Video Game Rating: 2.5/5.0
Chicago – Namco Bandai’s latest punch-and-shoot game, “Dead to Rights: Retribution,” has moments of visceral enjoyment but they become fewer and farther between as the structural flaws and awful combat system make the title nearly impossible to enjoy. As poorly designed games get more difficult, their drawbacks go from annoying to aggravating with deaths caused more by game design than player control. “Dead to Rights: Retribution” is such a game.
It’s a shame too because this reboot of the “Dtr” franchise starts so ridiculously over-the-top that it promises at least a guilty pleasure experience. The player takes on the role of renegade police officer Jack Slate and his trusty dog Shadow. A brief prologue opens the game as the player gets used to controlling man’s best friend as Shadow tackles and mauls the gun-wielding bad guys trying to finish off a near-dead Jack.

Released in 2002, the original Dead To Rights—with its sadistic executions of enemies—was little more than a poor man’s Max Payne with an attack dog. The 2010 sequel doesn’t fare any better. The game tells—or rather, retells, since it hashes over the same narrative ground—the story of Jack Slate, a rogue cop whose most distinguishing characteristic is his Kratos-like anger over the murder of his father, from whom he inherited his blank, handsome looks. This personal injustice supposedly justifies the cruel and unusual rampage on which Jack embarks. Merely killing an enemy is never ...

Right, I know how badly all of you have been tearing your hair out in anticipation for Dead to Rights: Retribution news, so here we go -- Namco Bandai have revealed that the forthcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 shooter will be released on April 13th in the Us and Friday the 16th in Europe.
Dead to Rights: Retribution is a re-booted return to the forgotten third-person shooter series, in which players control tough-guy cop Jack Slate as he cleans up the gritty underbelly of Grant City with his K-9 companion Shadow.
But the good news doesn’t stop there folks -- those of you who pre-order the game at GameStop or Amazon will be receiving either one of two exclusive pre-order bonuses:
GameStop is offering customers the “Jack Pack” which includes access to “Grant City Anti-Crime Armor” and a “Guns-Blazing Action Mode” which turns your standard issue bullets into those of the exploding variety.

Recently, we spoke with Alicia Kim, Public Relations Manager at Namco Bandai, on Dead to Rights: Retribution for the Xbox 360 and PS3. This reboot of the Dead to Rights franchise is a visceral journey into crime fighting. Gamers play as Jack Slate and his canine companion Shadow, members of the Grant City Anti-Crime Unit. The game incorporates 360 degree fighting to give games a more kung-fu movie style of gameplay. You can also command Shadow to hold enemies while you're fighting or have Shadow fetch weapons for you. Some of the other cool features include the Disarms, which allow you to take the weapon from your opponent and use it against them. The game also offers the stereotypical bullet-time feature, called Focus Mode in Retribution. Focus Mode not only slows down time, but allows for greater damage in attacks. As you'll see in the interview, Alicia's favorite moves is ...
