“Hamilton” director Thomas Kail and Jennifer Todd have signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television, a division of Disney Television Studios.
As part of the multi-year pact, which began in February, Kail and Todd have formed a new television company that will develop for all platforms under Kail’s Old 320 Sycamore banner.
Per 20th Century Fox TV, “The deal covers the pairs’ development of television projects only; Kail will separately produce films under his Old 320 Sycamore Pictures banner and Kate Sullivan will continue to serve as head of development for both companies with Kelly Applegate serving as creative executive. Todd will continue producing films under her own banner, Jennifer Todd Pictures, which has a first-look feature deal with MGM. Brittany Hapner will continue to oversee projects for Jennifer Todd Pictures, and will work for both entities.”

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees in the motion picture and television categories for its 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards; nominees include recent Golden Globe winners “1917,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” “Missing Link,” “Succession,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl.”
The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 21 of its 30 years, including “The Green Book” last year and “The Shape of Water” in 2018.
The PGA uses a preferential balloting system that’s similar to that employed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The PGA and AMPAS both expanded their voting for the top film to 10 nominees in 2009. About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.
On the TV side, among all of the drama and comedy nominees, only “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (last year’s comedy winner) is a repeat from last year.

If they are going to remake movies, I am totally down with changing the genders. A gender reversal automatically gives the premise a new dynamic so the same story can have different themes. Overboard reinvents a classic for 2018. Kate Sullivan (Anna Faris) is a single mom supporting three daughters by working two jobs and studying to be a nurse. Leonardo Montenegro (Eugenio Derbez) is a spoiled rich heir whose entitled behavior costs Kate one of those jobs and puts her further in debt. When Leonardo falls off his yacht and gets amnesia, Kate’s boss and best friend Theresa (Eva […]

Fox is betting big on remakes and reboots next season – but Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden says there’s a strategy behind it.
The network’s new takes on “Lethal Weapon” and “The Exorcist,” plus reboots of “24” (now “24: Legacy”) and “Prison Break” had critics questioning Fox’s bounty of pre-existing intellectual properties. But Walden told reporters Monday at the Television Critics Association that “our hope was that well-known titles, if and only if well executed, would lighten the load on our marketing team.”
Said Walden: “The objectives from marketing are, you want to build awareness, intent to view, and you want to link shows to your network. Recognizable titles help us majorly with one of those objectives. Then the shows have to win the day.”
Still, “reboots are not a guarantee of success, and we know that as well as anyone,” said Walden, whose network failed last season...

20th Century Fox TV has signed deals with two of the key auspices behind Fox’s well received and highly rated Grease: Live, director Thomas Kail and producer Marc Platt. Somehow I missed Norman Jewison’s Other People’s Money when it was released in 1991, but now courtesy of the Warner Archive Collection, I was able to catch up with this minor but enjoyable film.
Based on Jerry Steiner’s play of the same name, with a screenplay by Alvin Sargent, Other People’s Money is mostly notable as Gregory Peck’s last major screen performance. Peck turns in one of his signature honorable roles as Andrew Jorgensen, a successful but principled businessman who is ultimately more invested in his employees and maintaining integrity than in enlarging his company’s bottom line. That’s why he and his wife Bea (Piper Laurie), along with manager Bill Coles (Dean Jones), are determined to keep New England Wire and Cable out of the ruthless hands of corporate raider Larry the Liquidator (Danny DeVito). Way out of their depth, they call in a secret weapon,...

It was back in March that we first caught wind of Bartkira, the animated fusion of Akira and The Simpsons based on a fan-generated 'zine project by Ryan Humphrey and James Harvey. After having contributed art to the printed version of Bartkira, artist / illustrator / animator Kate Sullivan approached the duo about producing an animated trailer based on the work and while the animation was always intended to be a simple trailer to see if it could be done, the artwork that spread back in the spring created such a stir that you couldn't help but wonder if they've given any thought to expanding the scope of their creation. And hopes for that will only rise further now that the full trailer has arrived...

“The Vivien Leigh Anniversary Collection”
Another Wtw, another Cohen Media Group release. Seriously, the good folks at Cohen have been doing an amazing job of finding relatively obscure classics and recent foreign films and polishing them like they’re beloved worldwide. They’re rivaling Criterion and Scream Factory as studios for which every release truly matters. Their latest is a collection of four early films from the legendary Vivien Leigh, an actress best-known for “Gone with the Wind” and a true Hollywood icon.
