Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode one introduces David Oyelowo as the legendary lawman whose life was dedicated to protecting the peace in the Old West. Reeves was credited with arresting over 3,000 criminals while serving as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, and it’s not a stretch to believe he might have been one of the inspirations for The Lone Ranger.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves was created and written by Chad Feehan, based on the books Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves: The Bass Reeves Trilogy, Book One and Hell on the Border: The Bass Reeves Trilogy, Book Two by Sidney Thompson. Episode one focuses on the last days of Bass Reeves’ enslavement and the time he spent with the Seminoles, with David Oyelowo delivering a powerful performance as the runaway slave turned gunslinging lawman.

That’s what the independent producers of “The Man From Earth: Holocene” concluded about the inevitable piracy of their sci-fi film, a sequel to the 2007 cult hit “The Man From Earth.”
More than two months before its April 3 release on digital and DVD, they uploaded it to The Pirate Bay — available in up to 1080p HD format — and it spread to other services. The video is book-ended by an appeal from director-producer Richard Schenkman to consider donating some money if they watched the movie. “If you like it, support it, and remember that sharing is caring,” reads the note they included with the digital versions they distributed on piracy networks.
Since “self-pirating” their movie on Jan. 15, according to Schenkman and producer Eric D. Wilkinson, they’ve received nearly $45,000 in donations via their site, manfromearth.com, from fans and supporters around the world including China,...

One of the more original sci-fi indies of the 2000s gets an unexpected sequel in The Man From Earth: Holocene, director-writer-producer Richard Schenkman's intriguing but underwhelming follow-up to the microbudgeted mindblower The Man From Earth (2007). Once again starring David Lee Smith as an ordinary-looking dude who is actually some 14,000 years old, this second installment works best when it adheres to the talk-heavy template set by the original, written by respected Star Trek and Twilight Zone contributor Jerome Bixby.

The Nice Guys didn’t perform as well as we felt it deserved, yet Shane Black is something of a hot commodity again. While his Predator sequel / reboot / whatever prepares for a release in February of 2018, the writer-director apparently spent this Memorial Day weekend with, fittingly, our greatest living American, Dwayne Johnson, to move forward with their long-rumored collaboration: Doc Savage, a ’30s- and ’40s-era superhero who pre-dates and, speaking for ability, in many ways matches Superman.
Taking to Instagram, the star confirmed his involvement in the project scripted by Black, Nice Guys co-writer Anthony Bagarozzi, and Chuck Mondry. Sony is supporting the project, about which little else is known — though one imagines it’s to come after The Predator, i.e. remains a few years off. Waiting aside, the point stands: it’s plenty nice to have more Black, and it’s no less odd to be actively excited about a superhero picture.

In 2007 The Man From Earth took the internet by storm, introducing a mind-boggling, completely compelling, science fiction concept to an unexpectedly wide audience. It was writer Jerome Bixby’s final work, and the film wasn’t made until almost a decade after his death. Now, six years after the film’s release, the filmmakers are listening to the audience cries for more, and making a sequel, Man From Earth Millennium. To fund the sequel, they’ve followed the recent independent film trend and launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project.
The sequel is being made by the original’s director, Richard Schenkman, and produced again by Eric D. Wilkinson. The man from Earth himself, David Lee Smith, is returning as well to star in the film. The page doesn’t reveal much about the plot, but it does list the anticipated pre-production start date as November of this year with...

Image Entertainment recently released Dead Season on DVD and I had a chance to talk with the film’s writer/producer Loren Semmens. For those who are unfamiliar with the film, it is a zombie movie that takes place mostly on an island and I had a chance to learn about the difficulties of filming on Vieques, creating a zombie movie on a budget, and the possibility of a sequel:
Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Can you tell me how this project first came together?
Loren Semmens: Adam (the director) and I had always wanted to make a zombie film together. We took a trip to Vieques, the island where we shot the film, and thought it was a fantastic background for a zombie movie. We figured this was the time to do it and I raised some money. Well that wasn't much of a one liner. Ryan (Jonathan Togo) tells Walter (Omar Miller) he hasn't been skating since Junior High. Walter calls "Roller derby real." "Horatio: "Welcome to South Florida." Natalia (Eva La Rue) believes the alligator was deliberately lured there, uh that's what the bait was for. Horatio finds someone tampered with the gate and so knew the code. Matthew, the Vic, (Patrick Heusinger) was rich and retired. The Cs and the house are processed. Delko (Adam Rodriguez) finds a torn piece of paper and Me Tom (Christian Clemenson) comments he hasn't seen anything like this and fancies himself as a bit of an alligator expert. Calleigh (Emily Procter) hasn't taken a personal day to be with Delko (Adam Rodriguez) as the department lawyer doesn't want them to see each other, whilst they investigate the case from last season. Delko had to be mentioned here as he's not in this episode and was meant to leave, but stuck around. Calleigh sounds so callous when she tells Natalia (Eva Larue) that she did shoot at Delko and she's meant to have feelings for the guy. She was so non-chalant. Probably a line added in from last episode when she said, in the flashback, that she doesn't socialize with her co-workers. That line she crossed, but here makes it appear as if she doesn't mix her work and personal lives. She states, coldly, that Delko was a suspect at an active crime scene. Jesse (Eddie Cibrian) returns in the nick of time to get into the thick of it all.
