The Pixies have parted ways with bassist Paz Lenchantin after a decade-long run with the band. They’ll be joined by former Band of Skulls bassist Emma Richardson when they kick off a European tour on March 8 in Dublin, Ireland.
The news of Lenchantin’s exit from the group came via a curiously dry statement from the group. “We’re grateful for Paz’s many contributions,” they wrote, “and wish her all the very best going forward.”

Pixies have announce the departure of bassist Paz Lenchantin.
Lenchantin joined Pixies in 2014, replacing bassist Kim Shattuck. She subsequently appeared on three Pixies albums: 2016’s Head Carrier, 2019’s Beneath the Eyrie, and 2022’s Doggerel.
In a statement, Pixies said, “Lenchantin has exited the band to concentrate on her own projects. We are grateful for Paz’s contributions, and wish her all the best going forward.”
Update: In a statement provided to Rolling Stone, Lenchantin said her “departure is a bit of a surprise to me as it is to many, but it looks like they have a solid plan figured out which in turn has pushed me to move onwards onto new projects that I am excited about.”
To replace, Lenchantin, Pixies have recruited Emma Richardson, formerly of UK rock group Band of Skulls. Richardson will make her debut when Pixies kick off their 2024 tour in Dublin, Ireland on March 8th.

Billie Joe Armstrong added a power-pop spin to Kim Wilde’s 1981 hit “Kids in America” with the latest installment of his quarantine cover series “No Fun Mondays.” The frontman belts the track over distorted guitars that build from palm-muted chugging to surging chords.
The singer dedicated the track to “the one, the only Mike Dirnt,” Green Day’s bassist and his bandmate of over two decades. “Play this one loud just for him,” Armstrong wrote in the video’s caption. The clip features an animated unicorn bassist bouncing along as...

It’s finally time for the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, but what a time it’s been over the past few weeks, with the drama ramping up even more just before the show.
Music’s biggest night has turned into an embarrassment for the organization running it. This week saw more accusations from suspended CEO Deborah Dugan and an appearance on Good Morning America to air them; the barring of longtime Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer from performing on the show; the arrest of performer Yg, the rapper scheduled to appear in a tribute to Nipsey Hussle; and the quiet dropout of Taylor Swift, who was scheduled to be a surprise performer but now reportedly shunning the show because of its sexism.
Here’s the thing – the worst is yet to come as the Dugan legal battle plays out. It raises the question: who would be crazy enough to take the...

The courageous story of how Kim Shattack and The Muffs collaborated to produce their final album, No Holiday, is one of the great tales of perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles. Yahoo! Music’s Lyndsey Parker crafts the tale of how Shattuck, who suffered from Als and couldn’t move or talk near the end, still managed to direct her band mates and some hired guns toward the album’s completion.
Elsewhere, possible new music from Coldplay after a long hiatus, the death of a prominent executive and resignation of another, and a story of bullying by a famed coach and broadcaster on a rock legend surfaced.
This week in music:
The Muffs Final Album: Kim Shattuck, the frontwoman for The Muffs was died earlier this month at age 56, was battling Als (sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease) over her last two years. But she was determined to finish the band’s final album,...

After releasing their first song in nine years, the Pixies are on a roll. "Bagboy" is available for free download, and now the band is filling the hole left when co-founder and bass player Kim Deal announced her detarture from the band.
Oddly enough, her replacement is also named Kim. Kim Shattuck joins the band, after playing with The Pandoras in the 80s and founding indie rock group The Muffs, THR reports.
The new Pixies lineup is currently locked away in Los Angeles, working on new and old music, in preparation for a tour. They will be playing a handful of new songs on the road, along with more obscure Pixies tracks which haven't been included in their concerts before.
According to Black Francis, the Pixies front man, they have rehearsed around 80 songs, which will allow the band to change up the setlist throughout their tour. As for when you...
