Though it was prematurely cancelled in 2012, the horror comedy TV series Todd & The Book of Pure Evil has lived on through the memories of its loyal fan base, been discovered by a new audience on home media, and will return in an animated film in the near future. Last fall, I had the great pleasure of speaking with the series' co-creators and main cast, who looked back on fighting evil... with mixed results.
In this second part of Daily Dead's retrospective on Todd & The Book of Pure Evil, Alex House (Todd Smith), Maggie Castle (Jenny Kolinsky), Bill Turnbull (Curtis Weaver), Melanie Leishman (Hannah B. Williams), Shawn Pierce (music composer), and series co-creator Craig David Wallace discuss their time on the truly unique series that showed the humor, horror, and often blood-soaked trials and tribulations of high school.

[Originally appeared in the January 2015 issue of Deadly Magazine] Think back to your worst memory of high school. If it doesn’t involve a giant bone-crushing baby, rock and roll zombies, or a Satanic guidance counselor, then you didn’t go to Crowley High, the setting for the beloved TV series Todd & The Book of Pure Evil.
Comprised of two seasons that originally aired from 2010–2012 on Canada’s Space network, Todd & The Book of Pure Evil follows Todd Smith, a heavy metal-loving high school stoner who, along with his best friend Curtis, major crush (and strongly independent) Jenny, and the brilliant Hannah, is forced to face the monsters and evil powers unleashed by The Book of Pure Evil.
The twisted tome (believed to be bound in the foreskin of Judas) can be found by the tormented, the humiliated, and the depressed—making high school its perfect home. For 26 episodes, Todd and his friends (collectively known as “the Gang”) hunt...

Featuring two members of notorious alt-metal unit Dog Fashion Disco (frontman Todd Smith and guitarist Jasan Stepp), Maryland-based “psychedelic metal” band Polkadot Cadaver essentially carries on the former group's bizarre and experimental aesthetic, with the same emphasis on macabre themes. They've toured with FEARnet faves like Wednesday 13, Wayne Static, and William Control, and this week they made “The Devil's Dozen” on Sirius Xm's station Liquid Metal. I'm kind of surprised they haven't broken bigger among horror, metal and dark rock fans, but I'm gonna do my best to improve that situation here. Their third album, which goes by the magnificently tasteless handle Last Call in Jonestown (following the equally warped but not nearly as heavy 2011 release Sex Offender), is a prime example of their dark, aggressive and slightly schizo sound. The band dubs this project “heavy as Zeus's balls,” and I think that's as good a summation of their sound...

Lawyers claim extra on Transformers: Dark of the Moon was hit by snapped cable during previously aborted action sequence
An extra on the latest Transformers film who suffered significant brain damage when a stunt went badly wrong has been rewarded $18.5m in compensation by a Chicago judge as part of a settlement.
Gabriella Cedillo, then 24, was one of 80 extras brought in to appear in the background of an action sequence shooting in the city of Hammond, near Chicago, on 1 September 2010 for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third film in Michael Bay's series. At the time of the accident, she was driving her own car, a 2006 Toyota.
In their suit, Cedillo's lawyers claimed the aspiring actor was hit by a snapped cable which had been pulling another vehicle involved in the stunt. It crashed through her windscreen and struck her in the head. Neither Paramount Pictures nor DreamWorks Studios,...

A Transformers: Dark of the Moon extra who was critically injured when a stunt went awry during production two years ago will receive an $18 million settlement. Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks agreed to the payout to cover the cost of Grabiela Cedillo's soaring medical bills, as well as the damages for pain and suffering the 26-year-old endured from the mishap, which left her with permanent brain damage. The settlement was announced by the woman's attorneys in Chicago today and approved by a Cook County judge. "She is on her feet and talking and for that we are thankful," her lawyer, Todd Smith, told reporters at a press conference. "On the other side, she has significant cognizant...

Canadian import ‘Todd & the Book of Pure Evil’ legally reaches our shores tonight. The comedy horror series began as a short film directed by showrunner Craig David Wallace in 2003, before being picked up for a pilot and following series in 2009 by Canadian channel ‘Space’. The show follows Todd Smith, a student at Crowley High, and his ‘Scooby Gang’ consisting of his best friend Curtis, brainy scientist Hannah and the object of Todd’s affections, Jenny.
Crowley High was also founded by Satanists and is the current home of a cursed Book of Pure Evil that’s a lot cheekier and more airborne than ‘The Evil Dead’s’ Necronomicon. The Book grants wishes to the distressed and troubled students of the high school, but they each go horribly wrong, leading to murder and bloodshed, in hilarious ways. Todd’s gang do whatever they can to try and stop the book, whilst...

Jason Mewes has hardly been off-the-radar since his days as one half of the indie pop culture duo Jay and Silent Bob ("Clerks," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"). He hosts a weekly podcast and a live comedy show with his Bff, director Kevin Smith. He's also, according to IMDb, got 10 movies in various states of production.
On Tuesday (Aug. 2), Mewes makes his debut as a high school custodian/sage on FEARnet HD's "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil." The show follows high school stoner Todd Smith (Alex House), who "unleashes a book of pure evil" in order to fulfill his dream of being a heavy metal guitar god. Hijinks are involved. Hilarity ensues.
Mewes's character, Jimmy, plays sort of a sensei to Todd, doling out advice -- some good, some bad.
"I'd use it probably to get [girls]," said Mewes when asked what he'd do if he had a spell book.

It’s awards season which means, among other things, that those in the movie industry must smile and make nice with their enemies and competitors while cameras are rolling. We all saw the nominees’ thin, tight-lipped smiles as host Ricky Gervais roasted them at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony. What else can they do? The world is watching.
However, on the movie set, it’s a different ballgame. Actors and directors may say everyone was a joy to work with during interviews. However, tensions run high on-set and creative types can be explosive by nature. The film set is where bridges are burned and arch-nemeses are made. As proof, we look at the 10 most-explosive on-set fights (that we know about).

*This is another in-depth review of a television series from Ed Sum.
Horror-comedy has a new name in the Canadian produced television series, "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil." When it’s mixed up early Sam Raimi style—with lots of camp and cheese—and backed up talent from the likes of show creators Craig David Wallace, Charles Picco, Anthony Leo; and fellow directors like David Winning ("Friday the 13th the TV Series," "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", "Blood Ties"), there’s a masterful chemistry that’s at work.
While some episodes are formulaic in its look at high school life, the thing that keeps people coming back for more is the strong cast of characters. Todd Smith (Alex House) is not your usual pretty boy, and nor are his friends. The shift is on the freaks and geeks.
It’s up to Todd, his best pal, Curtis...

Among his collaborators, including big names The-Dream, Fat Joe, and Richie Sambora, Rap mogul LL Cool J decides to scrap off 50 Cent from his long list. "I'm not releasing the album he and I were working on. I took a few songs for (new album) 'Exit 13' and scrapped the rest," he says.
When asked for confirmation, the rapper reveals his anxiety about fans' response concerning their first-ever collaboration. "That's due to the fact that I don't think people want to hear me rhyming like 50," he explains as saying.
"Feel My Heart Beat" is a song in which he teams up with 50 Cent and it was strongly rumored to be the first single in "Exit 13". As the removal announced, some claim that the song may be dropped from the album and replaced with The-Dream-featuring tune called "Baby", which was originally planned as the second single.
50 Cent's publicist hasn't given any statement yet.
