“No One Will Save You,” the tale of a young woman (Kaitlyn Dever) battling extraterrestrial foes, just premiered on Hulu. In many ways it’s the ultimate scary alien invasion movie, throwing in menacing extraterrestrial intruders, abductions, ominously hovering UFOs and even a creepy “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” motif with gooey creatures nestled in your throat. It’s very scary and very good – so good, in fact, that you’ll probably have a hankering for more creepy stories of alien visitation.
To that end, here are five more scary-as-hell alien movies to watch after you finish “No One Will Save You” – and where you can watch them right now.

When Wolfgang Petersen burst onto the scene with his WWII submarine masterpiece "Das Boot," Hollywood came calling. Any director who could pin audiences to their seats for two-and-a-half hours with a film that rarely leaves the interior of a U-boat surely had the skills to enthrall viewers with a mainstream blockbuster. While Petersen proved more than reliable with smashes like "In the Line of Fire," "Outbreak," "Air Force One," and "The Perfect Storm," he occasionally found himself attached to ambitious projects that, for one reason or another, failed to launch or launched without him at the helm.
Petersen, who died on August 12, 2022, at the age of 81, left behind a litany of what-ifs. He was in the mix on several tantalizing projects that could've changed the complexion of superhero and YA filmmaking; there's an alternate universe in which Petersen revived the DC universe with a Batman and Superman mash-up in the early 2000s.

Tony Scott was no stranger to remakes, having provided his take on 1974 classic The Taking of Pelham 123, and even considered updates on The Warriors and The Wild Bunch before he sadly took his own life in 2012. Now, with a sequel to his mega-hit Top Gun arriving later this year, his debut film The Hunger is also being revisited in the form of a remake.
Deadline reports that Angela Robinson (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women) will direct the project while Jessica Sharzer will be scripting. The 1983 original, led by Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon (with a brief appearance by Willem Dafoe in one of his very first roles) follows a love triangle between a couple that happens to be vampires and a doctor who is dedicated to sleep and aging research.

1981 was the Year of the Werewolf in horror; An American Werewolf in London and The Howling were easily the leaders of this particular pack, with Larry Cohen’s comedy Full Moon High offering up another unique monster spin. There was one other film that put its own twist on lycanthropy, and that’s Michael Wadleigh’s Wolfen, laden with social commentary writ large in place of silver bullets and gypsy fortune tellers. And it’s all the better for it.
Released Stateside in July by Orion Pictures, Wolfen (based on the novel by Whitley Strieber) only returned $10 million on its $17 million budget; critics however were very kind, unlike audiences who probably were expecting more traditional tropes for a trip to the movies. Among her many feature film and television credits, Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead) seems to return time and again to the sci-fi and horror genres, and especially to aliens. Hurd notably collaborated with James Cameron to bring to life the nightmarish alien queen of Aliens (1986), and she thinks it’s time to make aliens scary again. That’s part of her stated goal as an executive producer of Syfy’s new series Hunters. Inspired by Whitley Strieber’s novel Alien Hunter, the series, featuring Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), follows a highly classified government organization known as the Exo-Terrorism Unit, which tracks and fights … Continue reading →

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
If the advertisements for Syfy’s new series Hunters were promising in their silly mish-mash of modern-day terrorism and B-movie monsters, it might not have been exactly because of the premise itself. In retrospect, Hunters piqued my interest because of the quality turn-around the network took with the largely solid first seasons of The Expanse and The Magicians.
I saw a commercial for Hunters during a particularly fun episode of the latter and, I admit, my enthusiasm for the network’s attempted return to Battlestar Galactica-level TV made me ready to consume everything on offer.
The problem with Hunters, then, is a tragically awkward disconnect between a silly premise (alien terrorists) and aggressively dour tone, one that’s only exacerbated by particularly lame world-building. It’s got the case-of-the-week camp vibe of the Warehouse 13 era, but showrunner Natalie Chaidez overly course-corrects...

Varo Venturi's Day 6 is another genre outing that has made its rounds under different titles: Alien Exorcism (U.S.), Alien Encounter (U.K.), 5 Giorni Sulla Terra (Italy), Eirian-Baasasu-Ekusoshituto (Japan), and 6 Days on Earth. Now out on DVD from One 7 Movies, Day 6 introduces a story that is intriguing but tests the audiences' patience by inundating them with so much information that it becomes a bit much to follow. Although spoken (and apparently also dubbed) in English, there are no subtitles, and their absence is heavily felt. In a nutshell, the film is a fair attempt of mixing aliens with evil spirits. Dr. Davide Piso (Massimo Poggio) is a scientist who has dedicated his life's work to the study of alien abductions. You would think that he would have taken notes from Whitley Strieber's 1987 book on the subject, Communion, as he speaks with and studies people who claim to have been abducted.

To be tiled simply "Hunters," the series will be based on a novel that tells the story of a brilliant police detective's obsessive investigation into the mysterious disappearance of his wife, which he eventually concludes wasn't at all voluntary, even though it initially appears that way. Somebody is taking people and making it look like they walked out on their own. As the detective gets closer to the truth, his work comes to the attention of Special Agent Diana Glass, a...

The '80s was a great decade for werewolf movies. 1981 alone gave us two stone-cold classics of the genre: Joe Dante's "The Howling" and John Landis's "An American Werewolf in London." But what of Michael Wadleigh's "Wolfen"? The 1981 adaptation of Whitley Strieber's novel may be less fondly remembered than its contemporaries, but it enjoys something of a cult status today, hailed by admirers for its mixture of social commentary, police procedural and straightforward horror elements. (Some would even argue that it's not really a werewolf movie at all.) Now, more than 30 years on from its theatrical debut, "Wolfen" is hitting Blu-ray for the first time -- and to mark the occasion we're posing the question: what is the best werewolf movie of the 1980s? Are you a "Company of Wolves" adherent? A "Teen Wolf" aficionado? Or do you prefer the low-budget charm of Larry Cohen's...

Speaking at Loyola Marymount University's School of Film & Television, "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd has spoken about the proposed companion series to AMC's mega-rating zombie series.
According to THR, Hurd confirms that production on the pilot has already wrapped, but AMC has not ordered the pilot to series as yet. Hurd says her immediate next project is "Hunters," Syfy's upcoming direct-to-series adaptation of the Whitley Strieber novel "Alien Hunter".
Speaking of Syfy, TV Line claims that despite the rumors last week that the cable channel might take over the reins of NBC's ratings-challenged supernatural drama "Constantine," they've done some digging and found "zero truth to the rumor".
NBC has yet to officially make a decision on the fate of "Constantine".

Early last month, the Museum of Modern Art screened The Hunger, the atmospheric 1983 vampire film that stars Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve. The vamps of The Hunger predated the vamps of Twilight in that they had no fangs and could day-walk — but if they didn't or couldn't sleep, they would age rapidly. (As David Bowie learned to his dismay). Sarandon chatted with Vulture about vampire vogue, the original ending, and how that Thelma & Louise selfie came about. When you introduced the film, you said you thought it was about one thing when you signed up for the film, but then it changed for you? Do you mean as far as the meaning of the movie, or the rules put forth in the book by Whitley Strieber? Not as far as the meaning of the movie, but what I felt was my character's idea, and why I did the movie,...

Syfy knows they messed up. Now they have a plan to win you back. The cable network’s top executives won’t say this in such blunt language, but they acknowledge that somewhere along the line, the network missed an opportunity to have more great scripted dramas. It happened sometime after the name change from Sci Fi Channel to Syfy and the conclusion of Battlestar Galactica—the acclaimed series that was once mentioned by critics alongside titles like Mad Men and The Sopranos as representing TV's top-tier of storytelling. Once the weary Battlestar crew decided to settle on Earth in the show’s 2009 series finale,...

Syfy has announced plans to renew both "Dominion" and "Defiance" for additional seasons. Both orders are for thirteen more episodes of each to air next Summer. The pair had been the only current original dramas on the network that had not yet been confirmed for renewal.
"Dominion," a pseudo-sequel to the 2010 film "Legion," is set after a war between mankind and angels. The humans still living in a now fortified Las Vegas await the coming of a chosen one who happens to be a young sergeant (Chris Egan).
"Defiance" is the high profile aliens among us series that launched with a tie-in video game. The game was forgotten, but the show remains a solid performer. Both shows averaged 2.7 million viewers an episode with 1.2 million in the key demo.

Fans of the Alien Hunter novel rejoice, it’s getting a TV version called Hunter with a The Walking Dead producer…
Syfy (Dominion, Helix, formerly Battlestar Galacticia) is looking to invest even more in geeky programming it would seem – news today broke that they’re working on a new series based on the best-selling novel Alien Hunter by Whitley Strieber.
Strieber is a prolific author, whose work has previously been adapted thrice for the big screen – Wolfen, The Hunger and Communion (all in the 1980s) were the resultant films.
The new show will be titled Hunters, and will run for thirteen episodes. Gale Anne Hurd, an executive producer for The Walking Dead, is on board to produce the show, which should premiere in 2016.
The novel centred around a cop disappearing in Philadelphia and the existence of a covert government team hunting for extra-terrestrial terrorists. It will be adapted for screen by Heroes’ Natalie Chaidez.

Syfy has just ordered Alien Hunter to season/series. The network is looking to grow their own original dramas and know that shows wrapped around the supernatural succeed. The end of the world based series that shows aliens as terrorist taking over will be a good start for the network. Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd of The Walking Dead is working with Natalie Chaidez on the Whitley Strieber inspired show. Syfy ordered up a first season batch of 13 episodes (a nice play on supernatural) and will premier in 2016. Here is what Syfy had to say about the order of the series.
We were so impressed by the pilot script from this outstanding and accomplished creative team led by Gale Anne Hurd and Natalie Chaidez that we bypassed the traditional process and greenlit Hunters directly to series….This fast-paced and innovative program takes viewers inside a chilling yet all too familiar world.
