With 11 feature films, six live-action series, nine animated series — and, lest we forget, one holiday special — the original “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” is starting to feel like it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. “Ahsoka” occupies an interesting spot at the nexus of “Star Wars” storytelling from the past couple decades, though.

The In Memoriam segment of the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night paid a moving tribute to several stars and movie industry folk who have died over the last year — but, as ever, social media was quick to point out the more glaring omissions.
During the telecast, the In Memoriam segment featured Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo performing a moving rendition of “Con te partirò” as pictures of talent who have died flashed on the stage behind them. “You’re not allowed to give up,” Navalny says in a clip from the film Navalny, which won best documentary feature at the 2023 Academy Awards. “If they decide to kill me, it means we are incredibly strong.”

Ahsoka hasn’t yet been officially renewed for another season, but with all of the loose threads left by the season 1 finale, it’s hard not to dream about where season 2 could take these characters.
With Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), and Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) now stranded on Peridea and Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) returning home with an army of entombed Nightsisters in tow, there is a lot at stake across not just one, but two galaxies. Now that the Nightsisters have officially made a comeback in the New Republic era, I can’t think of a better character to bring into Ahsoka than Nightsister Merrin (Tina Ivlev).
First introduced in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Merrin has since appeared in the 2023 sequel Star Wars...

It was the reunion "Star Wars" animation enthusiasts had been eagerly anticipating since Ahsoka Tano faced off against Darth Vader in the ancient Sith Temple on Malachor during the emotionally charged and action-packed "Star Wars Rebels" season 2 finale, "Twilight of the Apprentice." Titled "Shadow Warrior," the fifth episode of "Ahsoka" finally brought Snips (now significantly older and played by Rosario Dawson) face to face with her beloved mentor Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) for the first time since his death.
Or did it?
Setting aside the fact that Ahsoka and Anakin reuniting didn't necessarily mean much to those unfamiliar with "Star War" animation, it was never entirely clear whether Anakin was the real deal or a figment of Ahsoka's imagination as she slowly drowned in the oceans of Seatos after losing a lightsaber duel with the fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson). While he certainly acted like the real Anakin (and...

With the WGA strike officially over and the SAG-AFTRA strike set to follow its lead, actors and writers are free to publicly talk about the work they would've promoted in the intervening months. Perhaps one of the biggest productions that was robbed of having its biggest and brightest stars interact with eager fans is the recent Disney+ series "Ahsoka." Between original cast members like Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker and newbies like Natasha Liu Bordizzo embodying fan-favorite characters like Sabine Wren in live-action, there was a lot to get off their chest. In a new profile by Vanity Fair, both the cast and series creator Dave Filoni did exactly that.
One major tidbit involves the status of Baylan Skoll. The enigmatic figure played by the late, great Ray Stevenson was neither Sith nor Jedi despite his upbringing in the Jedi Temple, instead presenting a whole new...

Recently, it was announced that Dave Filoni would step into the role of chief creative officer at Lucasfilm, indicating a more hands-on approach to shaping upcoming Star Wars projects. Despite numerous projects in the pipeline, one that remains unconfirmed officially is the second season of ‘Ahsoka.’ Given that Filoni penned the first season, he’s the go-to person for insights into the future narrative.
In an episode of EW’s ‘Dagobah Dispatch’ podcast, Filoni not only addressed the potential second season but also delved into the late Ray Stevenson’s role and the challenges arising from his passing, considering his significant part in the story. As a quick recap, Stevenson’s character, Baylan Skoll, left his intentions ambiguous in the first season’s finale, leaving fans speculating about his plans as he stood before the statues of Mortis Gods on Peridea. Filoni characterized Baylan Skoll as a character driven by dangerous ambition.

A few days ago, massive news landed that Dave Filoni was selected as a chief creative officer for Lucasfilm, meaning that he would take a more active role in the development of upcoming Star Wars projects, and we know that there are plenty of projects in the works. However, one project that still hasn’t been confirmed in an official sense is ‘Ahsoka’ season 2, as the first season was successful and ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger.
Filoni himself wrote ‘Ahsoka,’ so he is the best person to ask what’s going to happen in the future and how the story will move forward. In EW’s Dagobah Dipatch podcast, Filoni commented on the potential second season of the show, as well as the late Ray Stevenson and the potential problems that will now arise with his passing, as he was always intended to be a massive part of the story.

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
Ahsoka made waves in the Star Wars universe by taking us further than any other canon project has gone before – an entirely new galaxy. Continuing the story of Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka follows former Jedi Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) as they try to find Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), who went missing with Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) in the Rebels series finale. The search leads both heroes and villains to Peridia, a planet beyond the galaxy far, far away in the third act of the series. It’s the first time Star Wars has traveled beyond the franchise’s major galactic setting onscreen and, according to series creator Dave Filoni, there was a clear reason why it had to happen in Ahsoka.
Given the amount of time that passes between Ezra’s disappearance and the start of Ahsoka,...

Timothy Zahn, who created Grand Admiral Thrawn in the 1990s Heir to the Empire Star Wars book series, recently talked about the direction the character could go in Season 2 of Disney+'s Ahsoka.
Although Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano and Natasha Liu Bordizzo's Sabine Wren went toe-to-toe with multiple villains in Season 1 of Ahsoka, Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral Thrawn turned out to be the main antagonist.
Some reports and rumors stated that Disney and Lucasfilm could be looking ahead at developing a Season 2 of Ahsoka, which would undoubtedly flesh out characters such as Thrawn. This is all while fans wait for Dave Filoni's culminating MandoVerse movie that could feature the Grand Admiral as the main villain.

The finale of Disney+'s Ahsoka subtly connected Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll to the Ones from Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Mortis arc, but recent concept art from the episode confirmed one element that many Star Wars fans couldn't agree on.
Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll played a major role throughout Ahsoka, and even though he didn't appear in a major way in the show's last episode, his brief scene did connect him to some of the more mystical parts of the Star Wars universe.
During Stevenson's last scene, he was shown standing atop a statue of the Father, one of the Mortis gods seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. However, the statue of the Father wasn't alone - a statue of the Son accompanied it.

Divergent author Veronica Roth is opening up about the film adaptation of her book series and the final film that never got made.
In a new interview, Roth says she was at “peace” with the fourth film of The Divergent Series getting scrapped. Lionsgate split Roth’s third book into two films for a grand finale to the franchise titling it Ascendent, but the film never saw the light of day.
“I mean, breaking things in two was all the rage at the time. That was why that decision was made,” Roth said in an interview with People. “But at that point, I think I always felt peace about it just because I knew the movies were taking a different track than the books, and if you change the lead-up, you change the ending. Once upon a time, superhero aficionados had to get their fix in the pages of comic books. On rare occasions, the adventures of those heroes were taken to the screen, with characters like Captain America and Batman starring in serialized adventures as early as the 1940s. The colorful camp of the "Batman" TV series in the '60s brought comic books to new mainstream popularity, setting the stage for the rise of blockbuster comic book movies in the late 20th century. Now, multiplexes are bursting with superhero movies, a genre that has grown to become one of Hollywood's most lucrative; in fact, four of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time have their roots in the pages of comics.
Of course, hit films inevitably breed sequels, and films featuring Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Superman, Batman and various other super-powered types with "man" in their names have habitually returned for various big-screen adventures.

Veronica Roth, author of the Divergent trilogy, has made peace with the fourth and final movie in the franchise never getting made.
After the first two movies were released, Divergent (2014) and Insurgent (2015), the third book, Allegiant, was set to be split into two parts. But the second part, which was initially titled Ascendant, never came to fruition after part one was released in 2016.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Roth said she has now accepted the way the film series concluded.

While "Star Wars" animation fans like myself will probably always be haunted wondering what might have been had "Ahsoka" been the animated "Star Wars Rebels" sequel series we always longed for, the first season of the live-action continuation we got has left the story of Ahsoka Tano in a decidedly interesting place. Picking things up from "The Mandalorian," the show has Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan (Rosario Dawson) reunite with her estranged pupil, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), to continue their hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), in the hopes of both preventing him returning to reunite the scattered remnants of the Galactic Empire and recovering their lost friend Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Their subsequent adventure takes them to a completely different galaxy far, far away, bringing the pair face-to-face with fallen Jedi, Dathomirian witches, a graveyard of purrgil or "star whale" bones, and even zombie troopers.

Out of all the Star Wars shows, "Ahsoka" has definitely been the most lore-focused by far. Throughout the season, it leans heavily on elements from the "Rebels" and "Clone Wars" animated shows to move the plot along and underscore the emotional stakes. In the season finale, we get another glimpse of a particularly strange and nebulous piece of the Star Wars canon: the Mortis gods.
All through the season, the courteous yet villainous Baylan Skoll (played by the late Ray Stevenson), a former Jedi himself, has suggested he's become disillusioned with the very idea of the Jedi and the Sith. Instead, he hints that he's on his own quest to find something else, perhaps something even more powerful. In the finale, as the rest of the characters square off in clear good vs. evil battles, Skoll has left his own apprentice and set out on a search. We finally see...

‘Star Wars’ fans were surprised in May by the sudden passing of Ray Stevenson, just a few months before the ‘Ahsoka’ series was set to be released. Stevenson played Baylan Skoll, a crucial character in the show. After his final appearance, the cast of the latest ‘Star Wars’ series on Disney+ shared a heartfelt tribute for the late actor.

Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll played a major role in Season 1 of Ahsoka, but the final scene that he was featured in may have set the character up to appear in a potential Season 2 of the Disney+ show.
Star Wars fans praised the character of Baylan Skoll throughout the eight episodes of Ahsoka, with many also complimenting the performance of actor Ray Stevenson, who tragically passed away prior to the show airing on Disney+.
Throughout Season 1 of Ahsoka, Stevenson played the role of a Force-sensitive mercenary who was a former member of the Jedi Order.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers.
The moment I was sure I did not like "Ahsoka" came when Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) finally reunites with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) in episode six. The season had been building to this major moment; Sabine had traveled so far, made so many complicated decisions and promises, and believed for so long that Ezra was still out there, alive. Ezra was her only family left, she'd said. So seeing him again is the only thing that matters.
And then when she finally finds him. . . they share a tepid hug. That's it. Ezra says he's surprised she found him, but zero surprise is evident from the way he actually says that. When he starts to ask how she did it - crucially lacking any astonishment or confusion or real emotion accompanying the question - she says, "I just want to be happy that I found you.

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
Despite losing to Grand Admiral Thrawn and getting stranded on Peridia for the foreseeable future, Ahsoka and Sabine still somehow manage to end things on a high note. They’ve both learned from each other and grown throughout the season, and now they’re truly ready to believe in themselves and trust in each other. It’s really no surprise that Sabine is finally able to use the Force once she’s strengthened her connection with Ahsoka, who makes a master’s promise to always have her padawan’s back, no matter what.
It’s why despite everything that’s happened, Ahsoka and Sabine seem very much at peace with their grim circumstances at the end of the season. “Ezra is where he needs to be, and so are we,” Ahsoka tells her apprentice as they walk off to join their new friends,...

This post contains spoilers for the season finale of "Ahsoka," "The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord."
A lot transpires in the season 1 finale of "Ahsoka," which ends with a long-awaited homecoming, mingled with the ominous promise of a frightening masterplan in motion. Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) find a way to strengthen their bond while making sure that Ezra (Eman Esfandi) finally returns home, although they're unable to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) from escaping to Dathomir. There are questions that still need answering, including the reason why Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) abandoned his padawan and chose to walk away in the heat of battle, only to appear standing on top of a pair of statues that resemble the Argonath from "The Lord of the Rings." While Baylan's motivations were shrouded in mystery from the get-go, the appearance of these statues makes matters more convoluted.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 8 — "The Jedi, The Witch, and the Warlord." As Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) makes his final preparations to return to his own galaxy, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and Huyang (David Tennant) do their best to stop him. Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Ahsoka, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and written by Dave Filoni.
Heading into tonight’s Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, fans knew we were flying to a cliffhanger; that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) would make the jump to hyperspace via the space loop while some portion of Ahsoka and friends would be left behind without a prayer in the midst of the green tundra tumbleweeds of Peridea in a galaxy far, far away.
What didn’t happen in this episode were any major cameos from Star Wars canon dramatis personae of yore, i.e., Princess Leia or Luke Skywalker or Boba Fett or Baby Yoda. No, we got our fill of that with C-3Po in the last episode, when he appeared to defend Hera’s rogue mission before the snarky Galactic council.
Where do we go from here?...
