Here’s your first look at the official World Premiere Trailer of filmmaker Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming horror/sci-fi film, Demonic.
The film uses a patent-pending new method of using volumetric capture (a three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects.). The amount of volumetric capture in Demonic is the most ever seen in a feature film.
Demonic – Volumetric Capture 2
When Carly Spenser (Carly Pope) learns that her estranged mother Angela (Nathalie Boltt) has fallen into a coma, she reluctantly agrees to take part in a cutting-edge therapy that will allow her to tap into Angela’s still-active brain and communicate with her. Observed by physician Michael (Michael J. Rogers) and neuroscientist Daniel (Terry Chen), she enters a harrowing simulation of Angela’s mindscape where she discovers the powerful supernatural force that
drove her mother to commit unspeakable acts of violence nearly two decades earlier. Afterward, haunted by terrifying visions,...

Neill Blomkamp is back, with the “District 9” director’s first feature film since 2015’s “Chappie.” And his latest movie “Demonic” looks like a creepy head trip that will make you question your reality.
The first teaser for “Demonic” dropped on Thursday, and the film shows a woman donning elaborate head gear that sends her into an unusual alternate dimension — or perhaps some kind of virtual reality — where instead of being wholly there, she appears all pixelated and even inverted.
There’s not too many other plot details to be found here, but Blomkamp’s film is described as a horror movie in which a young woman unleashes terrifying demons and supernatural forces when a decades-old rift with her mother is revealed.
Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael Rogers stars in “Demonic.” This is Blomkamp’s fourth movie, which he both wrote and directed, and IFC Midnight will release...

IFC Midnight said Wednesday that it is acquiring U.S. rights to Neill Blomkamp’s new film Demonic, a horror thriller starring Elysium‘s Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael Rogers. The pic, co-produced and co-financed by AGC Studios and Stabiliti Studios and which was selling international rights during last month’s European Film Market, will now be released on August 20, 2021.
The backstory to the pic, written and directed by the District 9 and Elysium helmer in his first movie since 2015’s Chappie, is interesting: Deadline scooped a couple months ago that he shot it under the radar in British Columbia over the summer during the pandemic, after he had to pause on moving forward with the AGC-backed Taylor Kitsch action thriller The Inferno because of the Covid shutdown.
The result is Demonic. The plot centers on a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at...

For the last few years, Vancouver-based Oats Studios has been home to director Neill Blomkamp and key collaborators, where they make experimental shorts when they aren’t working on his Hollywood-backed sci-fi films. This morning, the company launched a crowdfunding campaign for its first indie feature, but it’s not on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Seed & Spark. Instead, they’re using a platform built on the studio’s website, promising backers they will shoot something no matter what they raise.
Blomkamp explained the campaign isn’t simply about raising funds for “Firebase,” the feature follow-up to Oats’ popular short, but that this a first step in a multi-year journey to making Oats sustainable.
“For the average audience, crowdfunded films tend to be films that Hollywood wouldn’t make, so crowdfunding is a stepping stone toward making your film,” said Blomkamp. “This is not that. This is, ‘How do we build...
