"Yosemite" (January 1) (Film Page) Director: Gabrielle Demeestère Cast: James Franco, Henry Hopper, Steven Wiig, Barry Del Sherman, Tony Vella Criticwire Average: C Why is it a Must See? James Franco is one of Hollywood's most love-him-or-hate-him figures, yet there's no denying that he keeps churning out interesting work in all mediums, including books. His first novel, "Palo Alto," became an unassumingly wonderful film courtesy of Gia Coppola, and now writer-director Gabrielle Demeestère is using his second novel, "A California Childhood," for her feature debut. "Yosemite" is told in three parts and tracks the intertwining experiences of three fifth grade friends in Palo Alto during the fall of 1985. Mixing themes of adolescence and friendship, the movie is a light and sensitive venture into the nostalgia of Franco. "Chimes at Midnight" (January 1)Director: Orson...

It what seems like a freak accident, an overhanging metal scaffolding collapsed and crashed onto the Toronto stage during set up, pinning and killing one crew member.

"Unfortunately, four people were hurt," Toronto police Constable Tony Vella told CNN. "The remainder of the people, when they heard the stage coming [down], ran from the area."
The deceased has not been identified, nor have the other victims, one of whom suffered a head injury that isn't considered life-threatening. Two other victims suffered only minor injuries. This in the second scaffolding-related incident in 10 months. Seven died and 40 were injured at last year's Indiana State Fair when metalwork supporting stage lights collapsed onto a crowd of fans and workers right before Sugarland was slated to perform.
"The big question is how [this happened]," Vella said. "And that's something we...

Toronto - With a loud rumble that one witness compared to a roller coaster, the top of a stage being set up for a concert by the alternative rock band Radiohead collapsed, killing one of the stage workers preparing for the event.
”Suddenly, there was a loud crash and it sounded like sheet metal and lightening and we just saw the stage collapse,” said Dusty Lalas, an employee with Toronto radio station The Edge, which was sponsoring the concert.
"The structure just caved in."
Chris Collins was heading to the show and saw the stage come down from the parking lot at Downsview Park.
"To be honest, it sounded like a roller coaster," Collins told ABC News. "Basically, like a series of clacking noises and increasing in volume as the collapse proceeded."
The stage collapsed onto workers preparing the structure for the concert, said Toronto police Const. Tony Vella.

Toronto — A massive stage collapse hours before a Radiohead concert was to begin Saturday left one person dead and three others injured, officials said.
Emergency Medical Services deputy commander David Viljakainen said a man who was trapped under the rubble was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said he was in his mid-30s.
A 45-year-old man was hospitalized with a head injury and two others were treated at the scene for minor injuries at the Downsview Park venue, said Viljakainen.
The venue said on its website that the sold-out concert was canceled.
Fire Services Platoon Chief Tony Bellavance said officials were alerted to a person trapped under the rubble and crews assisted in extracting the victim. "It was a crushing injury that killed the man," he said.
Police spokesman Tony Vella said crew were setting up the stage when it collapsed.

Sixteen actors hurt in fall from platform during filming of Resident Evil: Retribution, starring Milla Jovovich, in Toronto
Sixteen actors dressed as zombies were injured when they fell from a platform during filming of a new Resident Evil movie.
The victims' costumes made it difficult at first for crews to assess the severity of the injuries at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto. "I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying 'Oh my God'," Commander David Ralph of the Toronto emergency medical services said with a laugh.
Toronto police sergeant Andrew Gibson said: "It did kind of catch us off guard when we walked in."
Twelve people were taken to hospital with leg, back and arm injuries. Officials said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Police constable Tony Vella said the actors had been filming a scene on a high wheeled platform. The platform moved as they were going to another platform,...
