Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Crazy for the Storm: A Memoir of Survival, a book by Norman Ollestad that Ecco will publish in June. The film will be produced by Storyopolis co-founder Fonda Snyder, literary manager Rob Weisbach and Gerber Pictures' Bill Gerber. Ollestad's memoir recounts how his father infused his love for extreme sports in him as a boy, pressing him to become a competitive surfer and skier, experience that allowed him to survive when a plane crash stranded him on an icy mountaintop at age 11. Gc Corp., the venture capital fund headed by Adi Cohen and Joseph Grinkorn, has picked up rights to the project that had been held by the Bob Yari Co. Gc, which will secure financing, has assigned "Betsy" to Killer Films, with plans to begin filming in late autumn.
John Curran ("The Painted Veil") is attached to direct from a screenplay by Brian Edgar.
Producing are Killer Films' Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler as well as Zvi Howard Rosenman, Colleen Camp and Fonda Snyder. Cohen and John Wells will serve as exec produce.

Fonda Snyder has been named vp original movies at Disney Channel, where she will be responsible for supervising the development of the network's original telefilms.
Synder joins Disney Channel from Cookie Jar Entertainment, where she was senior vp creative development and U.S. sales, overseeing the development of more than 50 properties for multiple platforms and selling preschool, comedy and boys action animated series to such networks as Disney Channel (for Playhouse Disney), Kids' WB! and Cartoon Network.
She also co-founded and was president of Storyopolis Prods., a franchise-oriented family entertainment company encompassing production, book publishing, art gallery, exhibition space and retail outlets.
Disney Channel has seen a great deal of success with its original movies, including High School Musical, "Jump In!" and The Cheetah Girls and its sequel. When Jump In debuted in January, it became Disney Channel's highest-rated original movie with 8.2 million total viewers, breaking the record held by the August premiere of The Cheetah Girls 2 (7.8 million). The "HSM" sequel is set to debut Aug.

TORONTO -- Canadian animation producer Cookie Jar Group has hired Fonda Snyder, former Storyopolis co-Founder and president of Storyopolis Prods., to head up its programming and licensing arm in Los Angeles. Snyder was named senior vp creative development at Cookie Jar Entertainment, where she will identify, package and produce family entertainment properties, Cookie Jar said. Montreal-based Cookie Jar was recently created out of the former Cinar Corp. animation and educational publishing group by a consortium led by former Nelvana executives Michael Hirsh and Toper Taylor.

Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios are finalizing a deal to bring the children's book The Iguana Brothers: A Tale of Two Lizards to the big screen as an animated feature with John Leguizamo voicing and producing. Academy Award nominee Jeremy Pikser (Bulworth) is adapting the screenplay, which will also be produced by helmer Robert Luketic and Fonda Snyder. Fox animation president Chris Meledandri is shepherding the project with John Cohen and Lisa Fragner overseeing it for Fox and Blue Sky.
