Exclusive: Ketchup Entertainment acquired the romantic comedy The Love Punch with Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson, Timothy Spall and Celia Imrie. The film, scripted and directed by Last Chance Harvey helmer Joel Hopkins, made its premiere at Toronto last month. Pic’s produced by Process Media’s Tim Perell and Nicola Usborne with Love Punch Limited’s Jean Charles Levy and Radar Films’ Clément Miserez. Snd is co-producing, financing and handling worldwide distribution. Ketchup will release next year through Open Road Films. Brosnan and Thompson play a divorced couple whose pension is stolen by a ruthless businessman. They reunite to steal it back, and while they are racing around France, old passions arise. “The film is a perfect fit for the Ketchup slate, and typifies Ketchup’s commitment to ensure we can help bring high-quality independent entertainment to audiences in the Us,” said Ketchup CEO Gareth West. Forget such baubles as best film and best actor - the Bafta that really matters, for people who care about UK cinema, is the one for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer.
It's not part of the Oscar race, so it gets overshadowed by the hoopla around the big prizes. But it's the award that says most about the present health and future hopes of British film. Ironically, it's given in honour of an American, the Oscar-winning screenwriter Carl Foreman, who fled Hollywood's blacklist to find sanctuary in Britain.
Foreman was a defiantly independent spirit. That's reflected in a prize which celebrates the passion, the determination, the ambition and the sheer bloody-minded desperation that drives first-time film-makers. The nominees often remark that they don't feel like newcomers,...

NEW YORK -- Kathy Baker, James Brolin, Eileen Atkins, Richard Schiff and Liane Balaban have joined Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson in Overture Films' romantic drama Last Chance Harvey.
Baker plays the ex-wife of Hoffman, a down-on-his-luck New York jingle writer with a tough boss (Schiff). He becomes romantically involved with a lonely bureaucrat (Thompson) with an overbearing mother (Atkins) on a trip to London.
Brolin plays the new husband of Baker's character, and Balaban plays the daughter who brings all of them together at a British wedding.
Harvey, to be financed and distributed in the U.S. by Overture, begins principal photography Monday in and around London. Tim Perell and Nicola Usborne will produce, and Jawal Nga will executive produce. Robert Kessel, Overture's executive vp production and acquisitions, will oversee production.
