As Jack and the team investigate how deep the corruption runs, he discovers a far-worse reality—the convergence of a drug cartel with a terrorist organization—ultimately revealing a conspiracy much closer to home and testing our hero’s belief in the system he has always fought to protect.

Starz has unveiled a new trailer and premiere date for Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The early ’90s prequel, set in South Jamaica Queens, is set to premiere July 18 on Starz.
From creator and showrunner Sascha Penn, Power Book III: Raising Kanan takes viewers back to the ’90s and the early years of the now-deceased Kanan Stark, portrayed in Courtney Kemp’s original series by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
A prequel to the original Power franchise, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, is a sprawling family drama that revolves around the coming of age of Kanan Stark; Ghost and Tommy’s mentor, partner and adversary, who ultimately dies in a hail of gunfire in the eighth episode of Power’s penultimate season.
When we catch up with Kanan here, though, he is the fifteen-year-old only child of Raquel “Raq” Thomas, a cocaine distributor with an emerging network of dealers across the city.

“Power” fans eagerly awaiting the continuing adventures of Tommy Egan just caught a break. Variety has learned that the Starz spinoff series built around the character will no longer be the last “Power” spinoff to debut.
When Starz originally ordered the four “Power” spinoffs earlier this year, the Tommy spinoff was slated to debut last and was titled “Power Book V: Force.” Instead, it has been redubbed “Power Book IV: Force,” meaning it will debut after the prequel series “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” which is set to resume production soon for a 2021 debut. “Influence,” the prequel starring Larenz Tate as Rashad Ford, will now be “Power Book V: Influence.”

Starz has found its younger Kanan Stark for its upcoming “Power” prequel: “Raising Kanan.” Mekai Curtis will take over the role that was played by “Power” executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in the flagship series, the network announced on Tuesday.
“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is part of an expansive list of spinoffs for Starz’s burgeoning “Power” franchise; the flagship series wrapped up its six-season run earlier in February. Curtis will star alongside Patina Miller in the spinoff, who will play Kanan’s mother.
Here is the logline for the series:

Patina Miller has been cast in a leading role in the upcoming “Power” prequel “Raising Kanan.”
Officially titled “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” the series is a prequel set in the ‘90s during the early years of “Power” character Kanan Stark. Miller will star as Raquel “Raq” Thomas, Kanan’s mother. The character is described as cold, hard, and fierce; a successful and deadly woman taking names in a man’s world. As much as she cares for her son, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is, or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers.
Miller most recently starred in the CBS political drama “Madam Secretary.” Her other TV credits include “Mercy Street” and “All My Children.” She has also appeared...

Tony-winning actress Patina Miller is set to star opposite Omar Epps in Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Starz/Lionsgate’s upcoming Power prequel series created by Courtney A. Kemp.
Miller will play Raquel Thomas. To the streets, “Raq” Thomas is cold, hard and fierce — a successful and deadly woman taking names in a man’s world. She is tough, resolute, ruthless, but Raq still is capable of love. Great love. The sole recipient of that affection is her son, Kanan; he is everything to her. As much as she cares for him, though, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers. She is the sun, and everyone else in her universe exists in her orbit.

The hit Starz series “Power” is coming to an end. The upcoming sixth season of the series, which is set to debut on Aug. 25, will be the drama’s last.
Series creator and co-showrunner Courtney A. Kemp teased that new shows set in the “Power” universe are in the works.
“We will follow some of your beloved ‘Power’ characters beyond the scope of the initial series,” Kemp said in a statement. “But we will play with your expectations of which characters, where, and the master timeline of it all, creating a ‘Power’ universe as unpredictable as the original.”
Season 6 will consist of 15 episodes. It will also feature the directorial debut of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson with episode 603 as well as the return of director Anthony Hemingway for the finale. Hemingway previously directed the first two episodes of the series when it debuted in 2014.

Artist and producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has signed a new four-year overall deal with Starz. Under the agreement, Jackson will continue to develop new scripted and unscripted projects exclusively for the premium service through his G-Unit Film & Television, Inc. banner.
The deal represents a significant increase to Starz’s investment in Jackson, executive producer of drama series “Power.” It includes a three-series commitment, the addition of a dedicated development executive, and a discretionary fund for use in developing G-Unit projects.
Sources with knowledge of the agreement tell Variety that, in full success and combination with Jackson’s current series and development, it could prove to be worth as much as $150 million — making it the latest in a series of eye-popping talent deals reshaping the economics of the television business. A Starz spokesperson declined to comment on the deal’s value.

Starz has announced that Power Season 6 will be the show's "final betrayal" a.k.a. last season.
Power Season 6 is happening. The news came as Power Season 5 finished production. Now Starz has announced that Power Season 6 will be the last go around...or the "final betrayal" in Starz' preferred parlance.
Notably, while Power Season 6 will be the last we see of Power, Starz mentioned in its announcement that they continue to portray stories within the Power universe.
“Season 6 brings us to the end of what we know is just the first chapter of the Power story. However, as one chapter comes to an end, another will begin,” Carmi Zlotnik, President of Programming for Starz, said in a statement “Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent have created a world rich with complex and dynamic characters and there are a number of stories we plan to tell as...

PARK CITY -- The moribund corpse of grindhouse cinema gets jolted back to life courtesy of the Weinstein brothers and Quentin Tarantino, but the biker movie Hell Ride doesn't appear any more theatrically viable than when Planet Terror and Death Proof were jointly released last year.
Executive producer Tarantino tapped former biker-flick bad boy Larry Bishop to write, direct, produce and star in this genre homage, scheduled to roar to life from Dimension Films sometime this year before undoubtedly sputtering out once its fanboy base is quickly exhausted.
The jumbled story line centers on Pistolero (Bishop), leader of the self-styled Victors biker gang that is bent on retaliation for the murder of a fellow member by the rival 666's, fronted by the notorious Billy Wings (Vinnie Jones). With his trusted lieutenant, the Gent (Michael Madsen), riding alongside and the addition of new recruit Comanche (Eric Balfour), the Victors rumble out to exact their revenge.
Along the way, much tough talk is exchanged, naked and nearly nude women are groped and ravished and generous amounts of violence are unleashed. Frequent flashbacks sketchily outline Pistolero's personal history, in which Comanche seems to take an undue interest. All the scheming supposedly is leading to a big payoff that might be vaguely compelling if the stakes were remotely clear.
Bishop, a veteran star of several '60s and '70s biker movies -- including The Savage Seven, Angel Unchained and Chrome and Hot Leather -- summons the requisite bombast to pull off this genre exercise straight-faced.
Perfunctorily exaggerated performances (including a couple of amusing appearances by Dennis Hopper and David Carradine), period-specific zooms, swish pans and other visual tropes as well as a born-to-ride soundtrack help the film evince a degree of vitality.
But even on its own terms, Hell Ride lacks sufficient substance to be of more than quickly passing interest for all but the most devoted fans.
