With the huge popularity of Game of Thrones and Spartacus on HBO and Starz respectively, it would appear that sword and sandals genre is poised to make a comeback on the small screen. Now a couple of other shows are trying to jump on the bandwagon by tapping into similarly epic and pseudo-historical material. According to THR, a new series based on the Scottish hero William Wallace is in the works courtesy of Stv Productions. Tentatively titled Wallace, it will not be directly connected to the movie Braveheart nor will it use the Braveheart name, but it is based on an idea by Seoras Wallace, who served as an adviser on the film. Stv Productions, Digital Rights Group, Nine/8 Entertainment and Creative Media are all teaming to develop "Wallace", a historical dramatic television series based on the life of Scottish legend William Wallace reports The Live Feed.
Said to be akin to recent cable series hits like Starz's "Spartacus" and HBO's "Game of Thrones", the project focuses on Wallace's years spent attempting to unify Scotland, his loves and losses as well as his legendary battles with King Edward the Longshank and rival Robert the Bruce.

Sword-flinging series Spartacus and Game Of Thrones have been doing rather well for their respective cable channels both in the Us and around the world. Across the gulf of television, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded their ratings and press coverage with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against them.
