Knights of Badassdom (2013)
Written by: Kevin Dreyfuss, Matt Wall
Directed by: Joe Lynch
Cast: Ryan Kwanten (Joe), Steve Zahn (Eric), Peter Dinklage (Hung), Margarita Levieva (Beth), Summer Glau (Gwen), Joshua Malina (Travis), Michael Gladis (King Diamond), W. Earl Brown (Randy), Brian Posehn (Gilberto), Douglas Tait (Abominog)
I’m pretty much going to watch any film called “Knights of Badassdom”. I just am, and probably if you are reading this, you would too. I’m absolutely astounded at how the social stereotypes are melding together little by little, and this film is definitely a testament to that. Remember being the weird kid and only having a handful of equally weird, but loyal friends. That definitely was me, and I couldn’t see it then, but I pretty much had it made. Being weird now is a little more tolerated that it used to be, but...

Larping (or Live Action Role Playing) is subcultural phenomenon that is continuing to gain notoriety. For some it is a way of life, while for others they are not sure what language the word Larping originates from. Larping has had some cinematic spotlight in the past including the documentary Darkon and probably most infamously in the Paul Rudd & Seann William Scott comedy Role Models. However, director Joe Lynch takes his film Knights of Badassdom in an entirely different direction.
Knights of Badassdom asks the question of what happens when you take real life pretend fantasy and add true demonic forces. Based on the premise and cast the potential is rich with uniqueness. This could easily be in the same vein as films like Evil Dead, Cabin in the Woods,...

It takes a lot of skill, creativity, and good humor to combine geek culture, broad humor, low-budget action scenes, and a big splash of horror mayhem -- and have your movie turn out to be a success. Doubly so when your movie has been sitting on a shelf for a year after suffering through some ugly and well-documented post-production trauma. But given the tone, the trouble, and the multi-genre-style weirdness behind the clunky but energetic Knights of Badassdom, it's pretty amazing that the final product is actually halfway entertaining.
Much of the praise goes to an eclectic ensemble that seems to know how to strike the right tone between poking fun at the "Live Action Role Playing" community and just being mean-spirited. Ryan Kwanten is an affable wannabe rock star who (against his will) joins his pals Eric (Steve Zahn) and Hung (Peter Dinklage) for a long weekend of huge...

It may not be director Joe Lynch’s original cut, but for those who have been looking forward to the release of Knights of Badassdom, the wait is almost over. If you live in the Us, that is.
eOne acquired North American distribution rights last year, and the studio is releasing the film into Us cinemas later this month, and you can request a screening in your local town over on Tugg.
With just days to go before the film begins its limited release stateside, eOne has debuted a new poster for the film, along with releasing a new clip over on Collider.

The marketing team working on Entertainment One’s upcoming fantasy comedy Knights of Badassdom have a truly unenviable job to do. Barring the atrocious amount of delays that the film has faced, which have put it more than two years away from its first trailers, Knights of Badassdom‘s nerd-bait story heavily features LARPing (live-action role-playing), which might sound like an appealing concept for a feature-length comedy to a grand total of five people.
And so, the first official poster for the film, which you can check out below, focuses more on the film’s star-studded cast than its unconventional storyline. Unfortunately, it also features eye-gouging misuse of Photoshop, cheap-looking fire effects and a completely cringe-worthy tagline. If you feel like lamenting the declining quality of movie posters, take a look below:

Just before Christmas last year, a new teaser debuted promising the release of the fantasy comedy Knights of Badassdom. The long delay of the film will likely only be a benefit since Peter Dinklage has a much high profile now thanks to "Game of Thrones." But what's not helping is this disaster of a poster trying to hype people up for the film hitting limited theaters on January 21st and VOD next month. It's symmetrical, which is fine, but the rest of the shoddy Photoshop job with characters cropped and pasted onto fire is lazy, fitting right in with that video about the deteriorating quality of movie posters we just tossed up. Look now! Here's the first poster for Joe Lynch's Knights of Badassdom from IGN: Knights of Badassdom directed by up-and-coming American indie filmmaker Joe Lynch (@TheJoeLynch on Twitter), who previously has only directed Wrong Turn 2: Dead End.

In case it isn’t obvious, I’m a pretty big fan of the horror genre, and so I wanted to spotlight some of my most anticipated horror films of 2014. Between the big studio releases and the crop of independent features from some of our favourite directors, 2014 looks to be a great year.
Note: I am not including such movies as Big Bad Wolves or Cheap Thrills, or any other film I had the pleasure of watching at a film festival in 2013. A detailed, time lined and fed up open letter has attempted to answer such a question. Badassdom.com is an anonymously-created site from a stakeholder, who alleges Wade Bradley, CEO of IndieVest and now Media Society has effectively taken Knights Of Badassdom “hostage.” Following its Comic Con preview in July 2011, it seems Bradley forcibly removed Mark Burton (president) and Matt Wall (writer) from their positions in the production company and has been on a roll of re-editing and financially draining resources since. The result is accusing Bradley’s new Media Society of ignoring the creatives and investors of Knights Of Badassdom, seeking additional funds, as well as planning to hold a private sales screening of a drastically recut 70-minute version of the film tomorrow, March 5th.

Also starring Ryan Kwanten and Steve Zahn, Knights of Badassdom was written by Kevin Dreyfuss and Matt Wall and directed by Joe Lynch. Knights of Badassdom follows a group of live action role- players (LARPers) who accidentally summon a succubus demon from the underworld. The film has been making promotional rounds for over two years, including two appearances at San Diego Comic Con, but has yet to garner studio distribution or establish a release date.

The first trailer for LARPing horror/comedy Knights of Badassdom has finally premiered after much anticipation from the fanboy community.
I can see why people are excited about this film. It's got a strong cast in Steve Zahn, True Blood's Ryan Kwanten and Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage. It also fills its sexy-geek-girl quota nicely with the inclusion of Summer Glau. But a movie about live-action role players who wind-up dealing with the fantasy in reality just doesn't feel original enough to get excited about for me. It just feels obvious and it's certainly been done before. I'm also getting flashbacks to Your Highness -- hardly a watershed of comic fantasy.
Word from the film's Comic Con panel is that the film is much more violent and foul-mouthed than perhaps this trailer lets on. That in itself does not equal a good film, so it's really going to...

The horror comedy Knights of Badassdom has a new trailer, which was recently released at the San Diego Comic Con. The film stars Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage, and Summer Glau, in a film set in the Larp universe. Of course, Larp stands for Live Action Role Playing and the film looks like a page out of medieval times.
In the clip, a Larp showdown turns dangerous when Eric (Zahn) releases a succubus during his make believe spellcasting. Then friends die and Eric must make right that which is truly evil and wrong. Have a look at the clip inside, with Knights of Badassdom likely to release later in 2011.

"In this comedic fantasy adventure, Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is a heavy metal rocker who's just gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Beth (Margarita Levieva). His concerned roommates (Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage) kidnap...

"You have the ordinary guy thrown into an absolutely extraordinary situation and then an even more extraordinary situation comes into play when monsters have to be dealt with. The fake heroes are forced to become real heroes," says director Joe Lynch, sitting at a table littered with harmless, soft medieval weaponry and a nefarious, meticulously crafted, prop spell book. These are all items from his latest film Knights of Badassdom and he has met Shock, along with some other journalists, in Hollywood to offer us a preview of what's to come. The film, written by Matt Wall and Kevin Dreyfuss, concerns a recently dumped 30-something named Joe ( True Blood 's Ryan Kwanten) who tags along with his pal for a weekend of LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) to get his mind off...

Way back at Frightfest 2009 news broke that Joe Lynch was going to be working on a new film, incredibly entitled Knights of Badassdom.
It was John Landis who ‘announced’ it on stage and explained how the script had originally been brought to him but deciding it wasn’t right for him, he recommended Lynch.
Lynch actually described the tone of Knights of Badassdom as “very much, An American Werewolf in London”.
A year has passed since then and this summer Lynch shot the film in Spokane and is currently immersed in editing it.
Although there have been no posters or trailers yet (the kind of things that normally get people excited) anticipation is beginning to build around this film and potentially rightly so as this really could be great and here are five reasons why.

While in town promoting his hit comedy "Community", actor Danny Pudi offered a little bit of insight in terms of what to expect from Joe Lynch's upcoming The Knights of Badassdom.
"It starts off really fun and comedic, but things get very serious. It has a Lord of the Rings-ish, epic feel. [My character named Lando is] "a bit of a weasel. Everyone else will be fighting, confronting people, but Lando will be hiding." Pudi went on to talk about Spectral Motion's physical creature F/X. "It's very real, very gross, very scary. It's so cool looking."
In addition to Pudi The Knights of Badassdom stars Summer Glau, Peter Dinklage, Ryan Kwanten, and Steve Zahn. The flick follows the exploits of a group of LARPers (Live Action Role Players) who accidentally release a big badass demon.

I'm reeeeeally looking forward to the Joe Lynch film "The Knights Of Badassdom," written by Matt Wall and Kevin Dreyfuss. I bring it up because there's a similarity to the basic concept of that film and the next film that Dustin Hucks is reviewing for us from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. See if you agree. The Joe Lynch film deals with a group of role-players who are on a weekend excursion when one of them accidentally calls up a real demon, forcing them to have to live the roles that they've all been playing, and either kill or be killed. ...

Peter Dinklage is reportedly in talks to take a role in Joe Lynch's horror/comedy/adventure The Knights of Badassdom. The film was produced and co-written (with Kevin Dreyfuss) by Matt Wall, producer of Dinklage's upcoming St. John of Las Vegas so there's clearly a relationship there and I can imagine anybody lucky enough to get Dinklage in one of their films would try and get him back over and over again. When I first reported on the film, from the thick of last year's Frightfest, here's how I described the set-up: ...a film about LARPers who accidentally cast a real spell and bring a real demon into our world. That's been expanded upon by the full casting synopsis, which you can read after the break. So, from Bloody Disgusting, who broke the Dinklage news, comes a slightly more detailed description of the film's basic plotline, apparently being used...

At this past weekend's Frightfest UK, both John Landis and Joe Lynch were in attendance, where they jokingly duke it out with words. After a little fun, they broke the news that Lynch, who directed the very popular Wrong Turn 2, will be getting back behind the camera for The Knights Of Baddassdom, which is described by Lynch as "heavy metal horror," adding that the "tone of film very much 'American Werewolf in London." Shooting begins this October. Bloody Disgusting learned that the script was penned by Matt Wall and Kevin Dreyfuss. You can watch the video below, it happens around the 2:20 mark.
