Spoiler alert: The following article discusses the entirety of “The Patient,” including the finale “The Cantor’s Husband.”
“The Patient’s” session has ended: In the final, climactic showdown between serial killer Sam (Domhnall Gleeson) and psychotherapist Dr. Alan Strauss (Steve Carell), neither escapes — to extremely varying degrees. After the latter lauds the former for resisting the urge to kill his abusive father and demands his release, Sam lashes out and chokes him in front of his mother Candace (Linda Emond). Despite being told that true reform comes in the form of penance and turning himself in, Sam ends the limited series by putting himself in the very chains that kept Strauss prisoner. As for the embattled therapist’s family, his estranged and Orthodox Jewish son, Ezra (Andrew Leeds), is seen consulting a grief psychologist.

“The Patient” — “Kaddish” — Steve Carell as Alan Strauss. Cr: Suzanne Tenner/FX In his new FX/Hulu series, The Patient, Steve Carell plays a therapist who is taken hostage by one of his patients. On shows like The Office and Space Force, Carell has a history of playing characters whose job skills are somewhat questionable, and on the new show … well, it clearly sounds like the therapy didn’t work, if kidnapping is the result. Granted, these are only characters, but we asked Carell whether he thinks he would make a good therapist in real life (Click on the media bar below to hear Steve Carell) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Steve_Carrell_The_Patienbt_.mp3 The Patient is currently streaming on Hulu.

“The Patient” – Steve Carell as Alan Strauss. Cr: Suzanne Tenner/FX Steve Carell’s most recognizable roles may have been on the hit TV show The Office and in movies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Anchorman: The Story of Ron Burgundy, but that just scratches the surface of his talents. He received an Oscar nomination for his work in the psychological drama Foxcatcher, and he’s also gotten rave reviews for playing more serious roles in films like The Big Short, Dan in Real Life, and Little Miss Sunshine. And his latest role, as a therapist held hostage by a serial killer in the series The Patient, is about as far away from comedy as you can get. Carell told us he wants to be recognized for his versatility, because he’s never thought of himself as any particular kind of actor. (Click on the media bar below to hear Steve Carell) https://www.

“The Patient” — “Intake” — Pictured (L-r): Steve Carell as Alan Strauss. Cr: Suzanne Tenner/FX After comedies like The Office and Space Force, Steve Carell’s new TV project goes in a completely opposite direction — The Patient is a drama and psychological thriller that finds his character, a psychologist, being held captive by a serial killer. It’s not exactly the kind of show that would have a laugh track, and Carell, who’s performed well in several dramatic movie roles, told us that the claustrophobic feeling of his character’s situation made it especially interesting to play. The doctor is in…trouble! The taut drama The Patient finds sympathetic therapist Dr. Alan Strauss (Steve Carell) held prisoner by his troubled patient, Sam Fortner (a chilling Domhnall Gleeson), who believes having 24/7 care will help him resolve his impulses — as a serial killer. (Credit: Suzanne Tenner/FX) That’s a prescription for terror. “There’s the tension that Sam might jump up and kill Alan at any minute,” says series co-creator Joe Weisberg (The Americans). Surprises abound — not the least of which is Sam defying some familiar tropes. “The core idea is you have a serial killer — about the worst thing you could be — but they want to get better,” says Weisberg. “And that makes him sympathetic.” FX’s The Patient, Series Premiere, Tuesday, August 30, Hulu...

It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since Grace and Frankie first introduced us to a dynamic onscreen friendship between real-life pals Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, but time has certainly passed and now Netflix is gearing up for the final batch of Season 7 episodes. The streamer previewed the show’s final installments by revealing several first look photos featuring Fonda’s Grace, Tomlin’s Frankie, and their ensemble of costars including Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, and more. (Credit: Suzanne Tenner/Netflix) From creators Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, Grace and Frankie has captured fans’ hearts over the years as the titular duo went from cordial acquaintances to partners-in-crime, forming an unbreakable bond when their husbands Robert (Sheen) and Sol (Waterston) left them for each other.

In the few short years since breaking out as a fan favorite on the massively popular Japanese reality series “Terrace House,” Lauren Tsai has leveraged her impressively broad skillset to rewrite what audiences may have come to expect of a post-reality TV career.
Tsai’s latest turn, a starring role on the third and final season of the FX-Marvel drama “Legion” as the time-traveling mutant Switch, follows on a successful modeling career in Tokyo, illustration gigs for brands like Marvel and “Mortal Kombat” and a design collaboration with Marc Jacobs.
That breadth of work is reflective of the 21-year-old’s vast ambition, an omnivorous desire to try her hand at as many things and pursue as many opportunities as possible that’s served as her animating ethos even before “Terrace House.”

When it comes to music, Lady Gaga is a chameleonic persona, adopting flamboyant styles and mannerisms both on and off the stage. But for her first foray into television acting, with a lead role on "American Horror Story: Hotel," the songstress said she took inspiration from a famous -- and similarly murderous -- source.
In an interview with Jamie Lee Curtis for Variety's Actors on Actors series, Gaga admitted that she was as captivated by HBO's "The Jinx" as the rest of the country, and especially the inner workings of its main subject.
"Every day I would watch Robert Durst in 'The Jinx' and his wife Debrah Durst and I would sort of study the practical nature in which he was devious and evil," Gaga explained. "He just has this extremely practical way of explaining how he's going conceal the fact that he's dumped a body in a river and...

A year ago, American Horror Story fans were rolling their eyes at the prospect of Lady Gaga “replacing” Jessica Lange in the current season of the show – and I use the word “replacing” loosely as she was hardly replacing the queen of Ahs – only to find that the queen of pop managed to pull off her role as The Countess quite well, after all.
With 5 seasons of shock and horror, the series has been one of the most successful FX shows to date and there’s no guessing why either. The actors are all brilliant and bring their own flavour to an already-spicy show, and they all know exactly how to make each role their own, and with so many different characters to portray on one show, that’s a rather difficult task for an actor to do.
Fans can gladly admit that the show’s producers definitely chose...

Part of Lady Gaga's appeal is her tendency toward hyperbole, and she didn't disappoint on that front in her new interview with EW, which has unveiled the first official look at her "American Horror Story: Hotel" character the Countess (which, if you consider some of the costumes she's worn previously, actually ranks pretty far down the list of Mother Monster's most terrifying getups.) I've embedded the image below. “I’ve just been weeping while I’m here because I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness,” Gaga told EW. “It’s not something that everyone understands, but, for the people that do — 'Horror Story' fans, my fans — there is a true connection between us, and it’s a language within itself.” As EW notes, over the last couple of years Gaga has been putting forth a more subdued image.

Both Deadline Film Editor Mike Fleming and Deadline Awards Columnist Pete Hammond were nominated for the 50th Annual Publicists Award this year. At the gala luncheon held today, the Publicists of the International Cinematographers Guild (Iatse Local 600) announced that Hammond won. (Like it would have killed you flacks to give it to both our guys?) Pete now becomes only the second journalist to win this award twice. Deadline TV Editor Nellie Andreeva was nominated last year. And, believe it or not, I was nominated in 2008. (Everybody immediately thought it was a hoax.) What an incredible showing for our small staff! Deadline is very proud of all our nominees and this year’s winner. Other winners were announced in four categories: the Les Mason Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor they can bestow on one of their members, went to Heidi Schaeffer, vice president Pmkbnc Public Relations; the International Media Award...

Lurking behind Alfred Hitchcock, cinema.s .master of suspense. — the extraordinary film icon known for orchestrating some of the most intense experiences of menace and intrigue audiences have ever seen, was a hidden side: his creatively explosive romance with his steadfast wife and filmmaking collaborator, Alma Reville.
Now, for the first time, Sacha Gervasi.s Hitchcock lays bare their captivating and complex love story. It does so through the sly, shadowy lens of their most daring filmmaking adventure: the making of the spine-tingling 1960 thriller, Psycho, which would become the director.s most controversial and legendary film. When the tumultuous, against-the-odds production was over, nothing about movies would ever be the same . but few realized that it took two to pull it off.

I recently saw the film The Kids Are All Right, and between marveling at Julianne Moore’s performance and Mark Ruffalo’s chest hair, I couldn’t help but notice the acting skills of another one of the film’s stars, Yaya DaCosta, better known as a Cycle 3 contestant on America’s Next Top Model.
Our Brown-educated girl (how could we forget that tidbit with the number of times she said it on the show?) has come a long way from smizing and losing to Eva Pigford (now Eva Marcille for acting purposes).
Before she landed the role as Ruffalo...
