Ben Affleck is enjoying time with his kids — and getting ready for his next big movies.
The morning after announcing on his Facebook page that he had completed rehab for alcohol addiction, Affleck was business as usual as he was spotted taking his kids to school. A source tells People that the actor is relishing time with his children Violet, 11, Seraphina, 7, and Sam, 5, now that he’s back home.
“Ben is spending special time with all the kids separately,” the source says. “He seems very happy. The mood in general seems very upbeat. The kids are thrilled that he is back.

Warner Bros. Pictures has signed "In the Heart of the Sea" author and "The Town" co-scribe Aaron Stockard to pen an adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick's novel "Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution".
Originally set up three years ago as a possible directing vehicle for Ben Affleck, that possibility still remains with Affleck, Matt Damon and Jennifer Todd to produce the film through through their Pearl Street company.
The book deals with the events leading up to 1775's bloody Battle of Bunker Hill in Boston where two-hundred British soldiers were killed and the battle was a turning point in the Revolutionary War. It ultimately gave encouragement to colonists by demonstrating that the local militias could stand up to British troops.
The story centers around 33-year-old physician Joseph Warren who was leader of the Patriot cause. Paul Revere, George Washington, British General Thomas Gage and his successor William Howe...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still pulling in the cash in theaters, but it’s generating even more in the way of extreme reactions. One of the few areas audiences seem to agree on is that Ben Affleck gives a solid performance as the more mature but far angrier Batman/Bruce Wayne. That’s a good thing too as he’s scheduled to reprise the role in at least four more films. Affleck is also set to direct one of those features, the standalone Batman reboot, and we can all probably agree that that’s good news as well. He’s only directed three previous films — a fourth, Live By Night, is due in 2017 — but all three have been varying degrees of fantastic. His first film, 2007’s Gone Baby Gone, remains his best and delivers a rare mix of thrills and affecting character drama. That ending — even on repeat viewings it hits with a painful...

Update, 12:04 Pm: By Warner Bros jumping aboard the high-profile Johnny Depp-Joel Edgerton pic Black Mass, it means the studio won’t be taking on another Whitey Bulger project in its own backyard: the one that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon had been developing for a couple of years as a starring vehicle for Damon via their Warners-based Pearl Street Films. I’m hearing that Affleck and Damon were given a day or two advance notice that the studio was putting its eggs in the Black Mass basket, but that news came just a day before the latest rewrite was turned in by Aaron Stockard, who worked with Affleck on The Town and Gone Baby Gone and who rewrote the script by Oscar nominated The Wolf Of Wall Street scribe Terence Winter. There was much enthusiasm, then radio silence, and then…Naturally there are bruised feelings that Warners...

Last year at this time, Argo had just surpassed the $100 million mark at the box-office on its way to winning three Oscars, including the statue for Best Picture. Ben Affleck’s true Hollywood story of the CIA’s risky mission to rescue six U.S. diplomats from the angry hive of the Iranian Islamic revolution in 1979 was bold, confident filmmaking, and his emergence as a sentimental favorite during awards season was as delightful as it was unlikely, considering the many ups and downs of his career. Fifteen years after Good Will Hunting, 10 years after Gigli, and five years after becoming...

With Ben Affleck’s upcoming role as Batman stealing the headlines lately, one project of his that has really been brushed out of mind is the Whitey Bulger film that he’s set to direct his childhood buddy Matt Damon in. We haven’t heard anything about it in a while now but this week we’re receiving word that Warner Bros. and Affleck are bringing scribe Aaron Stockard on board to do some re-writes on the script, which hopefully means fresh life for this long-awaited project.
Stockard and Affleck previously worked together on Gone Baby Gone and The Town, the latter of which being the film that proved for many that Affleck is a legitimate director and has a bright future behind the camera. We don’t know a ton about the Whitey Bulger project just yet but it’s been confirmed that Affleck, his brother Casey and Matt Damon will all star.

One of Ben Affleck's first I'm-a-serious-filmmaker-now-so-stop-making-fun-of-"Gigli"-already efforts was 2010's "The Town," a heisty movie with a few feels and lots of fun quotables.
Affleck co-wrote the scripts for both "The Town" and his directorial debut "Gone Baby Gone" alongside fellow Boston-lover-slash-apparent-crime-scene-aficionado Aaron Stockard — who, back then, was only barely IMDb-worthy for his production assistant status on "Good Will Hunting."
According to Deadline, this little dream team is now set up for a third go-round at the writer's table for Warner Bros.' Whitey Bulger pic (ya know, after he handles s**t in the Batcape for a while for the same studio).
Whitey Bulger, of course, is the famed Boston crime boss who ducked the fuzz for almost two decades before finally being snatched up in California and thrown in the slammer. Affleck's take is but one of several projects currently developing around the notorious Bulger,...

"The Town" and "Gone Baby Gone" scribe Aaron Stockard is re-teaming with filmmaker Ben Affleck for the Whitey Bulger movie in development at Warner Bros. Pictures and Pearl Street.
Warners is making a deal with Stockard to do script work on the movie which Affleck plans to direct. Matt Damon will play Bulger, New England’s most notorious gangster. Ben and his brother Casey Affleck are also expected to have onscreen roles.
"Boardwalk Empire" creator Terrence Winter penned the current draft of the script which Stockard will now polish. Affleck and Damon are producing.
The story will deal with Bulger’s youth, his stint on Alcatraz, his rise to power, and his double life as an FBI informant.
The project isn't to be confused with Barry Levinson's rival Bulger project "Black Mass" at Cross Creek/Exclusive Media. This film also won't be happening for a good while due to Affleck's busy schedule.

First announced back in 2011 , Ben Affleck has plans to direct a Whitey Bulger biopic with Matt Damon targeting the Bulger role. Today, Deadline reports that the project is once again gaining some traction as Warner Bros. has brought aboard Gone Baby Gone and The Town screenwriter Aaron Stockard to rewrite the screenplay. Bulger, now 84 years old, is a former organized crime figure from Boston, Massachusetts. He was said to be a "Robin Hood"-style social bandit who targeted drug kingpins and illegal gambling operations. Beginning in 1975, Bulger served as an informant for the FBI, which ignored his organization in exchange for information on the Italian American Patriarca crime family. In 1994, there was a pending indictment under the Rico act, causing Bulger to...

Screenwriter Peter Craig only has one produced credit to his name, but it's a damn good one. A few years back, Craig teamed up with Ben Affleck and Aaron Stockard to adapt Chuck Hogan's Prince of Thieves and the result wasThe Town, one of the best crime dramas to come out in the last decade. Today Craig landed a brand new project, and while it likely won't have a lot in common with The Town in terms of tone or content, one can hope that he brings the quality. Screenwriter Aaron Stockard has drawn praise and accolades for his skills in adapting harrowing crime novels into gritty thrillers. He and actor/director/screenwriter Ben Affleck collaborated to create the 2007 kidnapping drama Gone Baby Gone, based on Dennis Lehane’s Boston-based detective novel, and the 2010 heist thriller The Town, inspired by Chuck Hogan’s Prince of Thieves. Both films were a hit with critics, and the latter, a bank robbery narrative, fittingly made bank. So it’s little wonder Stockard’s being brought on to adapt more tales of crime and betrayal.
Thunder Road Pictures, which co-produced The Town, has joined with Brazillian company Rt Features to produce an adaptation of Thomas Perry’s Strip. And they’ve hired Stockard to turn what Publisher’s Weekly calls a “rambunctiously entertaining L.A. crime novel” into a sultry (and surely action-packed) thriller. Writing crime screenplays seems to be working out pretty well for Aaron Stockard. After serving as an assistant on flicks such as Good Will Hunting and The Talented Mr. Ripley, Stockard broke big by adapting Dennis Lehane's Gone Baby Gone with Ben Affleck. That movie helped establish a new phase of Affleck's career as a director, so it's not surprising that Stockard reteamed with Ben on The Town. While Affleck is nowhere to be seen on Stockard's new project, he is sticking with the genre that's cemented his career: Deadline reports that he will adapt Thomas Perry's crime novel Strip for Rt Features and Thunder Road Pictures. Published in 2010, Strip centers around a series of crimes and confrontations beginning with the robbery -- appropriately enough -- of a strip club owner. After Claudio "Manco" Kapak is held up by a masked robber who swipes the day's earnings,...

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."

Writers Guild of America (WGA) have revealed the winners of the awards for best original, adapted, and documentary screenplays. As previously reported, "The King's Speech," "Winter's Bone," "Another Year" and "Toy Story 3" were not eligible for the award, despite being nominated for Oscars. The big winner was Christopher Nolan for his work on "Inception," beating out "Black Swan" and "The Fighter." "This is one of things I'm most proud of," he said, noting that his script for "Memento" wasn't eligible for the WGA Awards nine years ago. Aaron Sorkin also won for "The Social Network" screenplay. "I wrote a good script but David Fincher made a great movie," he said. The list of nominees and winners (in red): Original Screenplay * Inception (Christopher Nolan) * Black Swan (Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz, John McLaughlin) * The Fighter (Scott Silver, Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson) * The Kids Are All Right (Lisa Cholodenko, Stuart Blumberg...

As we march ever closer towards the Academy Awards, the smaller ceremonies that give us an idea of what to expect at the biggest awards show of them all continue. Tonight, the WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) Awards were handed out, and the winners are…kind of who you’d expect.
And those people who you’d kind of expect to be winners are Aaron Sorkin, claiming the Best Adapted Screenplay award for The Social Network, based on Ben Mezrich’s nonfiction book The Accidental Billionaires. Nabbing the award for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan, for Inception. Additionally, Charles Ferguson picked up the Best Documentary Screenplay award for his film Inside Job.
The other nominess in the Adapted Screenplay category were Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy for 127 Hours; John Requa and Glenn Ficarra for I Love You, Phillip Morris; Peter Craig and Aaron Stockard and Ben Affleck for...

“Inception” has finally gotten some real love.
It’s been a bit puzzling as to why Christopher Nolan’s expertly structured and endlessly fascinating sci-fi tale hasn’t been getting more attention from industry award-givers. While it’s received kudos for its technical prowess, “Inception” has yet to be truly acknowledged for its significant achievements in directing, writing and acting.
Until now, as Nolan’s script was given the award for Best Original Screenplay by the Writers Guild of America at the WGA Awards. “Inception” emerged the winner against some extremely strong competition, including “The Kids Are All Right” and “The Fighter.”
Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin’s script for “The Social Network” took home the award for Best Adapted Screenplay (no surprise there) and Charles Ferguson’s “Inside Job” won for Best Documentary Screenplay. Both films were winners at the recent Directors Guild Awards as well.

No big surprises here as the Writers Guild of America announced their winners tonight and Aaron Sorkin's script for The Social Network and Christopher Nolan's script for Inception took home top honors. Charles Ferguson's script for Inside Job was also awarded for Best Documentary Screenplay.
It's important to note that screenplays for Oscar nominated films such as The King's Speech, Winter's Bone, Toy Story 3 and Another Year were all ineligible for the WGA awards as the WGA restricts "nominations to films that are written for productions that are signatories to the guild's Minimum Basic Agreement, or the agreements of several affiliated international guilds... their purpose is to honor the best films produced by WGA members, or under WGA guidelines."
So, if you currently predict David Seidler's screenplay for The King's Speech is the likely Oscar winner over Nolan's Inception script then perhaps these awards don't mean as much to you.

Last year, noticing that studios throughout Hollywood were posting the screenplays for their “Oscar movies” online for free, I compiled the download links for every screenplay I could find and posted them to this site. The article was a hit, many of the screenplays were downloaded, and things went quiet…until a few months ago, when the page started getting a lot of traffic again, no doubt thanks to the start of this year’s Oscar season.
The problem was, a lot of those studio sites from last year have been taken down, so if, say, you try to click the link to download the Avatar script, you get an ugly Not Found error. I won’t make that same mistake again: this year, I’ve downloaded all the new screenplays and stored them here, so the links will always work.

Oscar nomination ballots are due back at AMPAS headquarters today, so I thought I wouldn’t wait any longer than necessary to share with you what I believe the resulting field will look like when it is revealed early on the morning of Tuesday, January 25. I urge you to keep in mind that what follows is not what I feel should happen — that can be gleaned from reading my year-end top 10 list — but rather what I think will happen, based on months of screenings (I’ve seen all of the likely nominees at least once), observations (of critics, guilds, and other awards-bestowers), and conversations (with pundits and voters). I have historically done quite well when it comes to forecasting the nods — for instance, I projected best picture nominations for “The Reader” (2008) and for “The Blind Side” (2009) when virtually no one else did — but only time will tell as far as this year is concerned.

Great heist films don’t come along often because the genre typically requires one of two things: an unexpected twist or elaborate scheme to keep the audience guessing or a taut game of cat and mouse with the crafty team just mere steps ahead of a tireless detective. Plot holes and less than satisfying pay-offs often prove ruination for the genre (Ocean’s 12, Ocean’s 13, Armored, etc.), and it really should come as no surprise. Attempting to thrill and/or fool a modern audience gets harder every year as they learn to look around the metaphorical corner for the trick, but that’s the way it’s supposed to be. If perfect heists were so easy to plan they’d be a lot more common in everyday life. Instead, we’re left to savor the occasional moment of brilliance when a film comes along that either holds an unforeseen ace...

HollywoodNews.com: The Writers Guild of America threw a major kudo at the largely-overlooked big screen comedy ‘I Love You Phillip Morris’ which stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as lovers who meet in prison.
John Requa & Glenn Ficarra are among the five nominees in the adapted screenplay category for their script which was based on the book by Steven McVicker.
Their competition is ‘127 Hours’ by Danny Boyle & Simon Beaufoy; ‘The Social Network’ by Aaron Sorkin; ‘The Town’ by Peter Craig and Ben Affleck & Aaron Stockard and ‘True Grit’ by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen.
The film focuses on a love affair between a con man (Carrey) and his cellmate (McGregor). Carrey’s character commits all kinds of crazy misdeeds, like breaking out of Texas prisons four times, to be with his lover.

Yesterday the producers, today the writers. Tomorrow, presumably, the caterers and grips (my sources tell me the duck confit on the "Clash of the Titans" set was on point). Yes, the Writers Guild of America have announced their picks for finest movies of 2010. And writers must have a unique perspective on cinematic excellence, right? A better or at least different knowledge of what makes a script and a film great? No, they pretty much like all the same movies we do. And the nominees are:

The Writers Guild of America (WGA), West (Wgaw) and East (Wgae) have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in writing for the screen during 2010.
The WGA said that many acclaimed films were not eligible. They include: Another Year, Biutiful, Blue Valentine, The Ghost Writer, The King’s Speech, Made in Dagenham, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Toy Story 3 and Winter’s Bone. Of course, last year great screenplays like Inglourious Basterds and An Education didn’t make the cut, and those went on to get Oscar nominations later in the same month.
Winners will be honored at the 2011 Writers Guild Awards held on Saturday, February 5, 2011, simultaneously at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel-Grand Ballroom in Los Angeles and the Axa Equitable Center in New York City.
Both the “Original Screenplay” and “Adapted Screenplay” categories have matched the Academy Awards 11 out of the last 16 years.

The Writers Guild of America has announced their nominations for the best screenplays of 2010. If you are like me and you like to bet on who’s going to win at the Oscars, you will want to take a close look at the nominees. The Writers Guild of America is one of the strongest voting bodies in Hollywood and usually a reliable predictor for Oscar gold. In fact the winner of the WGA award has gone on to win the Oscar in the same category 11 of the last 16 years. Oscar favourites Winter’s Bone, Toy Story 3 and The Kings Speech failed to meet eligibility requirements to be considered, and was therefore disqualified (as were a number of other scripts).

The Writers Guild of America has announced their nominations for the best screenplays of 2010. Like the Producers Guild nominations, these specialized lists are typically an excellent bellwether for Oscar enthusiasts (or gamblers). However, it’s important to note that critically acclaimed films like Toy Story 3, The King’s Speech, Winter’s Bone, Never Let Me Go, Biutiful, and How to Train Your Dragon were deemed ineligible by the guild for various reasons.
I’m surprised to see a nod for The Social Network, not because it’s not a brilliant piece of work by Aaron Sorkin, but because he gave the guild a solid drubbing at a recent round table discussion with a few other notable screenwriters. It’s also strange to see I Love You Phillip Morris receiving any kind of awards consideration, especially in an extremely competitive year of great screenplays.

The Producers Guild of America and Writers Guild of America have announced the nominees for their own 2011 awards. It comes out as no surprise anymore that such movies as "Inception" and "Black Swan", which have received a lot of praises during 2010, land nods at both prize-giving events.
