Rumor has it that Jimmy Fallon will take over for Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" in 2014, but who will replace Fallon on "Late Night"? If new reports are to be believed, it could be Howard Stern.
The New York Post is reporting that Stern is being "'groomed' by NBC as the new Fallon." Of course, NBC's head of late night Doug Vaughan shot down the story, claiming that the Post's source is "incorrect and that the rumor is without merit."
The Post doesn't have much to go on, but at least Stern's wife, Beth Ostrosky Stern, is on board with the idea. "I always say that to him! He is one of the best interviewers out there," she said when the Post asked her about the late night rumor. The site then asked whether she'd try to talk her husband into tackling late night, and she said, "I am going to!

NBC is now checking the songs the Roots play on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon after the band performed an off-color song during Michele Bachmann’s show appearance last month.
Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots says now he’s “gotta clear a lot of the song choices” with the network.
“It’s still a comedy show, so they promise not to step on my toes or that type of thing, but they definitely want to know the title of the song, the subject matter of the song, can it be seen as an insult?” he said in an interview Thursday.

Questlove probably knew he'd get into trouble when he decided The Roots would play the obscure Fishbone tune "Lyin' A** B****" as the walk-on music for Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann when she guested on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," but now the musical fiasco has gone even higher up.
NBC VP of late night programming Doug Vaughan reportedly wrote to Bachmann expressing his deepest apologies over the whole incident. According to the AP, Vaughan says the incident was "not only unfortunate but also unacceptable," and that The Roots were "severely reprimanded."
Fallon apologized to Bachmann the day after the appearance, tweeting, "I'm honored that Michele Bachmann was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back."
Although Bachmann cheerfully accepted Fallon's apology, she said she wished NBC would reach out to her too. Hopefully this will suffice.

After the Roots played Fishbone's "Lyin' Ass Bitch" during Rep. Michele Bachmann's appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last Monday, NBC has issued an apology to Bachmann, with a spokesperson for Bachmann saying that the network called the song choice "not only unfortunate but also unacceptable." According to the spokesperson, NBC late night executive Doug Vaughan "privately" reached out to Bachmann's camp through a letter, and added that the band was "severely reprimanded" for playing the song. For her part, Bachmann — who addressed the controversy on Fox News' American Newsroom on Nov. 23, stating that the song choice was "clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite, [and] also, I think, sexism as well" — has accepted NBC's apology, with CNN reporting that she had a "nice conversation" with [...]...

It's official, Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes on January 15th according to a press release from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The job marks the third outing in a row for Gervais at the Globes, he was voted in by the HFPA after meeting with NBC official Doug Vaughn.
Of course the question becomes will he retain the edge of last year when his biting one-liners roasting movies and celebrities in the room generated ire in some quarters.
Gervais joked on Twitter that "Be afraid, Hollywood egos, be very afraid. It's gonna be biblical" and that he "just told Billy Crystal he'd better not use any of my holocaust or pedophile material at The Oscars".

By the time the Golden Globes airs on Jan. 15, 2012, one thing will be clear: Ricky Gervais will either be hosting the telecast or not. For now, though, let's enjoy some more rumors! On Thursday, Page Six reported that Gervais was spotted at dinner with Aida Takla-o'Reilly, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and Doug Vaughan, NBC's head of specials. The idea being that since Gervais was dining with two of the people behind the Golden Globes, whatever hatchet the three may have had between them has been buried. Gervais was quick to continue that narrative, tweeting the Page Six story along with, "Oooooooh, the plot thickens!" So, is he hosting?

NBC has renewed its contract with Svp Special Programs and Alternative Doug Vaughan, with his expanded responsibilities including and oversight of most of the network’s late-night programs. Now Svp Special Programs and Late Night, he will shepherd Saturday Night Live, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Last Call With Carson Daly. He will remain based in New York and report to alternative and late-night president Paul Telegdy, who will continue to oversee The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on the West Coast. The move is part of the restructuring in NBC late night, which started last month when Telegdy added late-night to his purview and the network’s long-time head of late-night Rick Ludwin stepped down, followed by the exit of VP Nick Bernstein. A former supervising producer on Today, Vaughan will retain responsibility for NBC’s specials and several alternative series including such East Coast-based fare as the...

Comedian forced to defend himself after presenting body deny inviting him to repeat his controversial hosting stint
Another day, another development in the seemingly neverending saga of Ricky Gervais and the Golden Globes. The British comic has been forced to defend himself after organisers denied asking him back for next year's event following his controversial hosting stint last month.
Gervais raised eyebrows at the glitzy ceremony thanks to an opening routine that poked fun at various nominees and jokingly suggested the judges took bribes. Afterwards, he admitted it was unlikely that he would be invited back by presenting body the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. But yesterday the comic blogged that he wasn't so sure.
"Organisers asked me to consider a third year. I don't think I should," he wrote, surprising many. "I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure.

Ricky Gervais has clarified claims that he has been asked to return as host of the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. However, Gervais told The Hollywood Reporter that it was actually NBC's senior VP of special programming Doug Vaughan who had extended the welcome. "Doug Vaughan called me and said he loved [the show], that it was great," he explained. "He (more)...

The moving troupe will take a new route this year, moving stages down the historic Broadway route beginning at 77th Street and Central Park West.
