- Born in Wisconsin, Warren Sortomme and his family moved to Orange County, California before America's entry into World War II. Served as a First Lieutanant, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II; was shot down over Germany and captured in 1944 and spent the duration of the war in Luft Stalag 13. After returning to the United States, he moved to Van Nuys, California where he served as Commander of American Legion Post 198 from 1957 to 1958.
