Art Bitch: Sobol Turns to the Dependable Heist Drama with Mixed Results
Flying in on the feathery laurels of Kurt Russell (once again donning a skilled leadfoot persona, albeit one who is much less sinister than his Stuntman Mike), director Jonathan Sobol turns to the sinewy double crossings of the old fashioned heist for his sophomore effort, The Art of the Steal. While it’s a stretch to say that Sobol, who also penned the screenplay, brings anything fresh to the table, he fills his 90 minutes with enough pep to keep us interested, which is nothing to balk at considering his plot twists aren’t divided by explosive action sequences. Nicolas Bolduc, Paul Sarossy, and the other nominations for the 2011 Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards have been announced. The Canadian Society of Cinematographers (Csc) is used “to promote the art and craft of cinematography and to provide tangible recognition of the common bonds that link film and video professionals, from the aspiring student and camera assistant to the news veteran and senior director of photography. Csc members are involved in the production of feature films, documentaries, television series, specials and commercials.” The Csc Awards will be handed out on April 2, 2011 at the Frontenac Ballroom, Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. The full listing of the 2011 Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards nominations is below.

One of the revelations in the earlier announcement of titles for this year's Toronto International Film Fest is that George A. Romero's ...Of The Dead has an official title.
Survival Of The Dead will make it's World Premiere at the Festival as a part of it's Midnight Madness Screenings (see the full announcement here), and thanks to the festival website (currently down for maintenance, but promising a relaunch tomorrow), we've got several new pics and additional details to share.
