Please be advised that in the interests of maintaining contemporaneous consistency I will be referring to WWE as WWF throughout this article. This clarification should prevent you from imagining giant men in spandex fighting pandas for money.
On August the 29th 1992 the WWF came to Wembley Stadium for its annual SummerSlam. It was the first time the organisation had strayed outside the States for an event of this scale, and the reason was purely financial: Vince McMahon and his backers realised that while enthusiasm for the sport was waning – or at least plateauing – in the US, fans in the UK were in the fevered grip of Wrestlemania, Hulkamania, and – perhaps most crucially of all – Gladly-Spend-Thirty-Pounds-on-a-Giant-Foam-Finger-amania. The WWF’s instincts proved correct: the first round of tickets for SummerSlam sold out in five minutes, and the event helped to shift over a million pounds in merchandising. UK fans would do anything...

The WWE inducted Ozzy Osbourne and William Shatner into its Wrestling Hall of Fame Tuesday, April 6th, with Osbourne sending in an acceptance video for a ceremony, which took place last week.
The former Black Sabbath singer made his debut at WrestleMania 2 in 1986, when he and Captain Lou Albano supported the British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid) in a tag-team match against the Dream Team (Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake). Davey Boy Smith is reportedly another inductee in this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony. More recently, Osbourne...

Yokozuna was a legendary WWF (WWE these days) heel, the professional-wrestling term for a bad guy — but Agatupu Rodney Anoaʻi was a legendary good dude.
As the first WWE Superstar profiled on the new biographical docuseries “WWE Icons,” Yokozuna’s episode will follow Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event on streaming service WWE Network. Pretty good lead-in.
Don’t want to wait until Sunday? Iffy on the SVOD service’s $9.99-per-month price? TheWrap has your first look at WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi talking about his personal memories of Yoko, free of charge.
In our exclusive clip, Rikishi (real name Solofa F. Fatu Jr.) recalls a time in Yoko’s heyday when Rodney Anoa’i was making far more money than he was as a member of The Headshrinkers. While Fatu Jr. could afford a house, he couldn’t swing the money to replace its faulty heating system — but Yoko...

Following my list of the Ten Best WrestleMania Matches of the 1990s, I was sent down a rabbit-hole of watching every WrestleMania again and figured it might be cool to do the same for the 80s. Now, the 80s doesn’t have as many matches to choose from like the 90s did, and the 00s and 2010s will, but there’s still five WrestleMania events to dive into, so I thought it would be cool either way. Plus… there are some damn fine matches to be found in those first five Mania events. Sure… the workrate in many areas of the WWF during that time wasn’t as great as it would become, but there’s still plenty of iconic and entertaining matches, many featuring the same group of guys. So, here it is, my top ten of the best WrestleMania Matches of the 1980s.

I grew up as a wrestling fan, having started watching at the sunrise of the 90s, in 1992, with the cartoon-era of WWF lighting up our screens with megastars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Roddy Piper. Even back then though, in the midst of the mid-card, I was intrigued by the high-flyer in the baggy blue Mc Hammer-style pants named Owen Hart. When you go and look back on early Owen Hart matches from the 80s and early 90s, you realise just how ahead of the time he was with his ring work. His high flying and acrobatic energy mixed with his nuanced technical ability made for an exciting and entertaining superstar who I was immediately a fan of. Sure, back in those days he wasn’t being given a real shot, working in nothing-matches with Skinner, but I, and many others, could see just how talented he was.

Welcome to this week’s Mlw: Fusion review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have the Jagged Edge Killer…it’s Slade! Match #1: Davey Boy Smith defeated Erick Stevens The following is courtesy of mlw.com:
Tom Lawlor is on commentary as the two lock up. Big “Let’s Go Davey” chants echo throughout the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Shoulder tackle downs Stevens as the sold out crowd continues behind Db. Several snapmares by Davey who soons piefaces Stevens down. Some very hard shots traded between the two. Two bodyslams and a leg drop leads to Db hoisting Erick...

As we fast approach the WWE annual event known as Royal Rumble, it’s a good time to look back on all the previous shows. I’ve been doing just that. I’ve seen each event countless times, but I always enjoy going back in time to re-watch Royal Rumble shows, good or bad, from the past. Beginning in 1988, it was Pat Patterson who came up with the concept of the Royal Rumble match, and it’s been a hugely popular match and Pay-per View ever since. Fans love the idea of not knowing who is coming out next in the big thirty-man (and now thirty-woman) match. Surprises often occur, returns happen and the good guys and bad guys of the company all hit the ring for a big brawl to determine who will go to WrestleMania to face the Champ. The stipulation of winning a shot at the World...

Every year on the lead up to WrestleMania we get bursts or rumours and announcements about which wrestlers and/or personalities will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania weekend. It’s become a big part of the weekend each April, and many fans enjoy the show, seeing former superstars getting a chance to shine once more as they deliver a speech in front of their peers and adoring fans. It’s bloody lovely, quite frankly.
So, I thought, as seen as WrestleMania is a good few months off, it would be a good time to make some half-predictions, as well as talk about who I think Should be in the Hall of Fame. There are, after all, some huge names missing from that place, and it’s always fun to discuss this stuff. I will likely talk about Way too many people for one single class,...

The WWE Network’s live feed went dark after Bret “The Hitman” Hart was attacked by a member of the crowd during his WWE Hall of Fame acceptance speech Saturday night, but footage is emerging showing the aftermath of the wild incident at the Barclays Center in New York.
The event was part of the weekend surrounding Sunday’s Wrestlemania 35. Hart was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame along with his original Hart Foundation tag-team partner Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Neidhart, who died last year, was repped by his daughter Natalya.
Bret and Natalya were at the podium inside the wrestling ring when the attacker, Zachary Madsen, jumped into the ring and tackled Hart to the ground. In an arena full of pro wrestlers, it wasn’t long before Madsen was subdued.
Here are a couple angles from the incident:

The WWE has lost another star. The England-born Dynamite Kid, whose real name is Thomas Billington and who wrestled under the group's previous title WWF in the '80s, died at age 60, Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment reported on Wednesday. His cause of death was not made public. "Dynamite Kid joined WWE in 1984 with his cousin, Davey Boy Smith, forming one of the most popular tag teams of their era, The British Bulldogs. Legendary WWE superstar Jim Neidhart died today at the age of 63. Many fans of the WWF in the ’80s know Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart as one-half of the Hart Foundation tag team with Bret “The Hitman” Hart. Together, the two men held the WWE tag team titles twice before Hart went on to become a solo superstar. While Neidhart was never at the top of the WWE again after that, he remained a member of the Hart Foundation with family members Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart, and more. It may not entirely excuse the muddled, confusing mess that the Shane McMahon-Undertaker ‘storyline’ has become, but it’s pretty clear that WrestleMania 32’s ‘everything is on the line’ Hell in a Cell match is going to include some wild stunts. It has to, in order to make up for the unimaginative build, right? Besides, Shane’s in the match. For him, falling out of a seventh-story window is merely a transition move.
It wouldn’t be the first time that WrestleMania has seen the action ante’d up with picture-esque carnage. In years past, WWE’s grandest spectacle has been the hub for wrestlers to indelibly etch themselves into wrestling lore through reckless self-sacrifice. Once ladder matches virtually became an annual staple of WrestleMania in some form or another, that was the signature on the permission slip that opened up the floodgates of insanity.

Ever since WWE initially announced plans for an Owen Hart DVD/Blu-ray set, which was released this past December, it seemed as if the company was laying the ground work for a possible WWE Hall of Fame induction.
Bret Hart has always been rather vocal about his desire to see his late brother inducted and honored during WrestleMania weekend. However, this is in stark contrast to Owen’s widow, Martha, who has always strayed from any connection to the wrestling industry following her husband’s tragic death on May 23, 1999.
Clearly, if Owen were to be inducted, Bret would be more than willing to accept the honor. Additionally, Owen could be inducted alongside his former stable mates if the Hart Foundation as a unit were inducted, similar to the Four Horsemen a few years back. However, it doesn’t appear that any of this will be happening in Dallas during WrestleMania 32 weekend.

Retired British wrestler Tom ‘Dynamite Kid’ Billington remains in hospital after suffering a stroke, and is said to be in “very serious” condition according to Wrestling Observer Radio.
The former Tag Team Champion spent four years in WWF alongside Davey Boy Smith, wrestling as The British Bulldogs. The pair feuded with teams such as the Hart Foundation and the Rougeaus from 1984-88. Billington’s unique style, mixing old-school British wrestling with groundbreaking Japanese manoeuvres, inspired a generation of technicians. He has even been described by Bret Hart as the best wrestler ever seen.
Billington was reportedly admitted to hospital six weeks ago, and although his speech has improved since then, his physical condition is said to have seriously worsened.
Won also reports that, at one stage of his ongoing hospitlisation, he believed himself to be in the ring, calling spots with Abdullah The Butcher.

The night before WrestleMania 32, WWE will present their annual Hall Of Fame ceremony. There have been murmurs that the company plan on making some sweeping changes to the format of the event this year. Previous years have felt a little too long for management, so there’s a chance many of the speeches will be shortened. Such limitations likely won’t hamper proceedings, and certainly won’t have any effect on the headline induction, whomever that may be.
‘Mania 32 takes place in Arlington, Texas, a state that is no stranger to pro wrestling, and has actually acted as a hotbed for wrestling talent over the years. For that very reason, it makes sense that WWE will look to honour many who are from the area. There are lots of choices, but they can’t all be from Texas. Generally, the promotion enjoy inducting a variety of performers, even...

If you are a WWE fan over a certain age you’ll find it hard to believe that there are wrestling fans out there who don’t know who Owen Hart was… A wrestler who died way before his time, this release may be controversial but it is also a fitting tribute to one of the best wrestlers ever to enter the WWE ring. WWE Owen Hart: Hart of Gold takes a look at this career.
If you were watching the Over the Edge in 1999 you’ll always remember when the show suddenly came to an abrupt stop. Then the announcement that Owen Hart had been involved in an accident when descending down into the ring as the Blue Blazer. The show did go on, but with an atmosphere that no fan would forget. This went into the next night with Raw where Superstars paid their respects to one of their own.

Hulk Hogan has become so synonymous within the wrestling industry for his tall tales that it’s become a running joke at this point. He’s told dozens of different versions of the same story, outlandish tales and outright lies so often that we don’t expect any less from him every time he’s in front of a microphone.
Who can forget the classic Andre The Giant story, where both the Frenchman himself and the WrestleMania III crowd in the Pontiac Silverdome grows in size with each retelling? It’s become a meme, with Hogan slamming the 1,200 pound giant in front of 260,000 screaming fans!
The potent combination of Hulk Hogan’s truth-stretching and Ric Flair’s aimless – and often inebriated – ramblings makes for quite the pairing, and we were treated as such when The Hulkster joined The Nature Boy on his Wooooo! Nation podcast to share stories and shoot the breeze.

Once upon a time, the only British stars known in the United States were The British Bulldog and William Regal. The chance to make a name for yourself in the biggest market of them all seemed very limited, and world class British wrestlers instead made it their ambition to travel the world and wrestle full time across the globe, stopping off in Japan, Canada, South Africa and Germany.
But times have changed. The world has opened up and the internet means that a British match could be watched by a fan located anywhere in the world. In recent years, the WWE has recruited a number of British talents. Some have flourished, while others have returned home.
Right now, Paige is one of the most talked about Divas in the world, featuring on Total Divas, Tough Enough, Steve Austin’s podcast as well as being a regular on Raw and pay-per-views.

Back in July, we went through the 20 WWF/E Pay Per Views and ranked them from 20 to 1. There have also been 20 September Pay Per Views since 1995*, so it seems apropos to look at them again. There’s a remarkable difference between the July and September Pay Per Views. In July, the creative team is gearing up for one of the biggest Pay Per Views of the year, Summerslam. In September, however, there’s a tremendous creative lull as the summer ends and football begins in the fall, and the September Pay Per View reflects this lull.
September Pay Per Views have a lot of things in common, including non-decisive finishes in the main event. Many of the main events build toward the October Pay Per View, a few times toward a Hell in the Cell match. But there have been a few gems that have taken place while the weather gets cooler,...

The full content listing for the upcoming WWE DVD and Blu-ray set on the life and death of Owen Hart has been revealed, courtesy of the Wrestling DVD Network. The list includes all chapter titles for the documentary feature on disc one, as well as all extras, including the full list of matches selected for the package.
Bret Hart recently commented on the documentary portion of the set, sounding very pessimistic about the chances that the documentary will do a good job telling the full story of his brother’s life. Bret believes that WWE is having to walk on egg shells to cater to Owen’s widow, Martha, who is not supporting the DVD release.
Bret told the Fight Network:

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Stephanie McMahon has grown up in the WWE. She was still a kid when she first worked for the company, and has clawed her way up to being one of the most powerful women in the entire entertainment industry.
Still only in her late thirties, she’s the sort of modern corporate female powerhouse that any company would desire. As WWE’s Chief Brand Officer, it is increasingly likely she’ll inherit the entire WWE empire as soon as her father Vince McMahon retires.
But away from the impressive business career, there’s a more eyebrow raising ‘character’ career. She’s been on-screen as a ‘Stephanie McMahon’ character for nearly two decades now, and even before her on-air debut, she was already busy behind the scenes in the WWF. Whatever she’s been doing in the business, it has always had people talking.

Celebrity Big Brother is just a few short days away, so we're at peak excitement... imagine how we felt when we got invited to actually go and snoop around the house in the company of hosts Emma Willis and Rylan Clark.
You've probably already seen the house pictures and the Diary Room chair, and you probably know all about the UK vs USA theme, but here are 11 things we discovered from our survey of the bungalow in Borehamwood...
1. This is the view the celebrities will have when they walk into the house for the first time.
Except with fewer members of the public at the bottom and more starry folk, obviously. If you're wondering why we're wearing that fetching blue plastic over our shoes, it's to keep the place spotless before the celebs move in. Couldn't have muddy carpets, could we?
2. There is a lot of glitter in the bedroom.

Next to WrestleMania, WWE SummerSlam is viewed by many as the second biggest show of the wrestling calendar. As such, big matches are put on, and even bigger performances are delivered. Not everybody can come out of SummerSlam as a winner, though.
Looking back through SummerSlam history since the PPV debuted in 1988, now is the perfect time to see who SummerSlam’s biggest losers are. Be it in singles or tag team action, whether there’s stipulations in place, or even if it’s not winning a multi-man match, any-and-all failed attempt at victory has been taken into account for this list in order to find out who has picked up the biggest amount of defeats at the biggest show of the Summer.
A couple of participants on this list are actually in matches at this year’s SummerSlam event, and so with this piece being penned before SummerSlam,...

With Battleground in the rear view mirror, WWE’s got a clear path heading toward SummerSlam, the second-biggest Pay-Per-View event of the year. While WrestleMania is the undisputed king of the company’s schedule, SummerSlam has long served as a miniature version of the “Granddaddy of ‘Em All,” featuring marquee match-ups and, in recent years, a full weekend of fan-oriented festivities.
The event has become legendary, with some SummerSlam moments — The British Bulldog defeating Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship in 1992, Steve Austin and The Undertaker battling in the “Match of the Century” in 1998, and Daniel Bryan capturing the WWE Title from John Cena in 2013 — standing just as tall as any of their WrestleMania counterparts.
Of course, SummerSlam moments don’t create themselves. For the event to truly have that legendary feel, WWE has to give the fans at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center the most explosive card they can concoct.

WWE 2K16’s roster has been leaked on wikipedia. However, it looks unlikely to be the actual roster. Names like Kurt Angle are featured as a WWE Legend, which would be a surprising inclusion given his major active role in Tna Impact Wrestling. The rest of the list is reasonably plausible, albeit with a few other unlikely names.
The list in full is can be read here. The WWE names are Bret Hart, British Bulldog, Brock Lesnar, Doink the Clown, The Great Khali, Goldberg, John Cena, Sasha Banks, Seth Rollins, Sting, Sheamus, Steve Austin, Roman Reigns, Rosa Mendes, Rusev, Ultimate Warrior and Zack Ryder.
In addition, there will apparently be an Ecw roster. That will include Rhyno, Sabu and Sandman.
There’s then a WWE Legends section, with Kurt Angle, Mr Perfect and Sid.
It is doubtful that this is the real roster. For one, why would Bret Hart...

It has been a wopping five days since the name and cast of the new James Bond film was announced. While some of us (me) think that calling a Bond movie Spectre demonstrates a slight lack of creative thinking, the casting information has provided a bit more excitement. Christoph Waltz as a Bond villain? Yes, I think I can get behind that. Now that the title has been announced, we can expect some teaser images from the film to start popping up; beginning, apparently, with a tiny reference to Judi Dench’s sadly deceased M.
The first Spectre image is nothing but the clapperboard from the first take on the first day of filming, but it includes a little British bulldog figurine there in the corner. The reference? That’s what Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) hands to Craig’s Bond at the end of Skyfall, a little memento left behind by...

Or had she? Who knows? Read on for all the details of that and everything else that happened in SW3 this week with our 25 best bits from the episode...

Back in the late 90s, amidst the crotch-chopping antics of the Attitude Era, another trend was sweeping its way through the WWE. Between February 1997 and November 1998, the powers that be added three new championships to the company roster.
The first belt in question was the European title, brought into play when the British Bulldog beat Owen Hart in an absolute classic in Berlin, Germany. Ten months later, the WWE would adopt another belt, this time the Light-Heavyweight title in a muddled attempt to capitalise on the rise of WCW’s Cruiserweight division.
But while those two belts were built on a sturdy set of rules and regulations, the third and final title was most certainly not.
Awarded to Mankind for his suicidal style, the Hardcore Championship was like none before it. Each bout was contested under a unique blend of rules; no disqualification, no count-outs, no holds barred...

Over 17 years ago in Berlin, Germany, the WWE crowned its first ever European Champion.
In the culmination of an eight-man tournament—featuring no less than four future world champions—the British Bulldog defeated Owen Hart in what is still considered one of the greatest matches in Monday Night Raw history.
The prestige of a tournament format, the quality of the final bout and the novelty aspect of a continent-specific championship suggested that the European title could be a useful addition to WWE programming.
But such promise was never fulfilled. Just five years and five months later, the belt was merged with the more respected Intercontinental Championship and thus has never been defended since.
So where did it all go wrong?

A young mathematic prodigy, Oxford graduate, and cryptographer par excellence, he was ushered into the ultra top secret Bletchley Park programme during the Second World War and tasked with the impossible: to break the German military codes through a captured sequencer which could potentially offer billions of responses to any clandestine communication. Socially incompetent and ruthlessly dedicated, Turing willingly threw himself into the arena of cerebral combat, along the way erecting much of the intellectual and theoretical infrastructure of the modern computing world. But as a closeted homosexual his treatment at the hands of the authorities in the post-war period should cause the great British bulldog to hang its head in shame,...

Brock Lesnar is the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion and there are rumors that he will be wearing the gold until next year’s WrestleMania 31. Some fans love the idea of a champion who only shows up on special occasions while others feel it is the champion’s duty to wrestle on every pay-per-view as well as Raw, Smackdown. There are valid points on both sides of the argument.
Old school fans who grew up with Hulkamania won’t even bat an eyelash at a part-time wrestler carrying the belt. Those who were raised in the Attitude Era and beyond have been spoiled, in a sense, because a weekly appearance by the champion is the norm. There really is no right or wrong answer to the part-time Lesnar equation. However, in order to appeal to those who want a top-tier champion on a consistent basis, WWE already has the answer,...

The Scribbler
Release Date: Theaters, VOD, and iTunes September 19th Written By: Dan Schaffer Directed By: John Suits Starring: Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Eliza Dushku
Man o’ man, creeps. What we have here is a lil’ independent gem that serves as one of the most original and entertaining superhero origin films I’ve seen in many a day!
But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself… ya see, at first, The Scribbler plays out like a kind of murder mystery (albeit a surreal and ultra-stylized one), as Suki (Katie Cassidy), a young girl with multiple personalities, arrives at Juniper Tower, a boarding home for recently released mental patients—all of whom have their own unique quirks (think Arkham Asylum subdivided into low-rent housing).
After Suki arrives and does a lil’ of the ol’ self-medicating (which in this case involves her eliminating individual personas from her psyche via a machine...

The 50-year history of World Wrestling Entertainment is littered with Superstars and Divas who have been failed by a system specifically put in place to make them sports-entertainment stars. Some were plagued by their own inability to perform up to the level of a main roster talent. Others were victims of the political minefield that is the behind the scenes atmosphere of the professional wrestling industry. Then were those who, for whatever reason, simply could not convince management to give them an adequate push, regardless of how hard they worked or how over they eventually became. That is not to mention those whose personal demons ultimately dictated the level of success they would, or would not, achieve.
Both the Rock N’ Wrestling and Attitude Eras featured numerous guys and gals who failed to live up to expectations for a number of reasons. Superstars such as “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith...

The media is full of awesome, ridiculously badass heroes in warfare, from the fictional cast of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan to John Rambo, everybody’s favourite Vietnam vet and headband model. Even those with the most cursory knowledge of history will be aware of real life war heroes as well, whether it’s Winston Churchill – the British bulldog who lead the country during the Second World War – or Oskar Schindler – who saved hundreds of lives whilst working undercover in the Nazi party.
There are plenty of soldier, spies and good samaritans that don’t appear in the history books, though, people who have never had films made about them even though they’re A. Just as badass and B. Just as important as the entire cast of Band Of Brothers put together. War is an ugly, horrible thing that has plagued us since the dawn of man,...

Summerslam’s rich tradition as one of WWE’s premiere annual shows continues in just weeks, as the company promotes its 27th annual blockbuster event.
Not all WWE plans have come to fruition, others did and would result in classic matches with unbelievable back stories or financial implications. From unbeaten superstars, to insane payoffs, to matches that could have been, Summerslam has put a unique thumbprint on wrestling history both inside and outside of the ring. After taking the event throughout three countries, the show has developed into a regular west-coast attraction, as the WWE has made the Staples Center in Los Angeles the permanent fixture for the show since 2009.
Even after 26 years, Summerslam remains one of the biggest pay-per-view shows of the year, and has been a launching pad and career highlight for the likes of Brock Lesnar, Davey Boy Smith, and many others. The show also...

Summerslam 2014 is now just weeks away, with the rich history of WWE’s biggest night of the summer looking to continue. One of the most memorable matches in the event’s history was the legendary Davey Boy Smith/ Bret Hart battle for the Intercontinental title in Wembley Stadium in 1992.
In a Kayfabe Commentaries shoot interview release this week, Bret Hart revealed what would have happened if their match didn’t go down.
According to Hart, Vince McMahon hadn’t yet decided as to whether Summerslam 1992 would be in England or Washington DC, only having narrowed it down to those two. Hart was set to lose the Intercontinental title at the show, and wanted to maximize the heat generated for the championship switch, so he asked to work with “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith in England, or “The HeartBreak Kid” Shawn Michaels in Washington, in what would have...
