A Wheel of Fortune contestant quipped back and forth with Pat Sajak on Wednesday night (April 17) after making it to the Bonus Round and losing out on a massive $100,000. The contestant in question was Brooke Smith, a young woman from Atlanta, Georgia, who told Sajak she’s recorded and watched every episode of Wheel for the past three or four years. She also described herself as an “avid reader,” reading between 50 to 100 books a year. Smith proved to have more than just book smarts as she took on Adam Williams from McKinney, Texas, and Samantha Hanna from St. Louis, Missouri, even though things didn’t start off too hot. After the Mystery Round, Smith trailed her opponents with $3,000 compared to Hannah’s $3,100 and Williams’ $12,050. However, Smith clawed back into the game during the Express Round, where she bagged herself $9,100 and a trip to The Crane Resort in Barbados worth $12,190. Smith...

Back in 2021, Chris Rowan, an art director and prop stylist for film and television, purchased the house that was shown to be the home of serial killer Buffalo Bill in Jonathan Demme‘s 1991 classic The Silence of the Lambs (watch it Here), then turned it into a bed and breakfast. This September, Brooke Smith – who played Buffalo Bill captive Catherine Martin – will be returning to that house for the first time since production wrapped. Fans who visit the house during the three days Smith will be there will have the chance to get her autograph and take a picture with her in the well pit in the basement! Fans can also get guided tours of the house , which is located at 8 Circle St. in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania.

For the first time since the filming of the horror classic, The Silence of the Lambs actor Brooke Smith, who infamously played the unforgettable role of Catherine Martin, will return to visit Buffalo Bill’s House, the real location where the climax to the film was shot!
Brooke last stepped foot inside “Buffalo Bill’s House” over thirty years ago during the scene where she is rescued from the infamous ‘well’ in which she is held captive by the serial killer Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs. In that scene, Brooke is led out of the house and through its doors into the arms of her mother, Senator Ruth Martin (played by Diane Baker).
Fans are now able to purchase a ticket for a meet and greet with Brooke Smith during the weekend of September 22-24 (multiple time slots are available).

The casual Oscar observer might wonder how some of the 398 new members invited to join the Academy’s ranks qualify for the honor that includes Oscar voting rights.
From Taylor Swift to Warner Bros-Discovery CEO David Zaslav, it’s not always obvious how the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences decides who to invite as next year’s class of new members.
Oscar winners are often invited to join the ranks after their big moment, so Billie Eilish was therefore eligable after she won the Oscar for the James Bond song “No Time to Die” (2021) with her brother Finneas.
Some craftspeople are eligible for membership because their work was in categories that release Oscar shortlists before nominations, such as Swift, who was shortlisted for the song “Carolina” from the film “Where the Crawdads Sing” this past year.

Before we even meet the class of 2009 in “Class of ’09,” we’re in the year 2034 being introduced to Tayo Michaels (Brian Tyree Henry), who — according to a news chyron — is the director of the FBI. Soon after, when we’re in what the show’s chyrons repeatedly call “The Past,” we learn Tayo is, surprise surprise, a member of the titular class, and he’s struggling to pass a physical at Quantico — a physical he must complete in order to become an FBI agent.
So… are we meant to think the future FBI Director really isn’t going to graduate? Should we be wondering if he only made it into the Bureau because of special treatment? Or, assuming the flash-forward is meant to steer attention away from if he graduates and toward how he graduates, should we be focused on the casual discrimination he faces from one of his fellow students?...

The premise of the limited series “Class of ‘09” is a familiar form of dystopia: in the near future, law enforcement has come to rely on technology that skirts the line between police work and a police state. “Class of ‘09” shares a blueprint with classics like “Minority Report,” then adds a timely twist. The FX show’s Orwellian innovation is an algorithm powered by artificial intelligence, the kind of tool now at the center of all kinds of public anxiety, including the ongoing writers strike.
“Class of ‘09” is created and written by Tom Rob Smith, the British scribe best known to Americans as the force behind “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” the second installment of Ryan Murphy anthology “American Crime Story.” That season, an underrated masterpiece, scrambled the typical chronology of true crime, beginning with the titular murder and winding backwards through Andrew Cunanan’s serial killing spree.

At times you may think you’re watching a reboot of ABC’s Quantico (2015-18). Then you’re suddenly thrust into a futuristic Minority Report-style sci-fi allegory. Scribe Tom Rob Smith’s (London Spy) intriguingly cluttered thriller Class of ’09, the latest provocative FX drama to go straight to streaming on Hulu, ambitiously toggles between three time periods, when perhaps one would have sufficed. In 2009, we meet an FBI training class, including former nurse and underdog champion Poet (House of Cards’ soulful Kate Mara), disillusioned insurance agent Tayo (Atlanta’s brooding Brian Tyree Henry), Iranian immigrant offspring Hour (Sepidah Moafi) and a few slices of generic and underwritten beefcake played by such familiar faces as Brian J. Smith and Jake McDorman. They’re all put through the physical and psychological wringer, as we’ve seen many times before. The present-day storyline, set in 2023, finds these now-seasoned agents well ...

Since FX moved under the Disney umbrella in 2019, it has sometimes been difficult to find its programming; I’m a professional and I’m often stymied when it comes to which FX shows actually air on FX and which are Hulu exclusives. But FX shows have still felt like FX shows.
The new FX-produced drama Class of ’09 is a puzzlement. One of those Hulu-only offerings, Class of ’09 surely has the air and aura of an FX show, from its sturdy, cinematic production values to a cast topped by FX veterans Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and Kate Mara (A Teacher) to its creation by writer Tom Rob Smith (The Assassination of Gianni Versace). But what it feels like? Well, it feels like a broadcast TV show from a decade ago — specifically like ABC’s Quantico, a drama remembered largely by Priyanka Chopra Jonas devotees.

A timely drama that contemplates AI-era criminal justice, FX on Hulu’s “Class of ‘09” sounds like must-watch TV for admirers of futuristic realism. The subgenre, also referred to as lo-fi sci-fi, swaps hyper-mechanized cornucopias with the grounded, gradually evolved settings of “After Yang,” “Her” and “Ex Machina.”

FX has released the trailer for their upcoming limited series “Class of ‘09,” a suspense thriller about a class of FBI agents dealing with the rise of artificial intelligence within the U.S. government. The eight-episode show, starring Brian Tyree Henry and Kate Mara, will premiere May 10 on Hulu.
The trailer begins with an FBI class reciting an oath in unison, pledging their devotion to the pursuit of truth and knowledge, but an eerie tone develops as some begin to show concern over how the bureau is progressing.
Stakes rise as characters become engrossed in missions tinged with classic FBI tropes, including laser-filled rooms, swarms of agents advancing on a home, gun fights, erratic driving and rooms filled with countless monitors broadcasting the same image from screen to screen.

Brooke Smith will forever be known to moviegoers for her role as Buffalo Bill’s kidnap victim, Catherine Martin, in The Silence of the Lambs. But before she “put the lotion in the basket,” Smith was a part of a New York hardcore punk scene that congregated at dingy clubs on the Bowery like CBGBs and Great Gildersleeves for shows by Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, and other underground icons. “I was attracted by the anger of the music,” says Smith. “And the outsider-ness of it all. You recognize your tribe when you meet them.

At the 64th Academy Awards, it was all about "The Silence of the Lambs." The host, Billy Crystal, was wheeled onto the stage wearing Hannibal Lecter's famous muzzle, and by the end of the evening the film had swept the "Big Five" Oscars: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay, becoming only the third film in the Academy's history to do so (after "It Happened One Night" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.")
It was a cannibal love-in, alright; in the building at least, because outside in the street several hundred protestors gathered to angrily decry the portrayal of gay characters in a number of the year's films, most notably "The Silence of the Lambs" for its transgender serial killer Buffalo Bill (via Advocate). The perfect needle-drop can elevate a scene from merely effective to totally unforgettable. Think of The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" in the opening of Martin Scorsese's "Mean Streets," Michael Madsen dancing to Stealers Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle with You" as he tortures a police officer, or Max and Rosemary dancing to The Faces' "Ooh La La" as the curtain closes on "Rushmore." These moments and songs felt fated to find each other.
One of the most hauntingly memorable pairings of all time is Jonathan Demme's use of Q Lazzarus' "Goodbye Horses" in "The Silence of the Lambs." Ted Levine, as serial killer Jame Gumb (aka "Buffalo Bill"), dances in front of a mirror, admiring himself to a rather extreme degree ("I'd f**k me") as the kidnapped Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith) plots to take a hostage of her own (poor Precious). Through 18 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, there have been plenty of changes.
Some of the biggest changes come from the cast, as any show that has been on as long as Grey's has surely seen plenty of cast exits.
Luckily, the cast that departed early in the series (or even more recently) can still be seen in other projects. So where are they now?
Isaiah Washington -- Dr. Preston Burke
Isaiah Washington portrayed Dr. Preston Burke for the first three seasons of Grey's Anatomy.
Washington also returned as a guest on Grey's Anatomy Season 10 after Cristina left Grey Sloan.
Since leaving Seattle Grace, the actor has remained steady in both TV and film, having been in the main cast of The 100 through The 100 Season 5.
He's also appeared in shows such as Blue Bloods, Bull, Law & Order: LA, and was recurring during Survivor's Remorse Season 4.

There are plenty of unsettling scenes in "Silence of the Lambs" — though it's probably to be expected that a film containing Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) would be bursting at its visceral seems with disturbing moments. For myself, Buffalo Bill's nightmarish basement pit takes first place for horrific imagery in the feature. The gruelling experiences of Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith) are made disconcertingly intimate, and are some of the tensest moments in the movie. It also doesn't help that the film waits until the last absolute second to save Martin.

The best horror film of the 1990s and perhaps the only serial killer picture post- Psycho that can stand on equal terms with Hitchcock’s classic, Jonathan Demme and Ted Tally’s adaptation of the Thomas Harris novel is a standout experience in every way. Not all 4K Ultra HD encodings are worth crowing about but this one is — the added visual detail and especially the contrast range really make a difference. Kino offers a good selection of extras as well, including a teaser trailer I haven’t seen for years and a fine Tim Lucas commentary.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the Season 2 premiere of ABC’s Big Sky.
A couple of major twists and compelling new mysteries presented themselves in Big Sky‘s Season 2 opener, which saw John Carroll Lynch return from beyond the TV grave. In an interview with Deadline, the SAG Award winner confirmed the identity of his new character and teased his storyline.
As the episode titled “Wakey, Wakey” opens, the primary antagonist of Season 1, sex trafficking trucker Ronald (Brian Geraghty), is on the lam. Private detective Jenny (Katheryn Winnick) is still recovering from the gunshot wound inflicted during his escape, and like her colleague Cassie (Kylie Bunbury), remains intent on taking him down. While Cassie distracts herself with work at Dewell & Hoyt, hoping for a clue that will bring her to Ronald, Cassie visits Sheriff Tubb (Patrick Gallagher) to inform him that she wants to rejoin the force.

Actors doing good work on network series are sometimes overlooked at Emmy time, though the networks continue to televise the awards ceremony to cash in on advertising revenue. The academy’s snob factor kicks into high gear and performers on premium cable series and streaming shows take priority. This year may be different. Respected veteran character actor John Carroll Lynch, who has played everything from Frances McDormand’s husband, Norm Gunderson, in the 1996 film “Fargo” to a trio of villains on FX’s “American Horror Story,” may crash the party in Best Drama Supporting Actor. It would be his first nomination.

Brooke Smith began her career as a pop-culture icon: She was Catherine Martin, the “American Girl”-singing kidnap victim of Buffalo Bill in the 1991 “Silence of the Lambs.” Since then, Smith has had dozens of film and TV roles including Sheriff Jane Greene on “Bates Motel,” nurse Frances Simpson on two seasons of “Ray Donovan,” and two seasons as Dr. Erica Hahn on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Along the way, she’s also become one of countless character actors who has never been nominated for an Emmy.

Brooke Smith added another memorable role to her resume with the new ABC drama “Big Sky.” The actress plays Merrilee Legarski, a woman who gradually discovers her state trooper husband has monstrous predilections. She is also seduced by her husband’s accomplice, stemming from her own loneliness. “Hell of a taste in men she has,” quips Smith in an exclusive video interview for Gold Derby. “I guess you go with what you’ve got.” Watch the full webchat above.
While Merrilee might have rotten luck in her love life, Smith resonated with her character’s innermost motivations. Filming in Vancouver away from her family in the middle of a pandemic was an isolating experience, and like Merrilee, Smith was missing those to which she was closest. “I felt that there was a parallel in that Merrilee, she just wants connection,” explains Smith. “She wants her husband to be able to look her in the eye.

Photo: ‘The Silence of the Lambs’/Orion Pictures 30 years ago, ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ was quietly dumped into New York City theaters as a testing ground for its wide release. Based on Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel of the same name, expectations for the film weren’t particularly high--Michael Mann’s 1986 ‘Manhunter’, based on the novel’s prequel, was a financial and critical failure (although its artistic merit has been favorably reevaluated in recent years). Of course, when ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ opened to mass theaters on Valentine’s Day, 1991, it became a sleeper hit. For those unfamiliar, a brief synopsis--Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), a young FBI trainee, is assigned by her superior Jack Crawford (Scott Glen) to interview Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), an incarcerated former psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer, in the hopes of obtaining some insight that might aid in the capture of active serial killer Buffalo...

Spoiler Alert: Warning! This interview and episode postmortem contains details about tonight’s Big Sky episode 9, “Let It Be Him”
We saw some jaw-dropping stuff tonight.
For example, private investigators Cassie and Jenny (Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick) chasing down an autopiloted Tesla commandeered by a dead priest with little kidnapped Erik (Evan Whitten) on the passenger side. Another takeaway from tonight: If you want to completely stop such autopiloted barreling Tesla, simply get in front of it. And that’s exactly what Cassie and Jenny did in a near-dead-on collision.
While we’ve always known that John Carroll Lynch’s sex trafficking Montana state trooper Rick Legarski’s days were numbered, nothing was more shocking to date than how he left this Earth. And, no, he wasn’t buried in a pick-up truck like poor Cody (Ryan Phillippe).

Brooke Smith has enjoyed a career spanning more than three decades across the big and small screen. She’s starred in the cult classic Series 7: The Contenders, had roles in blockbusters including Interstellar and featured prominently on Grey’s Anatomy, Ray Donovan, and Bates Motel to name but a few.
Yet to some, she will always be remembered as Catherine Martin, the daughter of Senator Ruth Martin who winds up being kidnapped by Jame Gumb, aka Buffalo Bill, in The Silence of The Lambs. Not that fans always immediately realise it.
“I don’t get recognized for it that much compared with something like Grey’s Anatomy,” she tells Den of Geek. “With The Silence of the Lambs, it’s more like ‘wait a minute, how do I know you?’. I would get that at the school my kids went to. They knew me but they just couldn’t quite figure it out.

Stewart Talent has announced it has signed Daphne Rubin-Vega and Brooke Smith for representation.
Brooke Smith can currently be seen on David E. Kelley’s Big Sky. She was recently seen in Jay Roach’s Bombshell, which centered on the female Fox News personnel and their allegations against founder Roger Ailes (John Lithgow). She played Ailes’ PR watchdog ‘Irena Briganti’.
Smith will be seen in a recurring role on Amazon’s anthology series Them: Covenant from creator Little Marvin and executive producer Lena Waithe. Set in 1953, it centers on a young couple who decide to move their family from North Carolina to an all-white Los Angeles neighborhood. You never know what’s going to happen with an audition,” actor Ted Levine remembers of the first time he portrayed Jame Gumb, The Silence of the Lambs villain also known as “Buffalo Bill.” “I just pulled something out. It was scary. It felt kind of magical.”
“I read with the three final guys who were going to be Buffalo Bill,” says Brooke Smith, who played Catherine Martin, the U.S. senator’s daughter whom Gumb abducts in the movie. “When Ted walked in, it was so crazily obvious. I asked him,...

This article contains The Little Things spoilers. You can read our spoiler-free review here.
Despite what those looking for clear answers after that ending might hope, The Little Things is not based on any specific true story or serial killer investigation. It was a 1993 screenplay penned by writer-director John Lee Hancock. However, there are similarities to several well known cases. The film even mentions the Night Stalker, aka Richard Ramirez, all while stopping short of naming names or committing to a specific lethal predator in its own yarn.
This is by design. In a recent interview with The Wrap, Hancock said “the whole reason I wrote the script” was to lean into the ambiguity and frustration of criminal investigations. Yet several ongoing serial killer investigations during the time of his writing raises questions about whether this intent was partially influenced by two open-ended searches for serial killers.
