“You never know if they like you for who you are or what you are,” Anna Nicole Smith once said before she passed away from an accidental drug overdose in 2007. The endearing model, actress, and television personality often found herself a subject of misinterpretation and ridicule when she wanted to taste life, be loved, and make people smile. Thankfully, a new biopic, Hurricanna, is now filming and aims to show the sweeter side of the beloved blonde bombshell. A first look at Sylvia Hoeks as Smith is here, prompting fans to double-take before venturing into the Uncanny Valley.

The tiny black font that is used for the credits in the above trailer for Francesca Gregorini.s Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes suggests a TV drama, or maybe even a children.s film based on its title, instead of a dark psychological thriller about mentally mistaken identity. It works really well, as the trailer tells its own story . almost a short film, really . and reveals its subject matter with a proper pacing that I hope holds true within the film itself. Holy shit, people, this font of this trailer.s credits may have moved me. Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes is Gregorini.s second film, following 2009.s female coming of age drama Tanner Hall, which she co-wrote and co-directed with Tatiana von Furstenberg. I suppose Emanuel is also coming of age, but it.s an age that happens to include one of the strangest cases of obsession...

Exclusive: Hours before her film makes its Sundance debut, director Francesca Gregorini has signed with CAA. She makes her solo directing debut with Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes. She wrote the film, which premieres in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at Sundance and stars Kaya Scodelario and Jessica Biel. Gregorini previously co-directed Tanner Hall with Tatiana Von Furstenberg. That film starred Rooney Mara and played Toronto in 2009. Gregorini is managed by Schiff Company’s Kenny Goodman and her lawyer is Greg Slewett.

A clip has landed for Francesca Gregorini's Sundance competition entry "Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes," starring Kaya Scodelario ("Wuthering Heights," "Skins") as a young woman who begins a friendship with a neighbor, Linda (Jessica Biel), who looks uncannily like her late mother. The dream-like quality of the clip matches the Sundance program notes on the film, which promise that the film "vascillates between surrealism and realism" and that "Emanuel must take a courageous journey to enter her dream and help extract Linda from hers." This is director Gregorini's first solo helming venture, having previously co-directed 2009's "Tanner Hall" with Tatiana von Furstenberg. "Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes" premieres in Park City on January 18.

With production set to begin on Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes at the end of the month, Francesca Gregorini is busy finding the supporting cast. For the followup to her debut Tanner Hall, which she co-wrote and co-directed with Tatiana von Furstenberg, the writer-director has just landed four actors to help bring the story of a doll babysitter to life. Yes, a babysitter for a doll. Interested? Already cast in the film are Jessica Biel in the role of Linda and Kaya Scodelario as the titular Emanuel. The story follows Emanuel, a troubled teenager who agrees to .babysit. her neighbor Linda.s baby, which is actually just life-like doll. Over time, Emanuel and Linda become closer, the latter being a spitting image of the former.s deceased mother. Variety reports that joining the two actresses in the quirky film are Alfred Molina, Frances O.Connor, Jimmi Simpson and relative...

Getting a first feature off the ground if no easy feat, but couple that with making a movie centered entirely around the perspective of four young women, and you've got a mountain to climb. "Tanner Hall" marks the debut outing of filmmakers Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg, not only did they beat the odds, they also managed to luck into a dream cast. Even though stories about women are difficult to finance, not only did the directing pair get their story told, but they rounded up a cast that includes current "it girl" Rooney Mara, Brie Larson, Amy Sedaris and in a surprising dramatic (and partially comedic) turn, Chris Kattan. With the film arriving on DVD and BluRay this week, we caught up with the filmmakers to talk about the movie, and the talent Lisbeth Salander showed in her first leading role. Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini, the writers and directors of “Tanner Hall,” had organic qualities in mind when they set out to make the film. “We wanted to make an artful movie,” von Furstenberg said. “We didn’t want to condescend to the audience, we didn’t want to talk down to them. This is not a disposable environment; it’s very organic. Von Furstenberg and Gregorini strove to make their film–the story of a group of friends as they grow up and learn the trials of life in their privileged girls’ school–as timeless as possible. “There are no iPads, trendy hairstyles, no makeup,” von Furstenberg said. The girls’ uniforms, which were...

Title: Tanner Hall Directed By: Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg Starring: Rooney Mara, Georgia King, Brie Larson, Amy Ferguson, Tom Everett Scott, Chris Kattan, Shawn Pyfrom, Ryan Schira, Amy Sedaris Sure, it’s nice for a film to have a solid script paired with appropriate visuals, but sometimes, movies can get away with having the former, but not the latter. The bigger problem comes when you’re trying to achieve the reverse and mask weak writing with a pretty picture. While featuring a promising cast of on-the-rise newcomers and comedy veterans, a strong production design, plus a visual aesthetic that proves digital cinematography can be warm and capture light in a pleasing autumnal manner, the one-dimensional indie flick "Tanner Hall," has almost nothing else to redeem it. Dressed in a litany of boarding school girl cliches, the Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg-directed film would normally feel like a send-up of this quote unquote genre if it didn't take itself so seriously and wasn't so painfully sincere. Telegraphed from a mile away, every character's story arc is identifiable immediately; you…...

Adolescence is a time of new awakenings, growing into one’s identity, taking the first tottering steps into adulthood – and making very, very poor decisions. Because the main plot of Tanner Hall focuses on a four teenage girls who attend a boarding school in New England, a series of poor decisions move the plotline forward, if somewhat predictably.
First there is Victoria (Georgia King), the troublemaker with a dangerous streak and an obsession with death - a more subtle version of Angelina Jolie’s character in Girl, Interrupted. She makes most of the poor decisions that get the girls into trouble, including stealing the key to the dormitory and getting the crew to sneak out via social manipulation and a couple of well placed lies.

Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg are rock royalty. Literally. We're talking about a legitimate countess and princess duo who've dabbled in band-dom and, as we will explore, filmmaking. In 2009, they wrote and directed Tanner Hall, a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age film about four friends in an all-girls boarding school. Long time friends Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini took that exact route, both studying film at Brown University and then going on to make short films with the help of friends and family. Appropriately, the duo opted to take the plunge and go for their first feature with something that was near and dear to their hearts, a piece that not only somewhat represented their own experiences, but something they hope young women can related to as well, Tanner Hall. Anchor Bay have released the first trailer for their new movie, Tanner Hall which is directed by Francesca Gregorini, Tatiana von Furstenberg and stars Rooney Mara, Georgia King and Brie Larson. The odd thing with this one is that the movie was actually made back in 2009. More than likely, it’s getting it’s release as Rooney Mara has become rather a big star since it was made as she is set to play opposite Daniel Craig in the David Fincher Us remake version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
It’s nice to see the movie coming out. No UK release date as yet but the Us will see it on September 9th.

"My heart only exists within the stone walls of that building." So this charming little indie premiered nearly two years ago at the Toronto Film Fest in 2009. I saw it there, it's not bad, it's a quaint coming-of-age flick, Rooney Mara stars in it and she's great, but that's about it. Well, Anchor Bay Films has held onto it for two years and is just now releasing it. Vulture has debuted a trailer and it seems like they're trying to sell it as a teen romance, but I don't know how well it'll stick. In addition to Mara, from The Social Network & Dragon Tattoo, this also stars Georgia King, Brie Larson and, oddly enough, Chris Kattan in a dramatic role. Enjoy! Watch the official trailer for Francesca Gregorini & Tatiana von Furstenberg's Tanner Hall: Tanner Hall is a vivid peek into the private world of an all-girls boarding school.

These days, Rooney Mara (star of the upcoming thriller "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") is anything but lost — but in the just-posted trailer for "Tanner Hall," the wide-eyed starlet captures teen angst with ease.
Directed by Tatiana von Furstenberg (daughter of Dvf herself) and Francesca Gregorini (Ringo Starr's stepdaughter), the coming-of-age drama follows the story of Mara, a boarding-school girl whose senior year becomes terribly complicated due to one scheming friend (Georgia King) and one much older man (Tom Everett Scott).
Mara learns the hard way that sometimes you must "lose your way" to "find your self." (Yes, these phrases do actually flash on-screen during the film's trailer, but we'll try not to hold that against it.) There's a little something for everyone: romantic car rides in the country, deviant nights at amusement parks, and, of course, girl fights in all their forms.
But don't take our word for it,...

Almost exactly two years ago, at the 2009 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, the Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini film Tanner Hall had its premiere. Set in a New England all-girls boarding school, the film was notable for being one of the first big roles for Rooney Mara. At the time no one really knew who the actress was. She was just about to show up in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street -- not really the resume-builder a lot of young hopefuls might want. But a year later Mara held her own against Jesse Eisenberg in the terrific opening scene of The Social Network, and David Fincher soon cast her as Lisbeth Salander in his version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. That one-two ensured that a great many people learned very quickly of Rooney Mara. Tanner Hall, meanwhile, languished on the shelf, with...

Certainly that's the case for the students at "Tanner Hall." Vulture unveiled the trailer and as we mentioned just a couple of days ago, the film is notable for featuring on-the-rise and soon-to-breakout stars Rooney Mara and Brie Larson and is finally hitting screens after premiering at Tiff two years ago. Falling somewhere between "Cracks" and "An Education" tonally, the film, directed by Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg (yes, the daughter of Diane…...

Hollywoodnews.com: Anchor Bay sent us assets for its upcoming teen drama “Tanner Hall,” a film that stars Rooney Mara (“The Social Network”) Brie Larson and Georgia King as a student in an all-girls boarding school.
The trailer is below:
Directors Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg appear to have come up with a delicate, difficult coming-of-age story with hints of a darkness laying beneath the surface. The film has been around since 2009, which might explain the presence of Amy Sedaris and Chris Kattan. It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival that year, but now will be distributed by Anchor Bay on Sept. 9.
We also have a few images from the film, including the poster. What do you think? Will you check it out?

Anchor Bay's upcoming drama Tanner Hall, about the drama contained within the walls of an all-girls boarding school, will open in theaters on September 9th, and they've just released the poster and some images from the film. Considering how somber the film looks from the images and trailer, I can't help but feel the poster is misleadingly cheerful in an effort to drive more people into the seats - but we'll have to wait and see. For now, we've included the poster, pics, and even the trailer below, so maybe I'm just imagining things and the rest of the world thinks the poster is accordingly bright and cheery.
Tanner Hall is directed by Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini and stars Rooney Mara, Georgia King, Brie Larsen, Amy Ferguson, Tom Everett Scott, Amy Sedaris, and Chris Kattan.

Anchor Bay is set to distribute Tanner Hall, the directorial debut of Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg. The film premiered last fall at Tiff to buzz, but it gained traction as a result of Rooney Mara landing the lead role in David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
After Toronto, the film looked like it would be picked up right away, but that did not happen. Anchor Bay has stepped in and bought the domestic, UK, Australia, and New Zealand rights. As you would expect, Tanner Hall will be released in near the December 21 release date of Dragon Tattoo.
The coming-of-age film drama also stars Tom Everett Scott, Chris Kattan, and Amy Sedaris and takes place at a boarding school in a New England town. The story follows four restless teens as they come of age. Mara, Brie Larsen, Georgia King, and Amy Ferguson star as the four teens.

It was a packed house complete with familiar faces at the Sva Theater on Monday night for the New York premiere of "Tanner Hall.”
"My mother's here," said Tatiana von Furstenberg, who co-directed the New England boarding school drama with Francesca Gregorini, during a Q&A following the screening. "The characters are all composites of people we know, so we can ask her about it."
But her mother didn't speak up, perhaps because the movie revealed more frank portraits of rebellious teenagers than any mother would like to see — a testament to the personal nature of the project, which was an outgrowth of the co-directors' real-life experiences at their own boarding school.
