Tom Selleck’s Blue Bloods is unarguably one of the best television series in the crime drama genre. Aired on CBS, the series tells the life story of the police commissioner of New York named Frank Reagan, who has more than just problems at work and home to deal with as one of his children heads to the police force while the other is intrigued by the lawyers.

“What am I going to watch now?” devastated fans asked when CBS announced the 14th season of Blue Bloods would be its last. The saga of the beloved Reagan cop clan ends with a two-part season: the first part now and, after producers fought for additional episodes, more next fall. Longtime showrunner Kevin Wade promises the final season will not disappoint, bringing viewers the show’s trademark character-driven stories. “The jeopardy has never been ‘will the kidnapper get caught before he kills the victims’ but whether two or more Reagans get into a conflict they can’t walk back,” Wade says. “That’s what resonates.” Jeopardy opens the season when Sgt. Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) goes undercover in a human trafficking ring. “We played with a lot of looks and ended up with something very not cop and not Jamie,” says Estes, who was told by Wade “to put down my razor.

Blue Bloods has always been a show about two things: law enforcement and family. The story centers on the Reagan family led by patriarch and New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). The show also follows the developing personal lives of each member of the Reagan clan. And in recent years, an increasing focus on Blue Bloods has turned to Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie (Vanessa Ray).

Jamie and Eddie started out as partners on the force. Over the course of Blue Bloods, their relationship has evolved far past that professional level. In early seasons, Jamie and Eddie shared an unspoken connection, though they never fully pursued a romance. However, in season 8, the couple finally accepted their romantic feelings for each other and got engaged.

Blue Bloods debuted in September 2010 and ever since the show has been a consistent performer for CBS. Perhaps the secret to the show’s success lies in the fact that it’s about family as much as it is about police work. Still, even shows as popular as Blue Bloods must come to an end eventually. Here’s why the CBS hit might be gearing up for its final seasons.

Tom Selleck has long since been the face of Blue Bloods, but fans’ favorite part of many episodes in the CBS series is the family dinner scenes. Those family dinners provide a sense of nostalgia or perhaps a reminder to gather one’s own family around the table.
Whatever emotions they evoke in viewers, the Reagan family dinners in every Blue Bloods episode aren’t a coincidence. No matter the chaos that might swirl in the NYPD or a city courthouse that day, the family always gathers for evening meals, with patriarch Frank Reagan (Selleck) at the head of the table and “Pop” Reagan (Len Cariou) opposite him. The dinners have become integral to the show — even if Selleck didn’t think they would survive the pilot.

From the very start, Blue Bloods has unabashedly been a New York cop show. After all, nearly the entire cast of characters work in law enforcement. But the show also puts a spotlight on New York City itself, with the Reagan family mostly residing across the city. However, fans have been wondering exactly where in New York Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie (Vanessa Ray) now live?

The primary setting for so many of the character moments and interactions in Blue Bloods is the Brooklyn home of patriarch Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). The interior scenes — including the show’s iconic family dinners — are shot on a set. However, the exterior of the home is a real-life house located in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of the New York borough of Brooklyn.

In the 11th season, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Harmon worked closely with showrunner Gary Glasberg on a special two-episode arc that reunited the Gibbs character with an old comrade working a case in New Orleans. Back in 1988, a film called "Working Girl" appeared on the scene. It was the story of Tess (Melanie Griffith), a young working woman in New York City who dreams of something bigger. Of course, she's treated like a piece of meat with no brains by her male bosses and even her boyfriend (Alec Baldwin). She gets a new gig with a female boss named Katharine (Sigourney Weaver), who is terrible in a different way, stealing Tess's good ideas and using them as her own.
Tess is asked to house-sit for Katharine and discovers the theft. She poses as Katharine to get her idea out there to the big bosses, steals Katharine's boyfriend Jack (Harrison Ford), who was going to break up with her anyway, and wins the day.

With the news that President Joe Biden has pledged to end the United States’ “failed approach” on cannabis, thousands of people who were incarcerated for possession of the drug are poised to receive pardons.
“Sending people to jail for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives — for conduct that is legal in many states,” he declared in a series of tweets outlining new policy, including a promise to reevaluate how cannabis is classified on the federal level. At present, it’s a Schedule I substance, like heroin. (For reference, cocaine and meth are Schedule II.

CBS has released the first trailer for the new season of the long-running drama on October 7 that looks ready to throw the Reagans into a bold new direction.

Meanwhile, showrunner Kevin Wade has hinted at new developments this year as the drama has the Reagans facing changing times.

There’s going to be a big shift for Jamie Reagan on Blue Bloods this year.
In a major sneak peek at Season 13, showrunner Kevin Wade has revealed that Jamie (Will Estes) will be getting a new job in the NYPD.
While Jamie won’t be leaving the force, he will have to change his status in the NYPD, which is needed due to his marriage to Eddie (Vanessa Ray).
Thanks to a new commander, the husband and wife will still work together only without Jamie in his position as precinct sergeant.
This comes after some major shifts for both characters in the last few years, so one more big change won’t be different.
This new change is the first of several for Blue Bloods in Season 13 as the series prepares to show the Reagan clan adjusting to some new times.

There was a cupcake party on set, but don’t look for a 250th blowout onscreen—just tried-and-true Blue Bloods storytelling. On the docket: Eddie (Ray) has a chance to prove her would-be detective chops when Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) catches the case of a domestic disturbance call that ended in murder. “Since Eddie has been boots-on-the-ground with the dispute,” exec producer Kevin Wade says, “they go down the rabbit hole together.” Also, a partnership falters when Erin (Bridget Moynahan) tells Anthony (Steven Schirripa) she suspects his promotion is a political move by her rival, Da Crawford (Roslyn Ruff). And Frank (Tom Selleck), learning that Det. Angela Reddick (Ilfenesh Hadera) has been shot on duty, regrets having her transferred from One Police Plaza. Later: Tension rises between Jamie (Estes) and Eddie, Jamie gets busted driving while drugged, Erin has a surprising stalker, and Danny, Jamie and Joe Hill (Will Hochman) undertake a rescue operation together.

Say it ain’t so! Seems like New York City police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) is considering retirement—again. According to Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade, Season 12’s opening episodes “frame Frank as a guy who’s seen it all, done it all and [questions] does he really want to anymore.” In the real world, Wade says, “it was very clear this year that if you were a cop in New York, it must be incredibly frustrating, because there is rampant street crime. For all the Reagans, [what] they signed up for—to protect and serve the public and carry out the law—feels out of reach.” It doesn’t help Frank’s mood that Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh) needs the city to appear safe to boost tourism back to pre-pandemic levels. “He’s kind of like the mayor in Jaws,” Wade jokes about the movie character who ignored the...

How they did decide to play the return of the Tom Selleck-led CBS drama with tonight’s “Triumph Over Trauma” episode was on a multiple of levels. Addressing issues of police brutality, the scaring pandemic and that family Sunday dinner, Wade and...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods Season 9 finale.
“It’s a wonderful experience to have a long run at a character where you’re allowed to do a character-driven show, and I think that’s why we’re all so hooked into it,” says Tom Selleck on why he thinks that Blue Bloods is so successful and why there’s a lot more to come for the CBS drama.
With the long awaited wedding of youngest Reagan son Jamie (Will Estes) and his patrol partner, Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray ) culminating tonight’s Season 9 “Something Blue” finale, one of the most consistently watched shows on television shifted both the dynamic and the focus without missing a beat.
Like every good season finale, tonight’s Blue Bloods ended with a wedding, but it was unsteady walk down the aisle, literally and figuratively at times in the Kevin Wade executive produced show.
