It’s the summer of screams on Screambox!
This June was absolutely jam-packed with several horror gems hitting our Screambox streaming service, including the hotly anticipated must-see definitive documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, not to mention Wes Craven’s original A Nightmare on Elm Street, Tobe Hooper’s classic 1995 adaptation of The Mangler (also starring Robert Englund), George A. Romero’s zombie classic Day of the Dead, Marcus Dunstan’s slasher The Collector, the supernatural festival hit Jethica, the Screambox Original body horror thriller New Religion, and the entire Subspecies franchise!
We’re ending the month with a bang, also dropping both David Cronenberg and the Soska Sisters’ Rabid, which are now streaming on Screambox.
Interestingly, David Cronenberg’s 1977 masterpiece is actually a Christmas-set horror film. In the film, surgery leaves a Montreal motorcyclist with a bloodsucking appendage in her armpit. Soon she has an insatiable thirst for human blood.

Speaking with Et Canada, Feore talks about getting involved with the tribute to Pinsent, who died in February at age 92.
“Gordon Pinsent was a huge inspiration for all Canadian artists, writers, directors, actors, etc,” he said, “and a mentor to many as well.”
The actor continued, “So we thought it only fitting to celebrate his legacy by running a series of his films all in a row and then having a discussion, and just a celebration afterwards. So we’re going to do that.”

Anyone who has taken a long trip by bus knows just what an odd experience it can be. Stuck in close quarters with strangers, sometimes for days. Depending on who those strangers are it can be either fun or absolute hell. Black Bags, the new thriller from director Josh Brandon and writers Angela Bourassa and Adam Pachter finds a new way to make it hell even after your trip is over.
Tess is having a troubled pregnancy, so troubled she’s taking experimental meds every four hours to try and see it to term. Presumably, it’s also causing her blackouts which is why she’s taking the bus back from the doctor rather than driving.
On the bus, she meets Sarah who sits next to her despite the bus being mostly empty.

Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep have a lot in common. Both are pop culture icons as well as respected actors – and both have appeared in many hit movies over the years. The two women have also worked together. Their roles in the 1992 black comedy Death Becomes Her made Hawn and Streep cult figures, and to this day, fans look upon the film with fondness.
Hawn and Streep have also remained close over the years, even if they haven’t worked together in another major movie. In a recent interview with Variety, Hawn opened up about her relationship with Streep, revealing that the Oscar winner is a “great girlfriend.”

James Gunn and Peter Safran have laid out their future plans for DC Studios, and the results are pretty exciting. Having the ship steered by someone with a clear vision and an obvious love of the source material is exactly what DC movies need. Speaking of comics, Gunn recently tweeted the inspirations behind DC's new direction. He was careful to say that while these books are significant to upcoming projects, DC Studios won't be adapting them all. It's great news because the comics serving as "touchstones" are all excellent!
DC Studios may not be directly adapting all the books Gunn mentioned, but we know one recent comic that is definitely getting a movie: "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." The eight-issue miniseries from Tom King and Bilquis Evely first hit stands in 2021, wrapping up the following year.

Ah, the glory days of early 2000s television, when studios scrambled to capitalize on the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Friends," and "Beverly Hills, 90210." Enter The WB's "Smallville," a Superman prequel based on the blue boy's formative years, before he donned the tights, red underwear, and cape. Starring Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lane, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Sam Jones III as Pete Ross, and Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, the series offered a fun spin on the Superman story and tinkered with iconic characters in a way that made them feel fresh. Lex Luthor, for example, starts out as Clark's best friend and gradually devolves into his comic-book counterpart. At the same time, Superman regulars such as Lois Lane (Erica Durance), Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore), and Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) were given makeovers to properly update them for the modern era; ditto...

See for Me is a new twist on the plot of a blind person forced to defend themselves against a threat they literally can’t see coming. Writers Adam Yorke & Tommy Gushue and director Randall Okita (The Lockpicker) have taken the basic plot of the classic Wait Until Dark and upgraded its technology. Blind and being stalked by violent criminals? Don’t worry, there’s an app for that.
Sophie Scott (Skyler Davenport), was a promising skier until she lost her sight to a rare disease. Now she combines housesitting and larceny because “Nobody would suspect the poor blind girl.”. Her current assignment house/cat sitting for Debra looks to yield an expensive bottle of wine or two.

"Where are they now?!" IFC Films has debuted the first official trailer for a home invasion horror-thriller titled See For Me, taking the concept of Don't Breathe and mixed with a techno thriller involving someone helping remotely over the phone. This first premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and later stopped by the Vancouver and London Film Festivals. When blind former skier Sophie cat-sits in a secluded mansion, three thieves break in to go after the hidden safe. Sophie's only defense is army veteran Kelly. Kelly helps Sophie defend herself against the invaders and survive. The film stars Skyler Davenport as Sophie, with Kim Coates, Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Laura Vandervoort. This is a cool concept for a horror film, and it looks scary! I just hope the film is good. I dig the way this trailer ends... in darkness. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for...

Exclusive: IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. rights to Randall Okita’s Tribeca Film Festival title See For Me, the home invasion chiller that pits a blind house-sitter against three experienced thieves.
The film stars visually impaired actor Skyler Davenport alongside Kim Coates, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Pascal Langdale, Joe Pingue, George Tchortov, Laura Vandervoort and Emily Piggford.
Davenport plays blind former skier Sophie, who accepts a last-minute house-sitting job in a secluded mansion. But she awakes in the middle of the night to find the house under invasion by a group of thieves seeking a hidden safe. Her only means of defense is a new app called “See For Me,” which matches her with a volunteer across the country who uses Sophie’s cell phone to see on her behalf. Stubbornly independent, Sophie is reluctant to accept help until she is connected to Kelly, an Army veteran who spends her days playing first-person shooter games.

Things get off to a pretty rocky start with Brad Turner’s Trigger Point thanks to a haphazard opening sequence comprised of silencer shots and gun flashes as random bodies fall to the ground. It feels like the cold open to a television show and thus the precursor to what will ultimately feel like a made-for-tv actioner. That we quickly move to a day in the life of Nicolas Shaw (Barry Pepper) with high-tech gadgets in a low-tech small-town setting with loquacious acquaintances at the diner and bookshop doesn’t necessarily help matters since it all feels so artificial. Things finally settle down upon discovering that’s kind of the point.
Screenwriter Michael Vickerman has created a man in hiding. Those bodies that fell at the beginning—that was a year ago. And Nicolas may have been the reason for their deaths. He doesn’t remember it, but his former...

"Everyone breaks." Screen Media Films has released an official trailer for Trigger Point, a hitman action film from filmmaker Brad Turner, the director of Species III and tons of TV series over the last few decades. Nicolas Shaw is a retired U.S. special operative who becomes part of an elite "invisible" team that quietly takes out the worst villains around the world. After being blamed for the deaths of fellow team members and laying low for two years, Shaw now must clear his name and prevent the killing of a new generation of noble operatives. Will he able to save the day or will they finally catch up with him? Barry Pepper stars as Shaw, and the cast includes Colm Feore, Laura Vandervoort, Eve Harlow, Jayne Eastwood, and Karen Robinson. As much as I enjoy Barry Pepper, it doesn't look like there's anything interesting going on here. Here's the...

Laura Vandervoort has a lot of fans. Merely mentioning her name on social media attracts attention.
After chatting with her, it's easy to understand why.
Laura is insightful and kind, eager to share her thoughts on her latest projects, whether as an actor or, now, as a director, too.
This Saturday, you can catch Laura starring in a new Valentine's Day-themed movie called Playing Cupid.
In the film, she plays a woman named Kerri, who uproots her life to move closer to the man she loves, only to discover they do not see the relationship in a similar fashion.
Her move is hardly a total loss, though. As a teacher, Kerri connects with her students in ways that make fellow teachers envious. And one student, in particular, Clara (Mia Quaranta De La Rosa), sets her sites on a very special connection for Kerri -- her dad, David (Nicholas Gonzalez).

The Smallville cast reflected on their time on set during their virtual New York Comic Con panel Saturday morning. Their reunion marks almost a decade since the show’s end on The CW.
The panel was moderated by Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager) and joined by lead Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), Sam Witwer (Davis Bloome) and Laura Vandervoort (Kara).
Rosenbaum revealed he was ready to explode by the seventh season. He mentioned close to the end of his run on Smallville that he got tired of playing the same character and offered Tom’s idea on what would have been a special episode.
“I didn’t want to stretch it out [but] I felt like you have to. Tom always says how great the episode would’ve been if I got his powers and he got my brains. That would’ve been an awesome episode because we...

The Arrowverse wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Smallville paving the way for it, so it’s only right that many of the Superman prequel show’s stars have gone on to appear in The CW’s contemporary DC series. Erica Durance and Laura Vandervoort on Supergirl spring to mind, not to mention Tom Welling reprising his role as Clark Kent in the recent big “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
One of the major stars of the series yet to turn up in the Arrowverse, however, is Kristin Kreuk, who played Clark’s first love Lana Lang on eight seasons of the decade-long show. While speaking to TV Line, the actress made clear that’s not due to her, though, as she’d be completely open to the idea if the part was a juicy one.
“Yeah, totally, depending on what it was,” Kreuk revealed. “It’d be so much fun.

The most uneven of David Cronenberg’s early commercial horror features, the 1977 “Rabid,” was nonetheless probably the biggest success among them, in large part due to the novelty value of seeing “Behind the Green Door” porn superstar and erstwhile Ivory Snow detergent-box model Marilyn Chambers in a lurid mainstream vehicle. It’s also the one ripest for remake, if only because his just-prior “Shivers” aka “They Came from Within” and ensuing “The Brood” should be left alone — largely reviled upon release, they’re now rightly considered genre classics. Lacking their outrageous ideas and cumulative narrative momentum despite some striking elements, “Rabid” nonetheless has a strong-enough basic concept to warrant revisiting.
In theory, “twisted twins” Jen and Sylvia Soska are fair candidates for that job: Like Cronenberg, they’re Canadian, attracted to body-horror, and have cut their own path from micro-budget projects toward the mainstream. They also claim they dislike remakes as a rule,...

Canada’s horror auteur twins, the Soska Sisters, remade their idol David Cronenberg’s earliest and grisliest film.

Their movies are marked by a decidedly feminist point-of-view as well as a gleeful, often outrageous use of gore and visceral horror, so it’s no surprise that they have now taken on the risk of remaking Rabid, one of the early films by their idol and fellow Canadian,...

Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed that there are still more cameos to come in “Crisis On Infinite Earths.”
The Arrowverse’s most ambitious crossover yet not only incorporates its core shows and numerous guest characters, but will also bring in the likes of Superman from both Smallville and Kingdom Come, Huntress from Birds of Prey, Ryan Choi’s Atom, Bruce Wayne, Jim Corrigan (who may or may not have become the Spectre) and Burt Ward in an undisclosed role highly speculated and most likely to be Robin from the ‘60s Batman series. With such an expansive cast already confirmed, you’d have thought this would be enough to deal with. Guggenheim, however, doesn’t think so.
When responding to a fan’s tweet asking if there would be any more cameos, he surprisingly responded in the positive, also stating we won’t know who they are ahead of time.
