some consider a backhanded compliment of a ceremony, the noms for this year’s Gothams do have some wholeheartedly merited double nom mentions for the Safdie Bros.’ Heaven Knows What, Sean Baker’s Tangerine, Bill Pohlad’s Love & Mercy and Josh Mond’s James White. We’re not allergic to television, but for us Orange is the New Black’s Michael Chernus truly broke out at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, with the girlfriend stealer role in Jim Strouse’s People Places Things and as the generous giver and toker in Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America. THR reports that he is one of the last pegs in the Parts and Labor produced project from filmmaker Joshua Marston. The mostly indie actor joins the already cast supporting players Danny Glover, Kathy Bates and Azita Ghanizada. As previously reported, Rachel Weisz and Michael Shannon are toplining the project.

Well, now we know what this was all about. When it comes to retaliation, Gyp has got style. His decision to blow up Babette's Supper Club, complete with a Michael Bay-caliber explosion, no longer places him in the company of second-rate, forgettable gangsters. As he stated in an earlier episode, all business to him is personal, even if it isn't to Nucky. And now Gyp has evened the score by making this war plenty personal for his New Jersey enemy: Billie was one of the fatalities.

It is apparently acceptable these days for movies to be made from just about any basic concept. Toys, comic books, preteen novels – twenty years ago this would be called lazy writing. Today, it’s big business. Here is my list of the top ten things that may be worthwhile to see transformed into movies. Feel free to add your own - or roll your eyes.
With the release of Battleship, we are reaching the zenith of a new era in movie making that began 10 years ago with the first film adaptations of Harry Potter and Lord Of the Rings. This is the era when the big studios have all but abandoned developing new, original ideas. This is an era of endless sequels, prequels, book-to-franchise adaptations, comic book superheroes, video game adaptations, remakes…the list goes on. No staple of popular culture is safe.
Personally, I’ll take something original over...
