Game of Thrones throws its audience into the dangerous world of medieval power struggle; and while swords and fire are effective at waging wars, only political moves can prevent them. Lords and ladies of Westeros have been making political marriages for countless centuries, securing alliances and realm peace that way — and just like in the real world, those marriages rarely benefitted the wife.
After marrying a lord, a lady lost her home, family, and even her last name… Except that didn’t happen to every lady. How was Cersei Lannister different from the rest?
Not All Marriages Are Deemed Equal
In the vast majority of cases, a husband’s last name takes over after marriage. Catelyn Tully became Stark after marrying Lord Eddard; her sister Lysa became Arryn after marrying Lord Jon; and so on, and so forth. But there’s one and only case where that doesn’t happen,...

Kate Middleton‘s bravery upon announcing her cancer diagnosis proved that she appeared to be strong and confident enough to lead the United Kingdom as its eventual queen. However, there was once when Kate wasn’t as sure of herself in the royal sphere, leading Prince William to install a secret emergency royal hotline to the palace to protect her if she needed assistance.
Kate Middleton’s emergency link to the palace
In the early days of her relationship with Prince William, Kate Middleton was still a college student, insulated by St. Andrews University in Scotland from the press. However, once she and William graduated, Kate became a subject of interest from the paparazzi, who wanted to know about the future king’s girlfriend.
The stress this interest placed on Kate was insurmountable. To an outsider, the press’ treatment of Kate rang similar to that of William’s late mother,...

A new book claims Princess Diana‘s father, the late Earl Spencer, had to “convince” her to marry Prince Charles. Diana almost called off her royal wedding because Charles reportedly didn’t pay her enough attention in their relationship.
The relationship of Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles was rocky from the start
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward claimed in the book My Mother And I that the relationship between Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles was rocky from the start. Their differences were abundantly clear.
“With just over a month to go until she married the heir to the throne, Lady Diana Spencer was looking forward to dancing with her fiance,” Seward wrote in the book, excerpted by The Daily Mail. “Along with the entire royal family, she’d been invited to a party at Windsor Castle to celebrate Prince Andrew’s 21st birthday.”

Plot: Acclaimed writer Truman Capote surrounded himself with a coterie of society’s most elite women – rich, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of high society New York – whom he nicknamed “the swans.” Enchanted and captivated by these doyennes, Capote ingratiated himself into their lives, befriending them and becoming their confidante, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalization of their lives, exposing their most intimate secrets. When an excerpt from the book, Answered Prayers, Capote’s planned magnum opus, was published in Esquire, it effectively destroyed his relationship with his swans, banished him from the high society he so loved and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover.

The fifth season of the Netflix historical drama saw the separation and divorce of Diana and Charles, Prince of Wales (Dominic West) and the effect that it has on the Royal Family. Debicki’s portrayal garnered her a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for that season, and she is the lone acting nomination at the 2023 Emmy Awards for “The Crown” in Best Drama Supporting Actress. We’ve all heard about Princess Diana‘s revenge dress and the message she was trying to send to her soon-to-ex-husband and his then-mistress when she wore it in 1994. But according to a royal author who was friends with the late princess, there was another dress Diana was seen in years earlier that she rocked to make Charles’ lover (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles) go “insane.”

The Princess of Wales paid homage to Diana by wearing an essential item belonging to her husband’s late mother, Prince William, and his brother, Prince Harry. This declaration came days after saying Diana would have been a “brilliant” grandmother.

Image Source: Getty / Karwai Tang Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles's highly publicized, scandal-filled relationship began how most do: at a party. In 1971, Charles and Camilla, then Camilla Shand, were introduced at a mutual friend's event by none other than Charles's college girlfriend, Lucia Santa Cruz. Lucia, the daughter of the former Chilean ambassador to London, was said to have carried on a brief but passionate romance with Charles while he was studying at Cambridge University years earlier and insisted that she had "just the girl" for the prince before hooking him up with Camilla. While chatting at the party, they soon discovered a shared love of polo and being outdoors, and Camilla reportedly made a joke about her great-grandmother Alice Keppel having had an affair with King Edward VIII, telling Charles, "My great-grandmother was the mistress of your great-great-grandfather. I feel we have something in common." The two began dating almost immediately,...

She is back. The ghost of Diana Spencer is back. A one-minute trailer has been released online, promoting a biopic directed by Olivier Hirschbiegel, about the last years of Princess Diana's life before the fatal 1997 car crash in Paris. Earl Charles Spencer has named his daughter after his beloved sister, the late Princess Diana. The 48-year-old earl became a father for the seventh time last Monday (30.07.12) when his wife Karen gave birth to their first child together and the little girl is called Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer. Speaking about naming the baby, he said: 'She's adorable - another feisty little Spencer girl. 'We hadn't settled on a first name before the birth, but all over the world she was a symbol of selfless humanity. Charlotte is a name we both loved, and it really suits her. 'We knew that as soon as we saw her. And though it's been 15 years since Diana died, I still miss her...

A gorgeous piece of history is about to go on Sotheby's auction block, where it is expected to sell for as much as $4 million. "Beau Sancy," is a 400-year-old diamond, making it one of the world's oldest diamonds that is privately owned, according to the AP. It is a pear cut, almost-35-carat rock that is currently on display in Paris, then will travel to London and then Zurich before it will be auctioned off in Geneva on May 14.
David Bennett, Sotheby's jewelry chairman, tells its story. "It has a fascinating history, and really is a once-in-a-lifetime sale. When it was made in the 16th century, the pear cut was new, bold, and so it became the most sought-after jewel of its era. Before the 'Beau Sancy' all diamonds were rudimentary."
French King Henri IV purchased the diamond, so named for the original owner Lord of Sancy, as a gift...

Other than Stephen Frears‘s excellent The Queen, the world has yet to see a major biopic about the late Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales and mother of Prince William, the future King of England. The Queen dealt with the aftermath of her tragic auto-accident death in 1997 and featured Diana in archival footage.
Various projects dealing with the life of the beloved princess have been bandied about for a few years – with names like Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightly and Charlize Theron all variously attached to portray Diana – until solid word came down that Downfall and The Invasion director Oliver Hirschbiegel would be helming Caught in Flight.
This project focuses on Diana’s affair with Pakistani heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan and originally had current It Girl (and very talented actress) Jessica Chastain attached to portray the princess, but new reports confirm that Naomi Watts will be taking over the role.

Despite her marriage to the vampire Edward, a pregnancy for Bella sparks a new round of angst for all still concerned. This franchise, meanwhile, feels like it will live forever
Ohmigodohmigodohmigod. Just when we thought the Brokeback-style drama of Jacob and Edward couldn't get any more intense – they decide to have a child together! With Bella as the surrogate! This new ultra-emotional episode of the Twilight drama turned some Twihards into Twisofts at the screening I attended, and the person next to me was openly sniffling. So was I. For different reasons. The ongoing emo-operetta of this drama now sweeps us away on a new riptide of mawkish euphoria.
The deal is that Edward and Bella, played of course by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, have decided to get married. It's happening. It's on. And so, at first glance, the agonised abstinence debate would finally – finally – appear to be over.

Playing the parent of a satanic child brought back some disturbing memories for Tilda Swinton. As We Need To Talk About Kevin hits the screen, she talks to Kira Cochrane
In a genteel Soho dining room, with morning tea-drinkers clinking and murmuring all around us, I ask Tilda Swinton if she has ever felt monstrous. She tilts her wholesome head-boy face, with its short flop of blond hair. "Does one ever feel it," she says, "or is one simply monstrous? I mean, I've been monstrous, I think." Until recently, she says, she had a reputation in her family for having saved her younger brother's life as a child, when she had actually intended to kill him.
"I was going to kill him because he was a boy, naturally," she says, "and I already had two brothers, and that was just too much to bear." She was four and a half when she entered his room,...

Source: FilmShaft - Trailer Watch: ‘Unlawful Killing’ Set To Make Waves At Cannes
There are many subjects, many conspiracy theories, which get people talking out there. The moon landing, JFK's assassination, sadly even 9/11 has not been short of a theory or two. However there is one conspiracy in modern times which is guaranteed to get people talking, or even to make their blood boil. I'm talking of course about the subject of Keith Allen's new documentary film, Unlawful Killing - the death of Princess Diana.
On 21st August 1997 the world was in mourning for the loss of the former Princess of Wales, Lady Diana Spencer. Having died all too suddenly and all too early in a tragic car crash in Paris. Diana's strained relationship with the British royal family was well publicised and it wasn't long before the people in mourning started looking for someone to blame.
Grief is a curious thing,...

William and Kate have yet to announce when and where they'll take their official royal honeymoon, but they might want to stay away from the South of France in mid-May. That's when an inflammatory, potentially explosive new documentary will show up at Cannes, where it will screen in the marketplace, not the film festival, and make the following charges: >> Diana Spencer, the former Princess of Wales, and her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed were deliberately killed in an auto accident in Paris in 1997, most likely at the behest of the British royal...

Is Kate Middleton living every girl’s fairytale right now or what? Not only is she marrying a Prince, she has the world’s top designers offering their take on what the bride should wear!
Planning is underway for the wedding of the century, and there’s a serious case of ‘Royal Wedding Fever‘ going around! In fact, Wwd asked 29 different designers from Karl Lagerfeld to Tommy Hilfiger to come up with the perfect creation for Kate Middleton to wear when she weds Prince William. Imagine having the likes of Vera Wang, Frida Giannini, and Alberta Ferretti designing a gown for you to wear to walk down the aisle! (Note to self; that is not going to happen).
The submissions flooded in, thick and fast. Sketches ranged from, yellow (I don’t think so, Chris Benz), to Lagerfeld’s take on “the Victorian wedding dress, with a twist – high boots and open in the front,...

The man who designed Lady Diana Spencer's wedding dress has been spotted at the hotel where Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas have been staying. David Emmanuel, 47, smiled and waved as he left the Marriott Hotel in Swansea, South Wales, but did not stop to talk to reporters. Swansea-born Zeta Jones and Douglas have been staying in a suite at the hotel during their trip to show eight-week-old baby Dylan to her family for the first time. Emanuel's spokesman, Janet Fitzgerald, said the designer had been in a meeting with Zeta Jones but insisted it was not to do with the design of her wedding dress. She was seen ending her fourth day in Swansea with her soon-to-be husband in a fish restaurant, Hansons, at the Swansea Marina.

A leading Italian composer is to stage an opera based on the life and death of British royal DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES. The two-act opera, called LADY EMMA, recently won an opera competition in Prague and will open in the Czech capital next year. Composer Bruno Moretti and librettist Pasquale Plastino admit that their "modern opera" is a barely fictionalised version of "the Charles and Di story." In the opera, LADY Diana Spencer becomes LADY EMMA CAMPBELL, the Prince of Wales is called PRINCE EDWARD and Dodi Fayed is PRINCE ALI. The villains of the piece are the paparazzi, who threaten Emma's happiness throughout and end up "provoking the final catastrophe." Moretti says, "The heart of the mystery is why Edward never really loves Emma, even though all other men fall at her feet." The opera ends with the fading image of Emma waltzing with her Arab lover to the screech of tyres and the paparazzi's flashbulbs.
