The new HBO series “The Gilded Age” hails from “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, and much like that hit period series, this one features a lot of characters. Several cadres of characters keep the plot pivoting back and forth between households and prominent locations around 1890s New York, as the show tells a story of New York City on the cusp of change, where the battle between old money and new money — as well as old and new ways of doing things — is being fought.
A mix of veteran actors and actresses balance out some newer talent in Julian Fellowes’ latest fictional show — from “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon to Meryl Streep’s youngest daughter Louisa Jacobson, who plays a main heroine at the heart of aristocratic New York City.

Actor who made her name in comedy films as an acid-tongued, gravel-voiced tyrant
Eileen Brennan, who has died aged 80, had been a stage actor since the late 1950s, but it was as a largely comic presence in Us cinema of the 1970s and early 1980s that she was most widely admired. As the pitiless Captain Doreen Lewis, putting a dippy new recruit – Goldie Hawn – through her paces in the hit military comedy Private Benjamin (1980), she wore her trademark look: a solid frizz of red hair, a clenched, sneering smile and an expression of withering incredulity. Then there was the gravelly voice: a heard-it-all whine to match that seen-it-all face. It sounded like bourbon on the rocks. Actual rocks, that is.
Captain Lewis epitomised the sort of role Brennan was best at – and which she was still playing as late as 2001, when she made the first in a run of appearances...

Eileen Brennan stole the show with Goldie Hawn in 'Private Benjamin'
Whether she was issuing orders as an Army captain in 'Private Benjamin', rambling as a real-life rendition of Mrs Peacock from 'Clue' or blasting an immortal monster with a shotgun as a crazy cat lady in 'Jeepers Creepers', she injected perfectly timed comedy into each of her roles.

We open on yet another Bombshell rehearsal and the cabal has made the inexplicable decision to go with the workshop book, but still graft that dreadful “Public Relations” number from last week onto it. No word on whether the agony auntie will be in drag like Mary Sunshine.
The intro ends and Derek directs the ensemble on how to avoid being crushed under the hideously expensive and unnecessary airplane that will be wheeling in from the wings. Tom and Eileen love it, but Julia declares it artistically void. Eileen shows just how deep in the weeds she is, declaring it a “Technicolor fantasy of the way Marilyn made herself”. This devolves into a fight over Eileen's choosing the old new book instead of the new new book culminating in the loathsome Jerry's saying they might have to cut a number to make room for this one because...

Wherever she is, Kristen Stewart perpetually appears as though it's the last place she wants to be.
The 22-year-old actress, who struggles to get through an interview without biting her lip and playing with her hair, graces the cover of Vanity Fair's July issue in which she defends her surly demeanor.
Stewart is aware that she isn't perceived as Hollywood's sweetheart, but she doesn't seem to understand it's not just about looking bored in photos, it's her general attitude that's off-putting.
"I'm proud of it. If I took perfect pictures all the time, the people standing in the room with me, or on the red carpet, would think, What an actress! What a faker! That thought embarrasses me so much that I look like shit in half my photos, and I don’t give a f**k," she explained to Vanity Fair.
Stewart isn't "Mary Sunshine" nor does she want to be,...
