Another day, another time travel series announced. The trend of timey-wimey TV doesn’t seem to be getting erased from existence any time soon. Will & Grace alum Eric McCormack will star in a new sci-fi series called Travelers on Netflix, the streaming service announced on Tuesday. Netflix is making the project in partnership with Canadian broadcaster Showcase. Travelers (not to be confused with the excellent and short-lived 2007 thriller series Traveler, if any of y’all remember that) comes from Stargate SG-1 creator Brad Wright, and among the cast is Stargate alum Patrick Gilmore. Here’s the full premise — Quantum Leap but with more social media and more FBI: Hundreds of years from now, the last surviving humans discover the means of sending consciousness back through time, directly into people in the 21st century. These "travelers" assume the lives of seemingly random people, while secretly working as teams to perform missions...

ICM Imploding! Chris Silbermann & Jeff Berg Battle For Control: Rizvi Sits On Sidelines; How Long Will Warring Last? Breaking … ICM president Chris Silbermann and ICM Chief Business Development Officer & General Counsel Rick Levy took the red-eye from La last night and arrived in New York this morning to confront the agency’s investor Suhail Rizvi and demand a management buyout as soon as possible. The pair’s goal is to eliminate the tenpercentery of majority shareholder Rizvi Traverse Management. This follows a 13-day-old demand by Silbermann and Levy to Rizvi to allow the management buyout. At that time, Rizvi said he would make a decision by Christmas. But that was not soon enough for Silbermann and Levy, who today tried to force Rizvi to make his decision sooner. Rizvi told the pair that he would have an answer for them Friday. Also Friday, Silbermann and Levy have demanded an ICM...

Stargate Universe is a bizarrely controversial show, and if you need proof, just take a look at my initial review of the show. Somewhere in the realm of “mildly positive, but hopeful,” the review doesn’t exactly oversell the show, but there are few comments that aren’t from “Stargate Purisits” taking shots at the changes in format and tone. Not that there aren’t plenty of reasons to avoid the show without Stargate baggage, but Sci-Fi is a genre of fans who throw themselves into things, and are often rather easy to annoy.
While some of my initial concerns were dealt with as the show continued, there are many ways in which this incarnation of Stargate still hasn’t, in my estimation, gotten out of its own way. I am the wrong guy to try to sell cheap, simplistic melodrama to, especially when it is slapped into a show...

Okay, so we’re a bit behind. Tuesday saw the release of the complete first season of Stargate Universe; while that set wasn’t available for us to review, Fox graciously provided me with a copy of 1.0, the first-half set released on February 9. If you’re like me and haven’t started on this third series in the franchise yet, allow me to shed a little light on at least half of the situation.
The Show
Stargate has taken Star Trek‘s place as the mainstream science fiction franchise on television. First there was Sg-1 for a decade, then five years of Atlantis, and now we have Universe. It’s the “dark and brooding” member of the family, which either makes it cool or very uncool, depending on who you talk to.
The show centers around a multinational exploration team who find themselves stuck on an Ancient ship called the Destiny,...

Chicago – Some franchises are best left undiscovered. “Stargate” originally began as a terrible 1994 film from B-movie maestro Roland Emmerich. It took a potentially interesting premise, and used it as an excuse for a lot of uninspired sci-fi warfare. The film, bad as it was, inexplicably spawned two long-running TV shows: “Stargate Sg-1” and “Stargate: Atlantis.”
Fearing that their franchise had become outdated, producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper set their sights on creating a dark, edgy show more apt to connect with modern audiences. Thus, we have “Sg-u Stargate Universe” or as I like to call it, “Stargate: The J.J. Abrams Rip-Off.” It does a great job of being like everything else on television, without ever developing a compelling vision of its own. The show is sure to disappoint longtime “Stargate” fans, while failing to interest viewers who have no idea what “dialing the ninth Chevron” means.

Sgu Stargate Universe, Syfy's controversial new entry in the Stargate franchise, was released last week on Blu-ray. Can the HD format bring to life a show that has so far failed to convince many fans of Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate Atlantis — including yours truly — that it is a worthy successor?
Regular readers of CinemaSpy.com will know that I keenly awaited the debut of Stargate Universe. Yet, after giving the premiere episode, 'Air', a 3.5 star rating, I progressively lost interest. After watching 'Life' (the ninth episode of the 10 that have aired so far) I decided I'd seen enough. Judging by the comments that accompanied this critique, I wasn't alone. If it hadn't been for a request from a media contact, I might not have bothered to watch the half-season finale, 'Justice'. Although I thought that episode was an improvement over 'Life', it's plot further convinced me that the talented creators...
