Paramount and producer Joel Silver have hired Black List scribes Nick Creature and Michael Sweeney to rewrite the supernatural action script “Sanctuary,” TheWrap has learned. Originally written by Alan Trezza (“Burying the Ex”), the story follows a young woman who is possessed by a powerful demonic force. She seeks refuge within The Sanctuary, a secret organization run by the Vatican that teaches the possessed to channel their inner demon and use its power as a weapon against evil. Elizabeth Raposo has been with the project since 2012 and will continue to oversee its development on behalf of Paramount, while Ethan Erwin.

We didn’t know it when docu-helmer Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Unknown Known) signed up for it last July, but by the looks of several industry players, he might have landed on the best screenplay of the bunch.
The annual “The Black List” unveiled its “favorite unproduced screenplays” of the year, and ranking at the top with a slim margin of a lead was Andrew Sodroski’s Holland, Michigan – a project that should begin lensing in April of next year with Naomi Watts possibly toplining. The second place top vote-getter got a lot more than a set of steak knifes this year. The out-of-nowhere, complete obscurity to huge pay day Section 6 by first time scribe Aaron Berg garnered huge interest towards the end of the year and should be jettisoned into production by the Universal folks – look for big name talent to be attached sometime in...

With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. Production for last year’s top film, Draft Day, is underway with the theatrical release scheduled for April, so there’s a pretty good chance that...

While Prisoners, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Spectacular Now have generated positive reviews at the box office, they also share one common distinction: They were all recognized on Franklin Leonard’s Black List, an annual compendium of the year’s most-liked un-produced screenplays as determined by the hundreds of executives in Hollywood that spend their lives reading scripts.
Leonard, 35, began the list in 2005 on a lark. As a young development executive about to leave for winter vacation,...

We recently featured the trailer for an upcoming independent short film called Trust by filmmakers Sam Milletti and Michael Sweeney, both of the U.K. Since we’re starting a new series featuring the behind-the-scenes magic of indies, we thought we’d get some info from Sam to kick things off. He also graciously shared with us the exclusive new poster that will be debuted on his site on Friday. Yay for previews!
Definitely check out his trailer and support these independent and upcoming filmmakers. There are a lot of hidden gems out there and every click and share helps get the word out on talent unfettered by Hollywood mainstream limitations. And go!

Trust is a British indie short from filmmakers Michael Sweeney and Sam Milletti. It’s a drama which explores familial suffering, secrets, and abuse. Trust stars Christopher Thorpe, Kirsty Nadine, Caroline Jenks, and Russell Barnett and looks to be a pretty heavy-hitting topical piece. We look forward to seeing what these guys have created. Check out the first official teaser plus the poster below.
You can find more information at the official site and Facebook.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Steve’s life revolves around caring after his Mum Susan who suffers with depression. Through a series of incidences Steve makes friends with Debz ; a local girl involved with the wrong sort of people. Just like Steve she has a secret that she keeps from everyone around her. Tuesday marked the launch of indie drama Alpha Planet, a science fiction web series taking place on a post-apocalyptic earth 250 years in the future. With the entire human civilization living on a refugee ship for 200 years, supplies are running short. Four explorers (Michael Sweeney, Don Jeanes, Jd Mendonca, and Jen Sweeney) are sent back to Earth in search for signs of new life. The series logline, “They know the risks, but not the truth,” suggests a high-stakes conspiracy that involves the fate of humanity itself. Executive produced by Mike Darling, head of Rena’sance Robot, an independent production company that produces low-budget short films, sketches and web series, Alpha Planet looks like a cross between Brett Register’s The Crew and After Judgment, with a dash of Battlestar Galactica. Canada's Movie Central and The Movie Network today announced that they have given the greenlight to a four-hour mini-series adaptation of the long-running superhero 'The Phantom'. The series will be a co-production with Sci Fi Channel (soon to be renamed Syfy). It will debut on Movie Central and The Movie Network in spring 2010.
The Phantom was created by Lee Falk and first appeared in 1936 as a newspaper strip. Since then a character with that name has appeared in comic books by numerous publishers throughout the world. The Phantom has also starred in animated and live-action screen adaptations. The latter include a 1940s movie serial, a 1996 theatrical film and a 1961 TV pilot. Another feature film adaptation, The Phantom: Legacy, is also in the works. Speaking to Moviehole, screenwriter Tim Boyle said that the movie is still at the scripting stage and he believes it will go into pre-production...
