We live in an age where remakes take movies from the past and look to modernise them, sometimes changing them completely. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it ends up in a complete shambles, dumbing down what the original stood for and losing the whole point of what they were trying to replicate. This is the case with Rollerball, a cult classic which suffered the bad remake treatment. Thankfully in this review though I’m looking at the original film which is being released by Arrow Video on Blu-ray, so from this point on we can forget the remake even existed.
In a future controlled by corporations war is a thing of the past and the only conflict is Rollerball. Jonathan E.

"Monty Python" actor John Cleese is doing everything he can to fund his pricey 2008 divorce from Alyce Faye Eichelberger.
First, the British funnyman launched a stand-up comedy "Alimony Tour," then he moved to Monaco to skirt high tax rates and now he is selling his TV and film memorabilia to pay for his multi-million dollar split, according to the Daily Mail.
The items will be sold on the Original Memorabilia Company website and include props such as a fiberglass helmet from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," as well as signed photographs from famous "Monty Python" and "Fawlty Towers" sketches.
Cleese and Eichelberger -- an American psychotherapist -- divorced in 2008 after 16 years of marriage. Their 2009 divorce settlement stipulated that he pay his ex-wife $13 million in cash and assets, and nearly $1 million a year until 2016. The former couple has no children.

John Cleese's girlfriend gives him an "immediate being-in-love thing", which his last two wives didn't inspire in him. The three-times married "Monty Python" star is happier than ever in his romance with 39-year-old jeweler Jennifer Wade, admitting she makes him feel the way his first spouse, Connie Booth did, unlike his unions with Barbara Trentham and Alyce Faye Eichelberger who were just "ticking boxes".
"In the past I was more ticking boxes, not having an immediate being-in-love thing, which I did have with Connie," the 70-year-old star told the Sunday Times newspaper. "I laugh with Jenny in a way I haven't since I was 10. It's the utterly hopeless laughter of the 10-year-old and it's wonderful to have that back."
John, who was married to his "Fawlty Towers" co-star Connie for 10 years from 1968, remains "great friends" with his first wife, and though he knows their separation was the right thing to do,...

John Cleese's daughter has praised her father for saving her from a life of drink and drugs.
London-born Camilla Cleese moved to Chicago, Illinois with her mother Barbara Trentham, following her divorce from the actor in 1990.
Cleese admits she was on a downward spiral from the age of 11 which ended in four stints in rehab in a bid to cure her addictions.
The 24-year-old reveals her battle with narcotics intensified when she moved into the Monty Python star's California home when she was 15.
And it was only when her famous father was forced to rescue the then 20-year-old from a police cell, did he find out the true extent of her problems and took action - which she admits probably saved her life.
She says, "(At a friend's wedding) someone asked me to get cocaine. Someone left the hotel blinds open and a passer-by saw all these people doing coke and called the police. I was arrested. I was screaming and making a scene. I woke up the next morning on the cold cell floor, covered in my own blood and vomit and wearing only my underwear. Dad came in and rescued me. I was packed off to a psychiatric ward to detox and then to a rehab clinic."
And after several more stints in rehab, Cleese finally kicked alcohol and drugs in 2007, praising her father for helping her turn her life around.
And John Cleese admits he can finally feel connected to his daughter.
He adds, "I can honestly tell you I have never been prouder of anyone in my life than I am of Camilla. Her being sober is the most wonderful gift anyone could have given me. What we went through was quite a nightmare. But we're through it now. I am incredibly proud of the remarkable young woman my daughter has become."...

Latest: Monty Python star John Cleese is dating a woman half his age following his split from his third wife.
The British actor is currently embroiled in divorce proceedings with his estranged spouse Alyce Faye Eichelberger Cleese. The couple separated in January after 19 years of marriage.
And now Cleese, 68, is reportedly romancing 34-year-old magazine marketing executive Veronica Smiley.
The pair was recently photographed enjoying a romantic break in Italy.
And Cleese admits that he is delighted to have found love again.
He says, "She is certainly a new friend who is definitely a girl. More than that I don't want to disclose because the relationship is in its early stages and we do not know how it will develop. She's incredibly bright. I never thought I would be interested in somebody in marketing but she is so acute."
But the star fears their relationship may suffer because they are based in different cities.
He adds, "The problem is she works in Chicago for a magazine and I'm in California and London. Unfortunately we are living very far apart citywise."
Cleese's first wife was actress Connie Booth. He married TV director Barbara Trentham in 1981, before divorcing in 1990. Eichelberger and Cleese were wed in 1992.

Monty Python star John Cleese is confident his divorce proceedings against his third wife will be "worth every penny".
The actor appeared in a California court on Tuesday, where a judge ordered him to pay his estranged spouse Alyce Faye Eichelberger Cleese $150,000 (GBP75,000) a month in temporary maintenance.
Speaking outside the court, a wheelchair-bound Cleese - following surgery on his knee the previous day - said, "It's going to be very, very expensive - but it will be worth every penny."
Eichelberger is reported to be asking for two houses, half of Cleese's earnings since 1992, plus maintenance of $1.8 million (GBP900,000) per year - while claiming she has no money of her own.
Jacqueline Misho, Eichelberger's lawyer, told the court her client has "nothing, zero, because Mr Cleese has not seen fit to pay any support up to this point."
Cleese has however questioned his estranged wife's reasoning, saying, "When Ms Misho said my wife has absolutely no money, it puzzled me how she could be staying at the Carlyle Hotel in a room that costs $1,185 (GBP590) a night."
The comedian confirmed he has accepted an offer to sell his Santa Barbara ranch for $16.5 million (GBP8.25 million).
