With Andrea Pirlo leaving for the Mls, Carlos Tevez returning to Boca Juniors and Arturo Vidal on the verge of a move to Bayern Munich, some new faces will need to arrive for Massimiliano Allegri’s team. Sunderland’s 2013/14 season will go down in legend, no doubt: we’ve all read the statistics, we were all there when some of the most dazzling moments happened and Dreams were Dared to be dreamt. After all, Sunderland rarely do things the easy way and for all the moments of triumph – back-to-back derby victories, wins over Chelsea and Manchester United on the road to Wembley, and of course the Great Escape – there were still times when mistakes threatened to bring the Stadium Of Light crashing down.
Consider the Black Cats’ player of the season, Vito Manonne’s slip in the last moments at the eventual Champions, Manchester City or the poor line-up fielded by Poyet – now forgiven – away at Hull in the Fa Cup… Memorable for all the wrong reasons.
That’s not just the story of last season though, that is true of Sunderland as a whole.

The best true-crime films are usually written like tragedies. Goodfellas, Blow, Scarface, Stander; all Icarus tales about guys growing up on the fringes, becoming made men and then getting too greedy when the dirty money starts rolling in. Their rise is usually an entertaining whirlwind of glamor and excess while their downfall exposes the American dream as a breeding ground for ungentlemanly behavior. And of course, their death/capture is always depicted with a certain epic gravitas in order to give the characters mythic qualities. Say hello to my little friend! Yes, our criminals are as mythic as our heroes.

*Full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was supplied by Revolver Entertainment.
Director/writer: Sacha Bennett.
Bonded by Blood is loosely based on a group murder carried out December, 1995. The three killed were Patrick Tate, Craig Rolfe and Tony Tucker, each a drug dealer. These villains have been immortalized unjustly in three films, which include: The Essex Boys (2000), Rise of the Foot Soldier (2007) and now Bonded by Blood (2011). Likely killed by Jack Whomes and Michael Steele, who remain in prison, Bonded by Blood covers a detestable subject (drug dealing), with little depth. Revolver Entertainment will distribute this title on DVD February 1st and this film is really only for those who enjoy watching gangland styled films, as there is no positive moral tale here.
Many may have heard the story of The Intercity Firm and their coke induced exploits, but for those who have not - here is a summary.

I don’t see it as something where alarm bells are going off and you start throwing and remaking and blowing up.” Despite the nearly admirable relentlessness of Steele’s crusade, his re-election campaign has been written off by many in the media as dead-on-arrival. That said, there are degrees of fair accompli.

Whether anyone likes it or not, current Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele is running for a second term. Steele, who earlier this week declared "my style is more grass-roots oriented, I'm much more of a street guy," prompted Jon Stewart to take Steele to the only street where Stewart thinks Steele belongs: Sesame Street. What follows is a hilarious interview with Steele's puppet explaining why he's running for the position again, mainly because "that's how we do it on the street, lunch meat, when a fight comes up, we bibble down!"...

Despite earlier reports from Fox News and Politico, current Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele will indeed seek another term. Steele announced his intentions during a 7:30 p.m. conference call yesterday evening. “You do know the reason the conference call is so late?,” a tipster asked Politico’s Ben Smith. “Guam time! Guam, where America’s Day Begins! They must be on the call, take it from someone who knows about races for national party chair.” This makes sense, given’s Steele’s career-advancing affinity for the tiny island territory.

Fox News has just reported on Your World that Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele will announce tonight that he will, indeed, run for re-election. The Rnc chair's next move has been the subject of intense speculation--and rumors of high profile candidates who might throw their hats in the Rnc race--with the Rnc chair position being seen as a key determining factor in which players are prevailing as the party heads toward challenging President Obama in 2012.

The end of the Michael Steele era is reportedly nigh: according to Politico and Fox News, the Republican National Committee chairman will not dare attempt another term. Steele, for what it’s worth, is keeping mum until tomorrow night, when he has scheduled a group phone chat. “Steele sent an e-mail to committee members Saturday night with the subject line, ‘conference call,’” Fox News reports. Politico, which characterized the correspondence as “cryptic,” posted Steele’s message. It reads as follows: “Dear Members, Please join me for a private conference call, Monday December 13th at 7:30pm (Est). For your personal conference code please Rspv to ... Thank you, and I look forward to talking to you Monday evening. Michael.” Supporters of Steele ought note that the dispatch is completely gaffe-free. In any event, we’ve already discussed who might replace Steele, and why that person might have a comparatively easier time making friends.

The race for the absolute top-spot in Republican fundraising is heating up this week, as contenders for the Republican National Committee chairmanship seem more eager than ever to oust the organization’s current head, Michael Steele. Yesterday, at a debate organized by a Tea Party group, four likely contenders for the chair denounced Steele’s spotty record of fiscal and fundraising mismanagement. While it remains to be seen whether Steele will seek a second term, many of his presumptive adversaries have already formally declared their intentions to depose him. Let’s greet these exciting new faces.

No, it's not Sarah Palin-Ann Wagner could be the first woman elected head of the Republican National Committee. The former Missouri party chairwoman talks to Shushannah Walshe about Michael Steele's erratic tenure, fundraising from outside groups, and more.
It's been more than three decades since a woman last chaired the Republican National Committee. But now, as Michael Steele's controversial tenure as chairman of the Rnc appears to be ending, a woman has thrown her hat in the ring.

Rnc Chairman Michael Steele's tenure has been one of the more controversial in recent memory, and a new AP report shows many Rnc insiders are hoping his embattled reign is nearing its end. Interviewing 51 committee members, the AP found 39 were hoping Steele would not run for reelection in January, and even some of his closest allies feel this is the sunset of his time at the head of the Republican Party.

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele’s long good-bye continues today, as Politico’s Mike Allen brings word of Republican Governors Association executive director Nick Ayers’s rising star. “In 2012, the Rnc is going to play a very, very important role, so whoever they choose needs to be someone who truly has the ability to represent the party and is a highly capable individual from the standpoint of raising money and organization,” said Texas governor and incoming R.G.A. chairman Rick Perry. “And I know that Nick Ayers is a very capable young man.” Of note: Is there anything that speaks less to someone’s capabilities than calling that person a “young man”?...

Earlier this week, we reported on the uncertain future of Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele. Specifically, several top G.O.P officials are reportedly maneuvering to oust Steele from a position in which he has not quite excelled. The New York Times reported that Republican leaders were “[encouraging] a challenger to step forward to take him on” when his term ends in January. This morning, a challenger has indeed stepped forward. Saul Anuzis, former chairman of the Michigan Republican Party and former contender for the R.N.C. job, has announced he is throwing his hat in the ring. Actually, should it come down to a contest of hats, Steele would emerge victorious, and jaunty.

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele hand-delivered a victory to the G.O.P. this November, but the party’s top-ranking officials are reportedly soliciting his surrender. “Some senior party officials are maneuvering to put pressure on Michael Steele, the controversial party chairman, not to seek re-election when his term ends in January or, failing that, to encourage a challenger to step forward to take him on,” The New York Times reveals. Steele is not so much “controversial,” as the Times alleges, as he is hilarious. Before we touch upon the pervasive argument for his departure, let’s review his unparalleled comedic credentials.

After tonight, a few politicians will have new jobs, while others will find themselves unemployed. But what about Michael Steele, whose position as Rnc Chairman isn't technically up for grabs this evening? That's the question Neil Cavuto asked Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour today. Instead of giving a straight answer, Barbour instead told a story, one that highlighted the financial hardships his Party has endured under Steele. Cavuto's highly analytic mind was able to read between the lines: "It seems to be your way of saying, 'Maybe not Michael Steele.' "...

There has been no shortage of drama and intrigue surrounding tomorrow's midterm elections, but in the face of what's expected to be a significant night for the Gop is the battle over the soul of the Republican party: Tea Party vs. Establishment or "old school" vs. new. This, then, was the subtext of a recent interview with Gop Party leader Michael Steele conducted by Shepard Smith, who pulled absolutely no punches in asking some very tough questions with the at-times maligned leader of the Gop.

Politically incorrect statements made by media personnel in the U.S. might lead to firings or early retirements, but that's nothing compared to the full-on "diplomatic incident" brought on by a New Zealand broadcaster's inappropriate snickering recently.
Paul Henry, a newscaster with Tvnz in New Zealand, couldn't help making some rather obvious jokes about New Delhi's chief minister. Her name: Sheila Dikshit.
For the record, it's pronounced "Dixit."
But even after the news anchor is provided the correct pronunciation, he laughs uncontrollably while his co-anchor shakes her head.
While Tvnz has suspended Henry, the damage has already been done. Folks in New Zealand who saw the TV broadcast complained, as did Indian officials, and the New Zealand government has apologized to the Indian Government. There was even talk of trade negotiations being impeded because of the anchorman's slight against Dikshit.

Said Rachel Maddow last night: "In the last 24hrs, remarkably, the Republican party decided the party is going to adopt the single craziest position that candidate has taken in what has been a thoroughly crazy campaign."
